Hello everyone! So, I am fairly new to uo, been playing for a whole 6 days so far, and I have a friend that plays to answer some of my questions, but for the rest I will need the help of the people of the forums!

1: So I bought the stygian abyss pack, and I plan on buying the high seas pack soon, are there any other packs I will need to buy (other than the upcoming expansion)?

2: Can someone tell me roughly where I should go to farm stuff as a noobie? New Haven mine doesnt seem to drop a lot (fair enough) , and if i go to shame level 2 the mud elementals kill/dispel my demon/ev's, so shame level 1? or is there somewhere other than tram/fel I can go as a noob?

3: I used an old template for my tmap/ fisher, it said that you lock cartography at 70, do you need higher than 70 to read any maps?

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help out :)

Noob answers! :)

There are two other packs, not necessary but they do contain some nice items. Kings Collection and Gothic Theme Pack.

http://uo2.stratics.com/items/holiday-special-items/the-kings-collection/

The Gothic Theme pack gives new housing tools and new craftable items as well.

2. What are your skills? If you are a true noob, you've done the new player quests in New Haven to get your skills to at least 50. As a noob myself :) I like to kill the things in New Haven until I'm around 60 skill, then go to the Wind Caves to kill Solens. They give a fair amount of gold and gems for a new player and you can collect zoogi fungus and do the bag of sending/Power quest later on!

3. You do need to GM cartography, at 70 skill you can only decode lvl 4 I think? and we now have up to lvl 7 with High Seas.

Lvl 1 maps - plainly - skill required/ Carto 27, Lockpicking 52
Lvl 2 maps - Expertly - skill required/ Carto 71, Lockpicking 72
Lvl 3 maps - Adeptly - skill required/ Carto 81, Lockpicking 84
Lvl 4 maps - Cleverly - skill required/ Carto 91, Lockpicking 92
Lvl 5, 6 and 7 all require GM in both Carto and Lockpicking.

Hope that helps a little!

There is also the rustic pack, but they aren't needed.
The rustic pack gives you a raised garden bed that can be used to grow plants and gather seeds, with a chance of getting seeds of renewal.

About hunting, Shame is an awful hunting grounds now. Everything there is too strong, has too much HP and the loot is horrid. They destroyed Shame after making the loot changes global.
Hit the Troglodits caves near Trinsic instead. Faster to kill, faster spawn, better loot, more gold. And the EVs can handle them.
Or also consider finding the guardians room in Doom. They spawn in groups, so you and two EVs mean 6 of them, 6 level 1 to 3 map, 700 gold per and decent loot. And the EVs can also handle them without any trouble.

Well, I think I looked at a template for an older version lol. This is what I was going to do, but I think it should work if i remove resist spells and put cartography to 100:
cartography:70
resist spells:30
lockpicking:100
musicianship:100
provocation:120
magery:100
fishing:100
meditation:50
eval int:50

so thats the template I was going to use, maybe put some more points into fishing if I can with armour, and if i drop resist and put it into cartography, is that a viable build? If anything, I would prefer to keep fishing, if I have to change any skills out.

Thanks again for the help Larisa and Bealank :)
P.s. i sort of skipped new haven quests a little and bought a mythic token for this, so I dont know if i qualify for your definition of a 'true' noob or not, lol, my mate told me it was going to take aaaaaages to level provocation and lockpicking :)

Glad to have you in game!

1) If you're that new, I'd hold off on buying more expansions until you build up your characters a bit more.

2) If you get in with a group, you can go and start running some peerless bosses. Shame Level 1 and entrance area of Dungeon Wrong are always good for newer folks.

3) Maybe you could find some help for your Tmap/fisher here: http://stratics.com/community/forums/uo-fishing-and-treasure-hunting.423/

If you are on Atlantic and are looking for a guild to play with that helps newer players train up and get off on the right foot, DRED will gladly help you out with any questions, get you geared up and offer assistance on hunts. Feel free to send me a PM or msg on ICQ if interested. We have a TeamSpeak channel and run PVM hunts a few nights a week, although there is typically always a few folks on doing one thing or another. Hope this helps and best of luck! :)

COME TO ORIGIN!!!! I am actually re-working my T-hunter and would love to have another T-Hunter/fisher to hang with. We have a tight knit group and we do maps and pirates!!!! lol it's so fun.

Anyway...yes provo and lockpicking are a PAIN to raise...I'm still only at 95.8 but can open everything, though I break a few lockpicks :)

Other then that you're template looks fine to me :)

I'd suggest getting yourself a good couple of soulstones to take and put your fishing on and swap that out with Eval. or Med or something when you need it. And if you are going to only have 30 resist I wouldn't really bother. Just my advice. I'd put the rest into Cartography.

I also don't recommend cartography and fishing on the same character. If you're going to tackle high-level T map spawns, you need more power to kill the spawn, so you want to clear out that fishing slot

Addendum on locks skill required
This guide is not right on locks (I think it's from stratics). You can open chests with much less locks skill than this chart indicates
The chart at UOGuide is accurate
http://www.uoguide.com/Treasure_Maps
I just made my third t hunter and tested it - unlocked L2 chest on first try at 56 locks, L3 chest on first try at 65.6 locks, L4 chest on third try with one gas escape at 75.3 locks, level 6 chest on second try at 80.4 locks, although a skeleton key may or may not have made a difference there
GM locks is nice for fewer misses, in theory, although even that is luck of the roll; I've missed three or four times in a row with GM locks and a skeleton key on an L6 chest

ok, so if i take what malaste and yadd are saying, if i soulstone fishing, then i can raise med and eval to 100 and swap one out for fishing when i go fishing, i assume eval is the one i will swap, so i can put out an ev more often? or should i swap it with med and keep eval on, so, i suppose that means more burst?

You can load quite a bit of lower mana cost and Mana regen onto a suit.... So I don't much worry about mana... If you plan to just toss an EV and let that do most the work you aren't going to need a whole bunch of mana... especially if you are relying on Provoking. When you get into trouble is when there is nothing left to provoke things on... But while fishing the worst things you are going to come upon would be a Deep Sea Serpent and those you can generally kill with 2 or 3 Lightning Strikes. So while out fishing your not really going to need a huge mana pool anyway and will probably do just fine having good MR and LMC on your suit. I hope that makes sense.

But yeah you will need a lot more mana when your doing T-Map spawns as then you'll be needing to cast EV's and such which in the higher level chests many of the mobs will dispell frequently. So having a LOT of mana for that will be necessary.

In the old days, mages/bards used Earth elementals to fight dispel monsters. They get dispelled less often. They fight a little slower though and you have to heal them sometimes.

If I were starting from scratch on a new shard -

-I'd farm ants for zoogi and do solen quest for Powder of translocation. It sells well on any shard. You can change it up and do the Ambitious Queen quest to get bags of sending. Ants don't have good loot, but the powder and bags will sell. Ants can be farmed with moderately skilled characters. (less than GM skills)

-For higher end loot consider training a mystic. It's cheaper than making an archer and takes waaay less time than making a tamer. Rising colossus is a very strong summons that does a lot of damage. I see guys farming Miasma with rising colossus to get level 6 TMaps all the time. You already have a treasure hunter in the works. You can get some nice items in a level 6 chest. I have a t-hunter with mysticism. I can solo level 6 maps. It takes a while sometimes, but it can be done. Better/faster if you have a partner along to help fight the spawn.

If you go the Mystic t-hunter way, add spellweaving to him, at least GM level. A level 3+ circle will help you go through the level 6 chest spawn much faster, as you can use word of death to help you RC finish off high HP monsters when they are low on HP.
I solo level 1 to 7 maps with my myst/weaver/t-hunter. Level 6 and 7 Fel maps can get a bit annoying when several greater dragons/ancient wyrms/frost wyrms spawn, but they are still doable to do solo in less than an hour with such template.

Well, we all have our ways :) I solo L7 spawn in about 15 mins with a disco mystic mage (of course sorting through the chest might take longer if you want to take your time over it) @virtualhabitat . Disco weakens them from the start, so you don't have to go to the bother of finding a circle for a SW focus. Mysticism also has that wonderful healing stone for keeping yourself alive with a keystroke and cleansing winds for getting rid of curses and poisons.
You will need a couple soulstones to swap carto for locks once you've decoded a handful of maps (you only need carto for that initial decode).
And you will need to go up to 120 in mysticism, focus, music and discord to make it effective. The differences between GM and 120 are immense. But if you can afford the power scrolls, jewelry is our friend here.
This is all depends on if you like to t hunt solo or with a group. Solo, you can only rely on magery and EVs up through level 5. You can EV some L6 spawns to death in Malas and Ter Mur, but in fel and tram, the greater dragons will just dispel your EVs. And EVs have no chance against L7 frost dragons.
I used to solo L6s with a greater dragon, found it was too much trouble keeping it healed on L7s. Switched to the mystic disco mage - so much easier.
Oh, but I also changed the thunter to a gargoyle (yeah, ugly but effective), because you want to be able to fly in and out when casting those RCs. And I will say it would be difficult making your first character a gargoyle without support from others or your own crafters or some gold, because it's really hard to find gargoyle armor with both high resists and high LRC. Seems like all the new loot is aimed at human and elf mages but not gargoyle mages. So I already had an imbuer when I went gargoyle.

It should usually go pretty fast, yes. Most level 6 maps I do pretty quickly. I don't even bother with getting a circle for ter mur and malas level 6 and 7 maps. Ish and Tokuno ones just get trashed for points because I ain't got time for that.
But then there are times when you finish digging that level 7 fel map and two greaters, three ancient wyrms and 2 frost wyrms spawn and you know you're in for a treat that will take a while to take care of. :p

Obviously, if you have access to resources and an imbuer you can make a suit/jewelry set to make certain templates work very well @Yadd of Legends. On Oceania shard, buying some imbuing resources and power scrolls just isn't an option when they aren't for sale at any price. Currently there are 5 120 scrolls for sale on Oceania: 2 mace, 1 wrestle, 1 ninja, and 1 tailor. There is no crystalline blackrock for sale -none. So skill jewelry is not an option at the moment. Also, I suspect it will be difficult to get a full spellweaving book, much less a full circle.

Keeping it simple will get you where you want to go.

Wow, thanks for all the help everyone :) Yeah, those high level maps must be pretty tough, my friend and I tried to take down a greater dragon with evs last night... lets just say that was a fun 20 mins or so... at this point I can't imagine fighting 2 of those plus a heap of other stuff lol. I think I will do most maps with my friend, and i will have to take a look at mysticism too :)
