So you're further dividing the Governors from the (as Morgan once referred to us) Peasants with this permission group ? I hope it at least brings about something useful ? The citizens are the ones that come up with great shard ideas, not the Governors. But good luck with that secret society.

The Governor forums were for us to work out storylines shared between the towns, so players did not get to read the story before they took part in it, and to raise things that were more specifically problems for Governors rather than filling the regular boards with them.... no conspiracy, no 'segregation', no 'secret societies'.

Mostly the Governors tried talking to everyone in game, on the shard forums, and on the general forums .... usually with precious little response.

Does Siege have active Governors? Or are they only active before and just after elections? I can't say I've fully jumped into role playing yet (too busy training :)) but I can't say I've seen nor heard from any of the Governors since I started playing again.

I know a lot of Governors and anytime any of us have had a meeting in public or anything it's like watching paint dry.... no one comes. Listen to a few crickets and be on your way.... Oh I take that back others come.... other Governors.

Hell even the meetings with King Blackthorn NOONE outside the RP/Governors attends. VERY rarely will someone outside attend and then they do thinking that this is a meeting where DEV's are and that they can get something. Once they realize this is more of an RP thing... and there is no "danger" or event or anything other than "talking".... they leave. I've come to realize over the years... having been a player elected Mayor LONG before any of this Governor business.... that as a general rule no one cares about the towns except those who RP they live there.

The ones who RP they live there truly care about the city they live in. Which IMO is a reason to start a room rental. Seriously bring people INTO towns. NO do not turn my dang town into a freaking trailer park like Magincia.... I seriously don't know whether to puke or cry over that. If that were "my" town I think I'd puke, cry and then quit. But rent out homes or rooms at inns. I'm sure it can be done. Let Governors do it. Give us a boon. Rental fees can go into the town coffers. Want to rent a house in Yew there are several along the shore perfect for fisherman! Not like the game uses them. You could designate what houses can/can not be rented... But generally renting the room would allow you to store your stuff in the chests there and they would be secure for you.... if you stop paying your crap goes to the townstone where you can pick it up .... if you don't pick it up the Governor then decides what is to be done with it... Given to the poor... or dropped off in Haven..... or discarded into the trash. Sold. Whatever. If the items don't get removed from the stone after 30 days it's then discarded. Could even put a few "pads" into places for folk to "deco" on.... like is on a ship. Where you can add 1 tile items to .... or lock something down on. Like a spot outside the door where you might lock things down just to deco your rental.

This could seriously make folk care about towns again.

Governor forums aren't new, they've been around for some time. I'm not sure about other shards but on Catskills it wasn't used much, I believe the last post was made about six months or so ago. We were using it mainly to try and coordinate events before non-governors started to run them too.

^^ THIS!! I had this same idea. Either let people rent rooms at the Inns or get the Dev team to build 'town houses' which can be rented by the week or month. People have been asking for more than one house per shard and I think this is the answer. Plus it brings some life to the othewise empty towns.

My thought is.............. Just play for the sheer enjoyment of what you want to impart to the game.. Do not look for anything bout what you can bring to it!!! That is the beauty of this game.. WE CAN BRING IT....... Bring your forces together and do wonderful things!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It can be done!!!!!!!!!

Concerning the city coffers, what exactly is all that gold used for? other than paying for the tradee deal with one of the guilds?

Nothing, yet. Just Trade Deals.

There's supposedly going to be an automated "library of improvements" a governor can request, possibly paying for with the gold on the city stone, but its still vaporware.

Okay. Wish there was a way to use some of it for rewards for various contests and events held in town. *sighs*

That would be nice, as being the one to foot the bill for city events is rather resource draining (especially when most people won't bother to come unless you throw tens of millions around)...However, doing it such a way that wouldn't be immediately abused would be difficult. (i.e. a Gov awarding an alt a huge sum just because they can.)

It's a joke how empty the Tram/Fel towns are. Getting people back into towns a little more often, such as with some of the tweaks you suggested, should be a primary objective of any changes they make with the upcoming expansion/release.

Create some areas where players can set up vendor shops. Half of the NPC shops could probably be merged or combined in someway. Give the governors some power here to maybe assign who can set up some of the shops...provide a reason for players to have to get to know their governors. If each Fel town had a shop selling some PvP items, maybe there would be some more reason to do VvV (okay maybe I'm getting ahead of myself).

There has to be a way to make towns seem atleast a little more relevant...

Oh I totally Agree.... Make the Ankh in Yew at the Abbey work as an Ankh allow Tithing there. Why not!?! It's an Ankh. Give other towns a boon. I'm glad to finally have a Dock in Yew but lets not stop there. Lets add more things that make towns more convenient and useful. Give them unique things.

On GL's Skara Brae is known for the Fairgrounds outside town... This could be a useful place for many things.

Minoc is known for it's mine so give the smiths and such a boon there. Give those loyal to Minoc a bonus to Mining and Smithing. Give them unique recipes they can work for by doing the BoD quests in Minoc... and being a Citizen of Minoc.... let doing those bods there earn them loyalty to Minoc.

Yew is the wood capital of UO..... so give Carpenters a turn in system based on making carpentry items and give those Loyal Citizens of Yew special recipes for Carpentry. Other towns can be given other special things... Moonglow for Inscription... Britain for Tailoring, Trinsic Tinkering etc.... This would not only give the towns a boon but it would give crafters something to work on... you couldn't be loyal to all the towns.... so folk who want things will have to buy from crafters who can make what they want...

Give towns who's gate it nine miles from the town a teleporter of sorts that takes you to and from the gate. That would be an "easy" fix. Anyway there are many things that could be added to make towns more useful.

Allowing Vendors or live crafting in area's renting a "tent" to craft from at a craft fair would be nice... Each town could have their own unique fair... If you go with the idea of giving each town a specific craft to excel in then it could be pretty neat. Governors could request various weeks or days or whatever that their town would have a fair...

Anyway those are just a few thoughts off the top of my head.

The governors, elected by their fellow players who participate in the City Loyalty program, have boards set up where they discuss shard events with EMs. These boards, specific to each shard, are used for the planning of events, story arcs, shard changes and such without overwhelming the EM. The entire governor program is a way for players to help effect change within the game via representatives, I believe this is called "democracy". It is something we screamed for when LB was "killed" by some orc on Napa. We were so adamant about it, some of us on Napa flat out refused to participate with the inception of the Royal Britannia Guard. Ah well, history....

It was through the efforts of the Governors combined across the shards that Yew and Minoc now have Docks. :)

The Governor Boards within each shard are private, but there is a "general" Governors' Board planted in the root level of the Shards category of our boards. There, anyone can post and make suggestions which the governors will the relay to the EMs.

Governors have a term of 6 months, then re-elections are had. Should new governors come on board, they will need to let the Admins here at Stratics know and we can then make adjustments. Should a governor lose re-election, then that person will be removed from the governor group.

Ok This Governor's board is different than the Governor's request forum section? Most of us who are Governor's are approachable if you but speak up, but we have no grand mystical powers over the Devs or EMs and you all have access to our new events person Wraith who travels between shards who can help ANY player group with events with a bunch of qualifying rules but there is some latitude in there.

The Shard Governor Board (the board located in each shard) is the original board that was in the EM Boards section.
All Governor boards were moved to their respective shards as many Governors had no idea where they were to begin with. :) It was surmised they would be easier to access by the Governors in the Shard Boards. This is especially true should a new Governor be elected, or a new EM joins us, it will make things easier to find.

All of the post in the EM boards were migrated and moved into their respective Shard Boards - so as to keep everything in one place for faster access and ease in finding. Again a lot of users didn't even know what the separate EM Boards were for.

There is a totally public Governors' Board that is not shard specific and is located at the top of the list of board above the Shards.

We do net tosses and get group hunts together as much as possible. I personally haven't been very active the last couple of weeks due to health issues, but yes, Siege does have active governors.

Just curious: Is that the new place to lobby for things like Britain Jail and stuff to Mesanna, while none of us peasants can actually disturb the high council there? :p

If you are a governor, PM myself, @Zuckuss or @Oscar the Grouch
We will verify your governorship and then put you back in the Governor Group.

Just make sure when you pm us you wear that funky, white-powder wig all governors wear. :D

That must be some silly human idea. We elves wouldn't wear that! It would cover my lovely ears and mess up my green hair.

And I don't grow old.. I just return to my tree for rest.

View attachment 31093 your hair looks white to me, and your ears are all covered up . . .

That is Malag'aste.... He's a Dark Elf... He has black skin and silkwhite hair like a spiders silk...

Willa of the Yew-wood.. Governor of Yew .... Is clearly an elf with Green Skin and Green hair. She'd be two pictures to the left of him.

Once upon a time years ago before Stratics had some mishap and lost all the files and such I used to post under the name Willa... but anymore I tend to play Malag more than Willa and more folk know me as Malag. So when I had to redo my log in for Stratics I used Malag instead. While I do understand the confusion since he certainly does have very white hair.

Back then I I used to have a Sig just for her... Let me see This might be a better pic:

Refresh and look again edited the post so you can see her more clearly...

I always loved her as a character she was my first character I made back when I started playing UO. She was always an archer... but back in the early days she was also a lumberjack.... LOL and she was a fletcher.... that's how she made her living. Until she joined the Yew Militia as a "healer". She gave up lumberjacking and fletching over the years and took up magery and mysticism so she could do more healing.
