Why can't I ride my dragon?

Clearly a dragon is bigger than a horse and is capable of handling much more weight. It makes no sense that I can't ride this magnificent beast. You have people riding llamas, come on.... Gargoyles flapping around and still I am forced to run ahead of my beast that should clearly be able to out run me. Have you never heard of the Dragon Riders of Pern? You guessed it, they rode their dragons. I'm not asking for mind reading with them but my feet are tired after all these years of running!

Mine is too.... and I'm often surprised he agreed to be my friend and doesn't smack me upside the head and say "stupid elf No I won't do that!" more often. Or tell me to take a long walk off a short pier. I keep expecting him to just shake his head and laugh...

I always wanted pets with human intelligence to have a mind of their own, and take a cut of the loot heh.

If your feet are tired and it is such a big issue to you in general is there any legit reason why you don't make your tamer a garg?
Very nice taming gear is not that hard to come by these days so switching suits is no big deal.
Unless ofc you also have some kind of odd garg issues also?
Maybe you are an old school tamer and traditionalist? But that wouldn't make sense either because traditionally tamers have not been able to ride a dragon since day one of UO.
I am perplexed now...

My guess is that the Dragon with it's added intelligence says to hell with that you have two legs ...... use them.

I just really miss my dragon flying. Years ago I used to just enjoy watching him fly behind me as I walked or rode. Now it's like I've taken his spirit away and he just plods along behind me like he's depressed or something. I hate it.

Imagine chasing someone down at mounted speed...hitting them with a mana vamp and dismounting and attacking with a fully trained greater.....ummm ya sorry very short sighted idea. Umm, if you see someone riding a greater dragon, don't dismount them? I mean their dragon which is their main weapon if they are a tamer wouldn't be able to have it attack you if they were riding it. So...

Probably the same way peasants don't run screaming when tamers walk down the streets. My fully trained horses can take down trolls and ogres and those fully trained horses have a higher intelligence than most of my characters. Then you've got the talking variety, like Smith the talking horse and Sherry the talking mouse. There was also a talking philosophical dog that wandered with the good gypsies too.

hrm... i remember the cries of foul in the early days when ppl were dismounted from nightmares...
so is a greater dragon.... if you gonna go pvp someone riding a greater dragon, you deserve to be toasted!
i would think twice about going after someone riding a dragon, that would be some powerful tamer, eh?

IF they do dragon riding, well... it should be one of the hardest things in the game to do - a lofty goal - mayhap raise the skill cap to something like 200 and yeah, that will take a while.

Dragon NOT Greater Dragons wouldnt actually ruin the pvp system at all imop, 2-3 hail storms with a dragon slayer book, would kill it insta, just like how u kill a bane dragon or a cuside with a fey slayer... Maybe make the dragons a bit smaller than greater dragons as well and make a 15th ethy vet rewards of those

They would need to make many changes to templates across the board to balance this idea for pvp. As it stands right now, tamers are already powerful. Making dragons rideable would be too overpowered.

I know this is a for fun post, but guys, ridable dragons will never happen because of the Z-axis limitations of the UO game world. Remember when we all got excited about rideable Bouras and got...this?

So we are going to get a new rideable tiger as a vet reward.
We already had a rideable boura which is a tiny tim version of the real boura.

You can ride your Dragon...your Swamp or Bane Dragon that is.
Don't worry though. Next expansion we'll have ridable Raptors and T-Rexes!
