Caution when moving wooden boxes.

So I have a 2 story that is set to private. I wanted to redecorate and had some wooden boxes with items on second floor. I was standing on first floor. So rather than run upstairs and bring them down I decide I'll use the shft-ctrl to see the wooden box bars on second floor and then use retrieve to bring them to my empty pack. No problem wooden box appears in my pack. I lock it down on first floor. Check. I get another box from second floor using shft-ctrl and retrieve to my pack. Check. I lock it down on top of first wooden box just like they were on second floor. Check! Then suddenly *poof*
box disappears. Wait house is not public and hasn't been for very long time. Move another wooden box from second floor using shft-ctrl and retrieve to my pack. Lock above another wooden box. And yep! *poof* again. *sighs*

Something is definitely broken for those of you who care about your items. So becareful.

Sorry for your loss (hope there wasn't too much good stuff in those crates).

Have you ever done this box moving like this in the past without them disappearing on you?

Does anyone have access to your house? Have you tried popping into design to see if it "kicks" your boxes under your sign? Sometimes moving things especially with circle of trans can drop items under floors.

Did you look into the box you put the box on top of? Maybe it fell in...

All wooden boxes were over 100 items. So they didn't drop into the one below it. I did check anyways and it wasn't there. I checked relocation box. No one has access to my house and it is private. It also happened twice in less than a minute with wooden boxes having over 100 items each. Also I actually verified the wooden box that was locked down over the second box was "locked and secure". I check immediately after securing each one to verify. The second box I actually watched it disappear and it was definitely "locked and secure". GM came to look under house to no avail. I'm looking to see if I can duplicate results with less important items. I'll let ya know.

Frustrating!

But you did seem to get a GM pretty quick.

I use that retrieve feature like that all the time

That's extremely scary. I wonder what happened.

Set up some wooden boxes on second floor and tried moving them and stacking on first floor using same method. They moved fine. *shrugs* No idea what caused others to vanish. No other players co-owned to house and security is set to private. Very strange.

Last time that Happened to me the box fell through the floor underneath the house. Had to Demolish and replace.

Generally when that happens you can still see the item with shft-ctrl but can't actually pick it up. Not in this case. GM actually came and checked in spot under ground but found nothing. I guess its just my RNG for a burp in the code *shrugs*

Any chance you can verify if the missing items are still counting against your lockdown count? My first thought would be some weird z-axis bug where because you retrieved them from the floor above, they wind up floating out of sight somewhere in the sky above your house after you lock them down again.

Missing items are not counting against lockdown count! That was a good idea to check. Thanks.

I'm sorry to here u lost some items. I have lost stuff too like u. I have also have had chars that were full of stuff, including their banks, lost everything except their gifts. they were not great items but that's not the point. told mesanna about it but u know what was said lol. I have also lost tokens from banks, makes me wonder if they were duped.

Bummer. Next question: where is your house located? Do you have group spawns like hind packs, wolf packs, or shepherds who spawn nearby? I heard they did away with gypsy, brigand, and orc camps because these were affecting player houses. Perhaps a different group spawn is causing something similar.

Behind Empath Abbey. No spawn except for occasional wandering monk or mongbat. The ground scenery changes. Sometimes weeds appear or disappear. And then sometimes the yew rainstorms.

It seemed to me like some sort of timer event also. About 1-2 minutes after locking and securing it would be gone. This happened twice. I was wondering if I was retrieving to pack and then grabbing from pack and securing down too fast. I would get message at bottom left of screen that said (no longer secure) when I retrieved each time. Then I secured box on top of another and I actually moused over box and it read 'locked and secured'. This house is right along the no placement zone around Empath Abbey. Also it was always the top box that vanished. Never the bottom box.

I also had a soulforge on roof and a parrot near bye. I know sometimes deeds can effect the ability to place other deeds on other levels or placing items near them. But like I said, I actually saw that box was locked and secured on top of other one before it vanished.

The GM thought maybe it was tied to something about that particular location.

So right now I have no idea, I just chalk it up to very strange. *shrugs*

So this is just North of Empath Abbey? My old GM once told me that a special ley line runs through that area... it goes right along there... He used to have a small tower just north of the Abbey. Long ago folk believed this line was "special" and one had the ability to get better skill gains along this axis line... now whether that's true or an old wives tale I can't say... but I can say that I've always used that line to gain stealthing and hiding and found that it does infact give me the best gains I have ever gotten. Coincidence or true I don't know. So I don't know... maybe there is something odd about the area.

Yes! North of the Abbey and Yes! Me! o.0
I just always recall discussion in the guild years and years ago about how special the line is that runs through the abbey North to South... and how it's what they called a "gain line"... myths about these things abounded back in the day... but everyone who was super old in the guild who'd been there at the beginning knew about it. And whether it's an "old wives tale" or true I don't know but I just know that I've always had good gains along that region. But Yew is my City... and perhaps I'm a bit Bias... though I don't like hearing there is a scary issue of things vanishing.

I wonder if there isn't some sort of odd overlap of mini-server there... And it's possible that near the Abbey it thinks it's not in a "construction" zone. Now many years ago there were always people living "in" Yew. You could place all over in the city and small houses dotted the town.... then some zoning law came in and the houses vanished one by one. And then it was once again open to placing when the swamp vanished... and once again small homes dotted the woods around town. (which I always liked).... then I'm not sure when but not long ago you could once again no longer place within the town limits and the homes vanished one by one again.

So I wonder is your home "in" the city limits? Perhaps that might have something to do with it.

I've seen the changing scenery bug all over the place. It becomes most noticeable after visiting Felucca when you get the Felucca tone and the desolation scenery pops up. It's very annoying. Do you remember if that area was swampy during the failed Meer Spell?

I don't think the area to the north of the abbey was swampy when the Meer Spell failed. I think the areas mostly effected in Yew at that time were more towards town and to the south of town.
