Yea, it comes with the territory, ICQ like many of us remember the dawn of the internet.
I have a very early low 6 digit ICQ and used to use it all of the time when playing. I just figured with so so many better options that the UO crowd would have moved on from ICQ to something else. There are better options. But I guess thats the UO crowd for you ... moving on isnt exactly something they easily do.
Such as? I like ICQ for the whole number instead of a username. Also the fact i didn't have to give them loads of personal details to make an account. To be honest UO should of had a in game messaging system built in a long time ago.

I like Pidgin myself since it's cross platform
I still use Trillian because it works with Skype, ICQ, MSN, Yahoo Messenger and everything... I think it even does Facebook and Twitter..... but I don't use that crap so I wouldn't know about that..... but it does everything I need it to.

I was having issues with the four year old version I was using not connecting, so I finally updated. That didn't start out well but improved. I am online and it didn't give me fits connecting.
i use it as well, but honestly people, ICQ was sold to a Russian firm 5 years ago... Continuing to use this method of communication is pretty stupid. Google it up and woo hooo.

Well until all the ISIS stuff started happening I never had issues but since then I am bombarded by "Chinese" males looking to "chat" with an American Female... Which is super annoying... I keep asking how did you get my #? Website they say.. I"m like WTF website? I'm not supposed to have my number there for everyone... just people on my list.. but yep there it is. But I'm always polite and tell them that the only thing my ICQ is for is for my friend in UO to contact me and if you don't play UO I don't want to "chat".
DELETED it after a Russian Company bought it.

About once a week or so random people claiming to be Chinese students add me on ICQ and ask the exact same questions every single time.
#1 where do you live
#2 if you say America, they then are excited and talk about wanting to study at an American university, if you say anything else they stop talking.
#3 they ask what your job is in real life
#4 they then ask about the government and military
#5 they eventually ask if you have ever been in the military and ask other random information about government organizations.
The questions continue on like that for a very long time, and get more specific and more personal depending on the answers you give them, I've tested lots of different fake answers with these people many times and it almost always goes like that.
It seems incredibly suspicious that all these "students" ask the exact same questions in the exact same order and seem particularly obsessed with the military and government. Not like they might be spies from another country trying to gather information about the government or anything

They have never asked me about the Government ... one asked the all time favored question of what exactly do you learn in "English" class if you are english and speak english. The old icq no longer works....iam no longer able to use icq....i have tried reload relog etc etc it does not want to work on my machine...iam sorry if we had unfinished buisness i cannot use icq any more...pm me etc etc....icq is totally messed up for me
