That's why UO Classic is going away, unfortunately, it just isn't maintainable anymore and can't be fixed.
We are trying to find a suitable replacement, a lighter theme for those who don't like/can't read the darker themes.
So for now you have to use it as-is, it cannot be fixed or changed in any way.

Our admins are doing all the work in Xenforo. I am not computer savvy and looking at computer code makes my head spin, but I do know that xenforo has many themes pre-made that can be adjusted on minor level. UO Classic was actually built from different pieces, WAY back in the day....and then hard-coded in so if you try to change...say....making the sticky threads and regular threads separate, it will break the code elsewhere in the theme.
It's like putting a puzzle together and then gluing it so it doesn't come apart....try to take a few pieces out of the middle and you'll end up wrecking it.
Our admins tried every which way from Sunday to figure it out, but certain parts of the theme are no longer supported by xenforo, some don't even exist anymore and it's just not possible to make it work.
We do know that a lot of our community would prefer a lighter theme and are working hard to get one!

Well that's sad news. To be fair I hadn't even looked at the new theme (I just did a minute ago after reading this). Before I did try each theme but now there only seems to be "UO Classic" or "stratics blue steel". What happened to all the other options?
My opinion is that blue steel look f**king horrible! (no offence) but I not a big fan of dark backgrounds with lighter text.

I'm right there with you. A dark background does a number on my eyes.

Stratics upgraded from XenForo 1.1.3 to XenForo 1.3 in February 2014 and one of the issues they resolved was separating sticky and normal threads. As a developer I can say practically anything can be programmed but it's a matter of cost vs. benefit.

Outside of the UO Classic theme, all them are, or were based on either a style called "Quark" (dark) or "AntiQuark" (light). These hadn't been updated for good bit of time before Ron Bron purchased the site, and when Stratics changed ownership the licenses for them didn't transfer meaning they couldn't be simply updated then either, as we didn't have rights to them. When the decision to update the Dark version happened, thanks to the use of a common plugin framework shared by all of the designers themes we had to remove all the older versions of those two in order to install the newer.
As Larisa mentioned, the UO Classic Theme isn't maintainable long term, our Forum Software, Xenforo is nearing the end of the 1.x releases, with only one more planned, and is working towards it's 2.x series and as part of that the way Styles or Themes are coded is being changed. This means UO Classic would become unusable after that point. Instead of waiting, and not having a solution when it eventually breaks we're trying to be a bit preemptive and are working on a replacement not just for UO Classic but a general purpose Light colored Style from a 3rd party provider that we will be able to update to the new coding base when that happens.
I get that some people are unhappy with the change in how Stratics looks, and that others will be unhappy when the time comes to put UO Classic to rest, but it was something that was heavily discussed. For me, at least, it came down to a choice of being ready for the changes we can't control, or scrambling hoping we can fix things when those changes break something.

I don't have any say on the background, that's up to @Ron Bron. What I can try and do is see about having a message sent to the Designer of the theme and ask if there is a way to disable the animation for the green dot or for him to possibly put a user selectable toggle in an update. If and when we hear back then Ron Bron would get to make the call to either disable it if, we're told how, or the designer agrees to make a toggle wait for an update to be released.So when will this blue background go away? Also can the green dot that pings when someone is online go away... I immediately try to turn and shoot the dot...

it wasn't just a licensing issue or sunsetting of the current forum version - it is knowledge.
not only does a coder need to know css/html... the coder also needs to know php rather well as a lot of the Quark & AntiQuark theme functions were based in that language. without a good understanding of how it all works together, breaking the entire forum could happen. the code could be updated without having license - but the knowledge of the staff is not there and paying another coder would be costly.

How hard can it be to simply make the color changes to match UO Classic.
The format and whatever else changes isn't that big of a deal. Just get the dang colors right as an option.

UO Classic is still an option for those who like it, and it isn't going to disappear overnight or anything, it will stay for a decent amount of time which will allow people to continue using it while we try to acquire a new light background for when it does eventually have to disappear.

Yes that's the goal specifically to help cover the cost of obtaining a licensing for the base Style we have in mind for creating light colored themes for the site.
It may not seem like much, but when you start adding up the overall operation costs for Stratics the Owner is already dropping a considerable sum each month just to keep the site running, we're just asking the community to help pitch in towards additional features they would like to see.
*** Actually "Pitch In" might not be the right wording.
There are operational costs and a budget for what we can and can't do, when the community expresses enough interest in an additional feature on the site, Donation Goals may be set to help get a boost of funding we can earmark towards and use to expedite the inclusion of that feature. Otherwise adding new features will almost always wind up waiting until there is a surplus in revenue from Ads and Subscriptions.

Ermm... mine are cars. AdChoices uses your browsing history to determine what to show you. LOL I got cars at the bottom and Papa Johns at the top. There's this thing called InPrivate browsing homie. LOL
I like the new look, but i must say, i do not like having to wait 30 seconds after i click uhall for everything to "settle" otherwise i end up clicking on the wrong thing, despite what it says on my screen. I suspect its the new ad thingy at the top and also below the stickies.
