Throwing Temp

I've noticed a lot lately (as I don't typically do EM events) that ppl are bringing throwers like crazy. Since it doesn't seem they would make very good samps by only leeching 50% of normal stats, what is the typical build on these kinda chars? I'd like to expand my characters a bit and seeing as the only garg I've got is my crafter, I'm at somewhat of a loss as to what direction would be best suited for a PVM char that mainly does events and whatnot.

Little help to get the wheels moving in the right direction? I.e. skills, stats, your choice of weapons? Thanks fellas and fellets

Just off the top of my head, it's probably a throwing mystic, so....
120 Throwing
120 Mysticism
120 Focus
120 Tactics

Given that so many events (all?) are unimaginative and uninspired bloodbaths, toss on like
120 Anatomy
120 Healing

But really, all you need is Mystic, Throwing, Focus, and Tactics enough to do the specials---- and you can mix match the rest.

Mine is:
120 Throwing
120 Tactics
120 Anatomy
120 Bushido
100 Necro
70 SS
70 Chiv

Hasn't been updated since 2011 but still wrecks everything. Gargoyles make great sampires.

I don't know about the shard you're on but, on Atlantic EM events are no different now to how they were 5+ years ago, by which I mean biased and unimaginative. Typically they consist of being there at the start for 'roll call' which means if you get rights on the final boss you'll have a chance at the drop. Which is really stupid because it means not being able to use the best character for the job. So if you like to actually use more than one character on your account other than a Tamer or dexxer you risk not being viable. Also 90% of the time the boss is just a Crimson Dragon or Slasher with a different graphic so build to deal with those and you're half way there.

In short, spam AI, or say All Kill, or if you want to make it 'interesting' do both is the key to EM events.

Can you elaborate more on how gargs make great samps? From my thought process, throwing is equivalent to archery in that you only leech 1/2 as much as swords/mace/fencing, and in most cases wouldn't be enough to maintain in a lot of the bosses. I've got a guildie that says he does some serious damage on bosses with his thrower, but I haven't dug deeper to get his template and set up as that char isn't on the shard I play.

Where have you seen that ranged attacks leech 50% of melee? Just curious, as I'd never heard that.

I want to say it's all ranged attacks leech 50% of melee... just coded that way.

Throwers use Armor Ignore from the Soul Glaive, with SSI and Stam enough to swing at max, it used to be the most damaging weapon- not sure if that is still true or not, but either way, it is still up there.

Also, Gargoyles have pretty good sampire melee weapons. You lose the benefit of the swamp dragon. But, it would allow you to go whammy (wraith form using cursed weapon instead of using vampiric embrace).

Common misunderstanding here. The only thing that got cut in half was the amount of mana leech and life leech on ranged weapons. If a melee weapon would have 100 hml/hll, the same weapon as ranged has 50 hml/hll. Basically you get half as much for same imbuing intensity. Also cannot go over 50 hml/hll on ranged weapons, same as you cant go over 100 on melee weapons. Also only hml and hll are affected, hsl is same as melee.
For the same displayed value, you do leech exactly the same on ranged or melee, no difference. Also vampiric embrace, curse weapon and wraith form do exactly the same.

Basically Lord Gods template above is a very good sampire build, with either 120 anat or resist. I did run the same when i started playing siege, can level both sa spawns even in complete crap gear. Never played that on prodo in good gear, but i assume its extremly good then.

I currently run a gargoyle samurai ( on prodo ) thats is
120 swords
120 bushido
120 tactics
120 parry
120 resist/anat
90 chiv
30 anat

Dual short axes, gargish talwar, stone war sword. Works great so far, but exact template and suit are still work in progress.

Also in reply to other replies above...

Gear is easier/cheaper to get on a gargoyle, because, most people (mistakenly) think gargoyles are a bit ****, 120 Archery 6m, 120 Throwing 1m. There's the Talwar for Whirlwind, Disc Mace & Maul for AI & Double Strike, and Soul Glaives for spamming AI at range. Glaives used to (past tense) have the same base damage as Heavy Crossbows until the devs made all weapons comparable to each other. Gargoyles get an extra 5 HCI, 2 MR racial bonus. Glaives are now identical to composite bows, only they're one handed, so you can use pots without the Balanced property and you don't need to carry ammo/weight.

Is it difficult to stay in the sweet spot for throwing range? Or just takes a small bit of practice.

Biggest disadvantage atm for melee garg is the lack of a proper ai weapon. Disc mace is a bit low damage, stone war sword does sick damage but is simply to slow in some cases to keep swingspeed up.There is nothing in between.

Tbh i did never bother about sweet spot. When i play thrower its either cyclone melee style for momentum strikes , when using soulglaive there is usually alot of other stuff keeping you busy enough to not watch range all the time.

I just started a garg thrower this past week. It's been interesting so far. The dmg from a soul glaive is pretty ridiculous. Mind you I'm just fighting Arctic ogres and balrons . Temp is
120 throwing
120 tactics
100 anat
90 Bush
90 swords
90 chiv
And I'll likely go with 99 necromancy and fill the rest into chiv or anat.
Still working on a berserkers breastplate and maby the swing speed cape/wings so I can finalize my jewelry with some swing speed and maby +skill.
Does anyone know the formula for parry to reduce the hit penalty from melee throwing weapons? I may switch swords for parrying if I find that more useful when I step up to some tougher fights.

I meant to also ask if the gargoyle 5hci is passive or will it show as being over capped on the char sheet? As in 50/45 or 45/45 with the 5 being assumed

Parry does not work with ranged weapons.
If you want to run throwing + shield, i believe some dev did say its -10 to your real chance to hit or defend for 120 throwing/parry. After all hci/dci calculations are done, so overcap is not possible.
Bushido is also a no go then.

The 5 hci will add to your stats and show on the stats page, but 50 hci cap is gone, its 45 like everyone else. So 40 hci on items will show as 45.

Gargs can't get damage reduction from dragon barding.
Throwing range depends on you STR... and you do much less damage on max distance.

120 Throwing
100+ Tactics
100+ Anatomy
80 Bushido (for Perfection bonus)
60 Necro (Cursed Weapon + Wrath form)
60+ SS
90+ Chivalry (EOO, and sometimes Healing, Curing, Remove Curse)

You can go with just those skills or can add one other skill (RS or Healing or something else).

120 Throwing
100+ Tactics
100+ Anatomy/RS
100+ Chivalry
120 Mystic
120 Focus

After looking at these temps I was thinking something along these lines:

120 Throwing
120 Tactics
120 Anat
120 Bushido
120 SS
100 Chiv
20 Necro

My only real question at this point since I rarely play a mage is...is all that SS necessary for EM events? Or would it be more beneficial putting more into Necro to make it easier to cast curse wep and wraith form?

Imo you really don't want to be fizzling Curse Weapon. 100% success with Necro spells is minimum skill +40, so you need at least 40 Necro not to fizzle Curse Weapon. I use a bunch of other Necro spells on my character including familiars for Bake Kitsune's which you can tell to kill and stay for a nice pair of 800 mana dumpage GM Mages along side your AI spam. You could go 40 Necro, 120 Chiv, 80 SS and still leech plenty.
