Hi,

I have been thinking of coming back to the game after several years off, I quit when all my friends went to different games. I was wondering if any guilds might be looking for a player? I do remember that playing this game alone sucks . I am going to open a trial account when I am off work, I really have no server preference because I don't know anyone anymore. Also any advice on what my first character should be? Preferably one that is cheap and fast on skill gains and can be decent at making money?

Btw I am into every aspect of the game almost, but I think mostly pvm until I can afford to make a good character.

You're looking for a guild, so I take it you prefer a group more than solo? I would think it would be easiest to find a guild on Atlantic, maybe Great Lakes second. Be aware that a lot of guilds have been ripped off by imposters who infiltrate to steal and kill, so you may have to establish some relationships first before you are invited to join.
Are you thinking of fel champ spawns and PvP or PvM in trammel?

Welcome Back ! We missed you :)

It's going to be practically a brand new game for you with the exception of graphics ;).
Your 1st major decision will be which client you want. I'd suggest trying both.
I prefer the Classic Client but some players swear by the Enhanced Client. It boils down to your preference.
If you go with the Classic, you will want to get UOA. Many UOA features are in the Enhanced Client however.

Character creation also depends on your preference. UO still has the classic tamers and mages but has added
several different casting classes. There are several added fighter classes as well. One of the more commonly used is
the sampire. I'd suggest reading up on that template here on Stratics and even UOGuide.com, both are incredible
resources. You can get this template up and running relatively cheap & upgrade gear as you progress while
earning money to start other templates and afford gear.

As for guilds, I think Yadd hit the nail on the head. Some players and even a few guilds have made it their goal
to infiltrate all guilds they can to steal, kill, and scam from guildmates. This leaves most guilds wary of new players.

It's always beneficial to play the game and establish your character amongst the community. This may seem like a
PITA at 1st but it gives others a chance to know you before invitations to join happen. That said, there are a couple
new player guilds that will guild you right off the bat to help you get started. On Atlantic HHYC is one of them.

Help Chat can also be extremely beneficial. I play Atlantic & can say most players in Help Chat are willing to
help new players. Do be careful tho as even Help Chat can get a couple huge D-bags on occasion.
I'm going to stop rambling now :D

As far as characters go I'd suggest an archer of some sort. Melee skills are cheap and straight forward to gain and having some distance means you won't have to take as much damage, especially in a group. Archery/tactics/anatomy/healing/chivalry and a basic imbued suit and bow should get you started.

Visit all shards that has the lowest ping. The CC will show you a better way to see the ping rate. After that use what ever Client you like as long as you play UO. A swordsmen, Fencer or Macer are prob. the easiest to start.

Come to Cats. Fight players. Fight monsters. Role-play. Go hunting. Go to events. Run events. It's all there for you. Hope to see you around.

Hello!

If you end up on the Atlantic shard, then you would be welcome to join up with the Dread Pirates [DRED]. We do everything from PVM, PVP, have some crafters, others who run merchant houses or are really into the decorating aspect, so on and so forth. We can accommodate any style of play.

We have a TeamSpeak channel that all guild members are invited to participate in. On a nightly basis, we always have a good group in there running spawns or doing whatever is current in the game. There would certainly be people available to help you out with new player templates, get you started off with some decent armor and weapons and make sure you get started off on the right foot. We have enough knowledgable players in the guild to help explain pretty much any other aspect of game mechanics you need to know.

If you are interested, or need any help at all, feel free to send me a private message and I will share more information with us about how to get in touch. We're glad to see you come back to the game and hope you enjoy!

So when I left I gave my accounts away, is it worth buying one or should I just make a new one? Am I going to need to buy all of these expansions?

My suggestion would be to start a new account, unless you want the age of your account for vet rewards. Start with the 30 day free trial to test it out. If you decide to make it official to come back, yeah, you'll want to buy the upgrade, just make sure you buy the right one. Some folks have bought the one for new accounts, once you start a trial account it won't be able to use the new account upgrade.

I started a new account to test things out, then reactivated an old account for the vet age of the account and transferred all of the gold and items I made in the trial account over to my newly activated one.

Do you need the expansions? If you just want to do the old champ spawns and dungeon raids, no
If you want to gather resources to make armor or sell, you'll need the Stygian Abyss to access all the new content of the Abyss and Underworld - I highly recommend it, but not needed at first
High Seas for ships and fishing? Not unless you've played the basic game and SA expansion so much you're craving something new. I don't recommend it until quite a bit later, if at all

Also, I wouldn't mess with a trial account. There are too many bothersome limitations and things you can't do with a trial account. Google Ultima Online trial account and you'll see. If you're going to give the game a try, give it a try with a real account.
