New Loot System

So being freshly returned and the new pad pretty much decorated for now, I set out to do some hunting.

erm.........aww nuts......?????? :wall:

I just don't get the new system, some items I see with Artifact on them are worse than some I see with lesser magic item??
Can anyone point me in the right direction for a breakdown on this new system, I really don't know where it would be in forums. I thought possibly in Crafting but that seems to talk about a different system again?

It's rather confusing and also slightly un-nerving to think I could be throwing away millions in gold as I don't know what's a good piece or loot or a bad one.

I don't like the new system either, then again I didn't and largely still don't like the system that came about with Age of Shadows. It's turned too much of UO into Ultima: The Quest for Loot and sucked a lot of the fun out of the game. Sure I'm willing to bet some folks will say that the drive for better gear creates a desire to engage in the multitudes of content within the game, but I'd have to counter with, why can't you play the game just to have fun, why do you need a reason?

Simplest way to explain it is we have all the properties from reforging on loot now.

Antique wears out about 10 times faster than normal loot but is totally usable (all the 10 mod most sought after pvp jewels are antique)

For armor, stuff thats worth keeping to sell is generally way over 500 imbue weight with usable mods.

Most the highest end loot comes off Exodus and Scalis, Stygian Dragon also has a very high loot table.
"Medium" loot usually doesnt sell for much, but is very nice to put into suits and very usable
Example of "medium" loot:

8mana
3mr
8lmc
all (or most) resists very high.
these sell for around 500k

basically, its not worth looting "medium" level loot or lower unless your comfortable selling it for very low cost or using it yourself.

Jewels are another story. Jewels with open imbue slots can be highly sought after if they have overcaps you cant imbue. like swing speed, 20hci, 20dci, over 25 damage increase, over 12 spell damage increase. Again, they dont sell for a ton like they did before but thats what you look for on lower end mobs. Stamina is also sought after. cap on jewels is 5, 4 is fairly common.

And finally, tho theres really only 3 bosses in the game that consistantly give legendary armor, anything has a chance to drop it. So time-wise, its probably not worth checking mongbats or even deamons for legendaries, but they do have a very slim chance to spawn anywhere. but the chances of one actually spawning, then being good are next to nothing. This more applies to most peerless and champ spawn bosses. Its not packed full of legendaries, but worth checking the loot for them.

if youd like to get an idea of whats out there, id use vendor search on atlantic and type in a mod or two to narrow down the selection. check whats listed for the most, whats listed for the least, itll at least help you get an idea.

Worse thing from Age of Shadows are the pain of the 5 kind of resist. If I see a piece of armor with nice mods, I should not have to care if it mess up my 5x70 resist. Remove this pain or changes basis resist on crafted and loot from 15% to 30%, that would make new loot much more useful and make life easier for crafters.

On Siege, we could need better spawn of old artifacts like doom artifacts and they may need a little upgrade, 1-2 of the most imbued mods would be nice.

With the old stuff with out all the mods on them people learning to imbue could unravel them and get gains. Now with the new stuff they cant unravel unless we dig through our stuff and find old stuff. Maybe they could (though I doubt it)fix the stuff so it could be half and half. Lots of mods and a few without being magical or anything like that.

SOSs are great for unraveling and you get lots of clean up points besides relaxing while fishing.

I just want to stop to point out again how bizarre and lame it is that we get "lesser magic item" and "major artifact" as yet another line of text, rather than having the loot color coded like Diablo and every other loot hunting game.

Ok didn't think it was possible but I think I may actually be more confused now than before.........Reforging?
So the basic jist i'm getting is that unless it has "artefact" in the description then its junk. ?

"artifact" refers to the total property weight - if the combo doesn't work, an artifact could be junk - I pay less attention to the labels and more attention to the properties - are they desirable or useful, as @Smoot explained

its just a classification, the global loot goes from "minor magic item" up to "legendary artifact" , as Yadd said, sometimes a legendary artifact can be junk tho because mods just are a mish-mass, while an item with less intensity can actually be more useful because good complementary mods.

I liked when I stocked my vendors with Iron, Dull Copper, Shadow, Copper, Bronze, Gold, Agapite, Verite and Valorite sets of Ring mail, Chain mail and Plate Armour. no Mods...No Freaking MODS and people used skill to play and fight each other. *Misses those days*

Not Necessarily. I find nice pieces with mods and resists on them that are classified as minor magic items and just imbue them. I just started back as well and I quit right when reforging was coming out. It was confusing to me as well. Best I can tell you is to read about it on UOGUIDE.COM (http://www.uoguide.com/Runic_Re-Forging) and go to test center and play around with it. This will give you a good idea on what to do and what it all means. Honestly after playing around with it I will most likely never mess around with reforging as it is too random for my taste and you can only reforge normal leather/iron/wood items, then you need to enhance/imbue for the rest of what you need. It is more of a pain than anything. If you could choose the mods that went on it and intensity that would be one thing but since it is random what gets put on there and the intensity, to me, it is rather worthless, eexcept for the fact some mods can be found on armor that would not normally be there.
