How do I close an account(s) without signing their mandatory arbitration agreement?
Stop paying? Are you considering legal action? lol Maybe you can just delete the credit card on those accounts till they go inactive on the next billing cycle? Account management is so messed up I'm
not sure exactly all you can and can't do with it. I have a hard enough time getting them to actually take my money.

Let me be more specific.

My account auto renews on the credit card but I can't stop the auto renew without agreeing to mandatory arbitration that pops up before you can access the account.

If you hit cancel it goes back to log in page.

Pretty much I can't do anything without hitting the agreement which is messed up.

I do not enter mandatory arbitration contracts with anyone.

This is what I would do in that case:

1. Call my bank and tell them I have lost my card.
2. They send me a new card with a different number and thus my UO subscription would cancel when the current billing cycle ends.
3. Update any other services that use my card for payment (PayPal etc.) with the new card number.
4. Problem solved.

What's the problem with ticking the box to agree out of interest? I have never had any real issues. Maybe you could fill me in as I don't even read those things! Then again I don't use my CC to pay for stuff like UO in the first place.

Mandatory arbitration means you cannot take legal action for any reason against a company.

You must go through an arbitrator (mediator) to resolve a conflict. These are generally paid by the company you are seeking judgement against.

Given that they have my information and billing info. should I ever need to resolve an issue legally if they are hacked or sell my info or any other damages I am not going to place a legal decision in the hand of the person they are paying.

This is the same for any company With the mandatory arbitration clause.

I forgot to mention arbitrators aren't required to have any legal training or follow the law.

In fact they don't even have these as I use game time codes to pay for my subscription and these are purchased via PayPal which is not even my PayPal account! The card I used a few years back to run my subscription is long gone.

Also its not as case of "if they are hacked" they HAVE been hacked! Did you see about all the Fifa hacking that had many peoples UO accounts blocked as it is all tied to an EA account.

I just cancelled one of my accounts to see what you were talking about and nothing like that came up for me.

Notice my account is on a recurring payment through a credit card.

I click cancel subscription, then the second box pops up to verify...I click yes and get the *please take our survey* pop-up, which I don't do I just go right back to the subscriptions page and see this:

Nowhere did it pop up any kind of agreement so I have no clue what you are doing.

Apparently you haven't seen it yet.

Before you get to the account list screen - I got this a couple days ago - there was an arbitration terms of agreement you had to agree to before you get to the account management screen. The only thing that might prevent it might be a pop-up blocker. But yes, there's an agreement you have to okay before moving on.

It pops up sometimes when you haven't signed in for some time. Well at least its new T&C's that have to be accepted.

Well then being hacked only reinforces the point. They put this clause in for a reason.

If I lose $10,000 because they are hacked and go to arbitration because of a flaw in their security to hold EA responsible, the arbitrator, who only makes money off the people who pay them so arbitrate a dispute (I.e. EA), could very well tell me to go pound sand. And suddenly I am out 10,000 and can't do anything About it because I agreed to the mandatory arbitration clause.

You can login to Origin.com and remove payment details for UO. I just tried and didn't get that popup about T&C's also.
I did too but didn't check the other managent page.

I will go look now. Thanks for the tips.

The hoighty toighty refusal to sign the agreement needed to cancel your sub.

Only option would be to cancel CC, probably.

Lol, yeah I guess so..

But I think the origin thing worked so we will see what happens. Otherwise next will be to cancel the card.

it could possibly be for only those who pay with gametime codes. For example (and please dont take this for more than its worth, its just a scenerio)

If the Expansion doesnt meet the projected profits required by EA and UO is shut down in the near future those who have paid with game time codes (many players have account paid for years) will have relinquished all rights to the money they have spent, but not been able to use for those future codes. by clicking the agreement it absolves EA of any legal action caused by the thousands of people (enough for a class action suit) who lost money from un-used game time.

thats what i think, and it makes sense, but absolutely doesnt mean that is in fact the total or even partial reasoning behind the new agreement.

Glad I stocked up my account when those cheap 6 month codes were going cheap!

Doesn't like every credit card come with fraud protection, or frog protection, or something like that?
I've actually lost on a contested charge because the person provided a fake purchase I'd and tracking number and the cc company bought into it.

The purchase number they gave was close to 12345
