So, it's been about three years since I played. It wasn't a statement or anything; one month I was an 11+ year vet, the next...I wasn't. Three or so months later, I'd lost most of those 11 years to idocs that were seemingly beyond my control. My chars are pretty bare, my accounts, houses, just a memory. A fond one.

I loved UO. My friends, and even my family, played UO for more than a decade. And back at the beginning of 2012 I, along with the rest of the community, became a UO orphan.

I still love UO, and have fond memories, both ingame and irl, that are UO related, that are UO bred and borne. And, because I still the love the game, and, because I can be pretty tenacious, patient, and more, I thought I'd give UO another go. You know, login to the old account/s, give it all another whirl. And so, I did.

Wait, what? No, I didn't. I TRIED. Big difference, that. EA account, master account, UO account, Mythic account, EAMythic....it's all pretty much a big blur because none of it makes sense. It didn't in 2012, and it surely doesn't now. I've read some of the forums here, and thank you to those that posted, but either the advice didn't work for me, or I've not had ample time to read thru all the threads. Another pity. Because I don't know that I have the tenacity. I surprise myself, because I KNOW I am persistent. I have to ask myself, when is persistence justified, and when is it foolhardy?

Here is an email sent to EA, asking for help, it's pretty brief, and self explanatory;

"Hello,
I have several UO accounts, one of which I am now unable to login to. It may be a billing error, as one of my credit cards expired recently. I've tried (many times!) to login to the website and go to the UO billing site, but I am rerouted to Mythic and asked for 'Master account' and 'link account' information. I did attempt to link my accounts but I do not have any codes or keys; my accounts are many years old, as old as 11 years. I just want a fast and easy way to continue to pay my monthly 12.99us for each account, without the hassle of a very confusing and misdirecting 'middleman' website.
Can you *please tell me how to access my billing information so as to pay for one of my accounts? I am unable to link my accounts properly for some reason......I was unable to link the accounts I actually USE to those old accounts in any case; I'm prompted to enter a key, or code.
Make it easy for us to simply login with our account information and pay our monthly fees? I would think that for people who are borderline players (those of us that rarely login), making it nearly impossible to pay our monthly fee would be the last nail in the coffin."

I don't know whether its uproariously funny, unbearably sad, or somewhere in the middle; some things never do change.

Peace, all,
Conny

For the Devs this must surely be one of the most frustrating hurdles in their path, and one over which they have so little control. I would be tearing my hair out if I were at Broadsword reading this regular stream of posts about the obstacle that is the account management system. For every one player that makes it through the labyrinth I am willing to be there are several others who just give it up. /shame

Agreed, very difficult, I imagine.
I'm guessing for those that make it through that labyrinth, it's the good folk that makes it all worth while! It's pretty easy to point a finger, a bit harder to put one's self in other people's shoes (the Devs, for example)...
Good gaming, all! :)

Anyone that's come back to play using a new account, to restart from scratch...having fun? :)
Feel free to pipe in! I could use some fresh thoughts!
*meanwhile, searches for an avatar*

(By the way, that email above was sent back in 2012, just when my accounts lost access/mythic came along (I think that's when Mythic came).)

I'm beyond astonished it remains the sack of **** that it is. There is absolutely no doubt the amount of subscriptions the idiotic system has cost Broadsword/EA is some three/four figure number. Yet, it remains the same. Year after year.

" We'll look into it"

Great job at looking into it, yeah. How's the view?

Hey man, sorry about the frustration you're getting from this.

Here's a link that seem pretty straight forward that may help you set up your accounts.

If you have any questions please let me know.

Good luck man.

There use to be a sticky up top to help people with these problems and it has disappeared to somewhere else I guess. Stuff like those types of threads should remain in an easy to find place.

I *Think* that once the new website is out in September, the new account management system will be as well.

I am one that has never had a problem with using the current system, always get an e-mail when something happens with one of my accounts and have no problems purchasing anything through the Origin store.

The link above (Thank you OREO) IS pretty straight forward. IF you still have issues, UO Now offers a callback service for anything account-related on the stipulation that you e-mail them your problem first.

Mesanna has been VERY helpful in the past with helping players re-gain their old accounts.

Will give it another go, seems I got to the link screen with a new account, and I did see something listed there (but not accounts that I'd like to have the most now), but was still unable to link them in any case. Seems the vet ones may have been given 'master' account status. ? But will try a bit more. Am thinking of coming in anew, though I don't know that it's feasible. Aren't too many folks here atm. Last I played, there were folks to play/hunt with. ]

Speaking of which, happy hunting!

Good idea! Maybe we could ask for that? Sure would be helpful, and would have/could (still) help me, even. Mods?

*chuckles* Yeah....some things never do change. I remember there being issues way back; way way WAAAY back. Some folks might think of it as part of their charm (that they don't change). Sure hope you haven't been personally affected.
Warm Regards, Conny

If you happen to have, or have had a SWTOR account, that email address and password are now (at least in my case) your master account ID. I was about to give up myself, not able to login, but I remembered the SWTOR bit. Logged in at Acct Mgmt site with that products email and password, *poof* like magic, there were my 2 accounts. It may have to do with some other product tied to the *shudder* ORIGIN system. Ymmv, good luck sire. Hope you don't lose your stuff.

^ Yeah when Origin became a thing, every EA master account got turned into an Origin account. So everyone who has an Origin account has created an EA master account without knowing it. And vice versa. Basically I'm pretty sure there is no such thing as " EA master account" anymore, but uo.com likes talking about one because hey why not! Somewhere around mid 00's or something, they made " Mythic Account" a thing. Obviously isn't a thing anymore since Mythic is dead now. Still, you need to have it and link it to EA master account (Which isn't a thing anymore either, there are only Origins accounts now I recon ) because hey why not! However, before doing that, you need to link your actual UO accounts to the now-mythic, mystic Mythic master account. So you have one big obsolete umbrella service nobody but UO uses linking up with another big umbrella service that nobody but UO and DAOC uses. So once you done linking up stuff to Mythic account, you login to Origin (or EA MAster account, if you will!) account you prolly didn't realize you had, then you pick the right UO account from slightly confusing dropdown menu that hopefully is now displaying UO accounts linked to your Mythic master account, and THEN you can activate and subscribe to the right account. Emphasis on the "right" though!

I'd guess the going rate of would-be returning vets going " lol. ok. nevermind. **** this!" is around 100-250 people/line in paragraph above.

It is borderline lovecraftian horror for a vet who was active in, say, mid 00's to try to return and navigate through this cluster ****ed piece of massive, confusing **** of a service. Brand new player creating brand new account is mostly spared though. Good thing UO has steady stream of brand new players, right? lol.

Ahh...well truth be told, my stuff disappeared to IDOCs back in 2012, and it hurt like a sonofagun. Saw some reference to the losses here on stratics, blah. But, I thank you kindly for the sentiment!

Yeah, I think you may see the accounts associated with the email that you used.

You can always create a second mythic account for the other email if it doesn't work.

Otherwise input the account names in to "mythic master account name" and "password".

If it doesn't take it, put the mouse on the little red "I" when it pops up. It will tell you if it's already linked, wrong password etc.. Let me know what it says and we'll go from there.

And if you are thinking about restarting, and want to give Great Lakes a try, I have a free mythic token with your name on it and some gear that you can have to help get acclimated again.

Thanks, OREOGL!

I'm trying to decide if I should just let it go and start from scratch (would miss ethereals hehe), or not. House/s long gone from idoc (ouch, yeah) along with most items (but not all), so if I got a/cs back I'd be fine for gear, only need a bit. Logged into game with new a/c and character to see how it was, and don't you know I met a really great lady who wouldn't let me say no to a leather suit and a check to insure it with. THAT'S why I play UO, and what I remember most about the folks here. The best.

And then there's your very kind offer, I thank you! Think my ping to GL might be too slow, but I'll have a peek!
Happy Hunting!
