Can not delete character I just transfered

I just transferred a character that I have had for years to another shard with some items I wanted on my home shard. Since this is an extra character I don't use, I was going to delete it after the transfer. When I attempt to delete it, I get the message that it can't be deleted because it is not 7 days old. Does transferring actually create a new character that I will now have to wait a week to delete, or is there some other problem I'm experiencing?

its a bug, and a very annoying one. some you can delete, some you cant. i just deleted a character that was a few months old today and i transferred him yesterday. but other times i cant delete characters that are well over 1 week old after a fresh transfer.

Are you eventually able to delete those characters your talking about that are over a week old, or do you have to do something else to get rid of them?

yes, when they bug you just have to wait a week to delete them

I have had it take a week as well....I just assumed that was a rule

One week to delete rule on production shards since I've been playing UO, late 2002.

On test shards you can delete instantly, probably what you were thinking.

This rule is supposed to be on "newly created" chars only. But as others have stated, I too have found I could not delete an older char after a transfer until after the 7 day timer.

Oh okay so not only are our items newly created, given fresh id numbers, during a transfer, so are our characters.

No, most times as long as the char is 7 days or older, even after a transfer it can be deleted. Sometimes a glitch just happens and we can't delete. Kind of like the house placement bug people run into sometimes on the 7 day timer.

I have had the same thing happen. Sometimes you can delete right after Xfer, sometimes it may take a couple of hours or a day but I have never had to wait the full 7 days. Most I ever waited was after all the shard servers that were effected were restarted.

Update: I was able to delete the character after 4 hours from the time I arrived on my home shard. Every attempt prior to that gave me the 7 day waiting message. Thanks for all of the informative posts.
