How can they not provide an in-game store.
I can't even imagine the amount of money and customers they've lost by not doing this. It is one of those things that is just utterly mind bending.

Let's say I run an amusement park. I realize there is a pretty simple decision to make: Either
A) would-be- customers get to buy tickets and trinkets at the booth by the entrance
or
B) They don't get to do so.

In order to make ticket sales by the entrance possible, I'd have to invest on a booth. Hmm..NOPE. Buying a booth would cost too much in money and effort. I don't want to spend on a booth. So, instead, people will not be able to give me money by the entrance. Instead, the would-be-customers have to use tedious, confusing, easy to miss 3rd party web site for buying the tickets and trinkets. You just show up in amusement park and would like to buy additional apparel, some candy and teddy bears. You know, spend some cash on impulse while in there and having fun? What's that, you'd actually let me literally print money out of you? Wellp, I don't want to make a booth. Tough luck pal. No can do.

Now, word or two about the web site. My amusement park is called FunByFlagg. Recon the www site where I sell tickets and trinkets is called something like FunbyFlagg.com etc? Lol no. Think again. It is called ORIGINalamusementparksonline.com, and it features around 500 other parks, almost all of them more visible and advetrtized than mine. But hey.

Mind..bending.

It's not that I greatly suffer from lack of such store on some personal level. It's not like I have burning desire to buy any UO store stuff as such. But I do want them to make more money. Cause that just might result in my fave game becoming better. Don't mistake this as some " novel idea" or letter to some suggestion box or something. It has been told to them time and again. Just expression of frustration. This should have happened 10 years back.
Why it still isn't the case I know not..

Mesanna has said before that they want to have an in game shop. I would imagine the items currently featured on origin.com would be for sale in game and maybe some new ones. I'm sure it's "coming soon".

initially i thought this was a good idea but then i started thinking it might have an impact on player run vendors (especially those on smaller population shards).

Be careful what you wish for. If memory serves me right, they put that in Sims, copped everyone's money from the big rush to buy stuff, then shut the game down...
I'm not wishing for anything that wasn't provided already; ability to buy in-game things for RL cash. Just that this service been packed in utterly horrible fashion. Been for over 10 years now. Heh.

Heh. Yeah. " We would like to do that" " We'll think about it! " " Looks exciting, we'll look into it!" For 10 years. Nothing happens. Ever.

Don't mistake the OP as some sort of an optimistic suggestion box type of a thing. More of a frustrated "WHY IN **** HAVE THEY NOT DONE SO?!" There could have been like 10 years of printing cash off willing customers. Imagine the potential profit in that. It is a move that has saved and vitalized countless of MMOs over the years. Imagine what that profit made could have bought to UO.

Hillarious bit of course is how it is already there; I'm not asking for a new feature. Cash shop is there. It is just incredibly difficult to reach and utterly invisible to people playing UO. Nobody can impulse buy from there.

Booth selling fairy floss in amusement park-> Impulse purchases by customers
Amusement park providing not booth but instead, a hastily carved address to a weird website where fairy floss is just one of 4300000 different products sold -> No impulse purchases. Ever.

Well it seems UO is always last to hop on the band wagon, several games use in game stores, like GW2, Rift, Aion...etc, you pay RL cash for tokens, rubies what ever, and in turn you use those in the in game store.

Genuine question I have always had regarding an in-game purchasing system in UO - if there was a real money transaction system in game, how safe, secure and reliable do people think it would be, and how sure are we any really important data about us and our finances would be protected?

But there were no hackers in 1996 when the client was coded, right? :eyes: Certainly the robust, forward-thinking foundation on which UO was created still serves our needs today, right? RIGHT?

Oh. Wait...

Be thankful we have Vendor Search. An in game store would seriously undermine the customer's efforts to sell.

Because the devs are basically allowed to dupe merchandise.
