I know I was pretty upset last night to attend the event on Napa and not get a drop even though I got looting rights on the boss corpse. I spent the whole fight healing people and thier pets only to get no drop. So much for an everyone drop.
I agree. But for this specific thread I though everbody should have something to remember the nights spent on the global event arc (rather than some random EM event).I truly miss the days when people attended events for the lore and not items.
No offense meant here, but that is a lousy solution to a poorly implemented arc. Not everyone has shard shields or developed characters across all shards.Good news, you can go to any of the Global Arc events and get the same crystal. So if you missed in on one shard, attend the next one on a different shard.
No offense taken. How can you say the arc is poorly implemented without making assumptions as to the reason for it?No offense meant here, but that is a lousy solution to a poorly implemented arc. Not everyone has shard shields or developed characters across all shards.
So far I can only comment on the two aspects I can see, which IMO would not have been how I would have done it.No offense taken. How can you say the arc is poorly implemented without making assumptions as to the reason for it?
So far I can only comment on the two aspects I can see, which IMO would not have been how I would have done it.
1. The content (so far) has extremely limited availability unless you assume that everyone has characters across multiple shards. For someone who plays a single shard, having a 1 hour window specified by an EM in which to participate in the content is very limiting. If you are not available for that hour, you're basically SOL. It would have been much better (IMO) to have a small quest or something that could be completed once per account during a week or two week span.
2. It would seem that for those who are able to attend even with the very limited availability, people may be loosing out on getting a memento. I don't want to really rehash the EM event drop process. IMO since this is a global arc, everyone who participates should be able to get a drop. As I mentioned in my previous post, I attended last nights event on Napa which is my home shard. I participated from start to finish (not just sitting AFK at the dragon nest). I spent the bulk of the final fight healing and ressing players and thier pets. Toward the end I tried to get in a WOD on the dragon, but hit massive lag around the dragon. When it died I was able to loot, but got no drop. I don't think that is right for a global event that I participated in.
Based on my assessment of those two factors, I think this has been poorly implemented (at least so far).
If thier intent for a global arc was not to give everyone who participated a memento, they may have successfully done that, but I think that is a poor plan. What if the intent was not to give everyone an item but to give out a random amount to those that participated?
What if they scheduled two identical events and you were not able to go to either, would you say there shout be three...four...to what extent?
Now say they did however many events you say there needs to be; you went to them all and still did not get an item....?
Personally I would have done it more along the lines of a quest with a drop at the end with the quest available for 1-2 weeks. Those who want to participate can do so on thier own schedule and receive the memento. What if the intent was not to give everyone an item but to give out a random amount to those that participated?

So what then is the point of playing? I ask you what is the point of playing the game if there is no reward? Can anyone just play the game anymore without a reward or some 'clicky drop'? Isn't the game chock full of enough useless pixel crack?
But giving something to everyone is not something they like to do anymore... it's about feeding the greed of the rares dealers... The rest of us can go suck an egg... if you have billions of gold and all the clout you can have whatever you want.... meanwhile everyone else can go fish and hope to get "lucky".Personally I would have done it more along the lines of a quest with a drop at the end with the quest available for 1-2 weeks. I'm pretty ok with the EM events as they are with the limited drops. If everyone played within the TOS (no multi-boxing) it would be about as fair as I think it can be done. My beef is with a global story arc that would seem to be leading up to the new expansion being delivered in such a limited fashion. But giving something to everyone is not something they like to do anymore... it's about feeding the greed of the rares dealers... I've never denied the game has been geared toward itemization for some time. However, this does not mean EM events need to be geared toward it as well. The EM Events are the precise events that should be geared toward community building, so on and so forth. Especially those in the new story arc for the upcoming expansion. They should announce right away "no drop tonight" and those who stick around are the ones who really want to play.So what then is the point of playing? I ask you what is the point of playing the game if there is no reward?
Years ago before all the "itemization" it was about community... Then we were given Doom and all it's ilk that came with it... ever since it's about items..... such is the cost of advancement... so now it IS about the ITEMS.
This is the door they opened when Doom and artifacts and all the crap that came with it was introduced. The game has not been about skill or friendship or community since... If you thought it was you have been living a lie.
I am a FIRM believer in that, if the EM event completely did away with "drops" they would be A LOT more fun. Just my opinion. Can anyone just play the game anymore without a reward or some 'clicky drop'? Isn't the game chock full of enough useless pixel crack?
I think all of this is true... Which is why I think EM style events are such a poor delivery method for a global story arc when drops are given out. There has always been a caveat or criteria to acquiring a drop: participation, loot rights, damage, showing up, healing, rezing etc.. But even when you land within that criteria pool there is still a chance that you might not get the item because there is only a finite amount handed out.The only way to guarantee that you get a drop is to have everyone get it, period. But then you will have those people that could not attend complain they didn't get one. So blanket give everyone one in their bank box. Which would negate the need for events.
Or you can try harder, plan better, change characters skills, attend more events, buy more accounts, etc etc.
I attend the majority of events on all shards with one single character. I do not always get a drop and I hate it when I don't. The difference is I admit that it is greed that creates that bad feeling, not a deficiency in the current drop logic.

There is nothing lost by those who would immediately leave once it is announced there won't be a drop. There would be enough who would stay and play, atleast certainly on Atlantic. It certainly couldn't hurt to try this out.
My critique is more toward the notion that there were some 'poor disappointed players who didn't get a drop but spent so much time fighting and healing'. Was there any utility of the drop which was given out? Was it special in anyway (i.e., it some how relates to future events)? Or was it just more useless pixel crack?
Oh I think account bound or shard bound would be nice. They can make stuff shard bound.... that would take the wind out of the sails of the greedy rares people. If they are willing to make all VvV crap Shardbound so folk can't go to dead shards to get things easily and cheap then they ought to make EM items shard bound so that things from stories on that shard STAY on that shard.Well here's some irony... I finally got a drop tonight from the EM event on ATL. Almost makes me want to change my mind on my position of having no event drops considering how much people were offering for it...
But that is in fact part of the problem. I opted to keep the, despite being 'pixel crack' rather than turning it over for the quick 150M I was offered for it. The people who pay attention to the story, try to role play, rez others and keep on pace with what's happening in the story, rarely if ever, are the ones who get drops or any recognition. Most of the time, it seems the people who get the drops are the ones able to cast Word of Death as quickly as possible with their 5.0 dragon tanking the boss for the entirety of the event.
Something else they could do with the drops, is make them account bound to whoever they drop to. Would take away the incentive to immediately flip it to rares dealers.
they should have been global events u could do at your own leisure...trying to schedule a certain time...is real pain in the neck...especially as this is a new expansion lead
No that sucks I can't loot mobs at EM events anymore. The simple answer is go back to the original EM drop system - clickies, random items on Mobs and not just the Boss Mob, items hidden in secret places you can FIND WITHOUT HAVING TO KILL STUFF USING YOUR BRAIN, and also the current darling of the system damage versus boss mob. Mix it up. Make it interesting. Keep everyone guessing.
This is why I hate event drops. People go to an event that should just be a fun adventure, but instead leave feeling cheated because they didn't get a rare.I know I was pretty upset last night to attend the event on Napa and not get a drop even though I got looting rights on the boss corpse. I spent the whole fight healing people and thier pets only to get no drop. So much for an everyone drop.
i think thats is the problem of a lot of people. they simply CANNOT attend the majority of events due to Family, Work, Timezone, LAG, sick dog whatever. and there are the ones who are "lucky" to addend at nearly all events, of course the have a better drop rate as they simply to more evends, IF these are multiboxing their chance is even much higher.I attend the majority of events on all shards with one single character. I do not always get a drop and I hate it when I don't. The difference is I admit that it is greed that creates that bad feeling, not a deficiency in the current drop logic.
I don't mind the normal EM events dropping the way the do. Did the EM event on Napa last night and didn't get a drop. Sure I would have liked one, but was fine not getting one. My beef is what I think should be an EVERYONE drop still leaves people out... Even people who participated in the boss fight enough to get looting rights. This is why I hate event drops. People go to an event that should just be a fun adventure, but instead leave feeling cheated because they didn't get a rare.
Everyone or no one I say.
