You can try to change the game resolution but the best you`ll get is 800x600.

For some reason in the 17 years this game has been out, they have yet to figure out how to increase the size of the postage stamp you play on.

Of course you can play the EC and than have any size you want, but if your CC your just plain old screwed.

It IS possible for them to increase the size for the CC users but for some reason, it has never happened.

I not too long ago (6 weeks) got a new 24" gaming monitor http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-079-AC&groupid=17&catid=510 and when i started up UO its was tiny and there was no way to increase the size of the play window without dropping the resolution on my shiny new monitor.

I had to resort to ilegal 3rd party software to increase the game window to a size that was playable. I dont understand why i have to resort to ileagal 3rd party software and this option is not writen into the CC Code. If it can be done with 3rd party software it can be done in the code of the CC

I game with 2-24" monitors, one for game and the other for chats, web and stuff.
The play area for the CC at 800x600 is "okay", particularly while filling BODs so i can manage all the gumps. I can keep all the gumps and tiles and such off the play area, but it is still small. It would be nicer to expand the viewable area, much like the EC, for when I'm hunting and fighting. Not too keen on zoom, but wider view would be awesome.

Flipping to the EC, well, I can set it up nicely, but after about 10 to 15 minutes I have to get away from it. I cannot deal with the graphics, I typically get a migraine if I push myself to play for an hour in it. Is the ground cover I think - stone, grass, whatever. I can sit there without going anywhere and be fine, but if I get on my horse and run around, augh!
I play lots of isometric-view games, and UO's EC is the only one I really cannot deal with. :( Is not the UI or even the mixture of old-pixel art with the graduating smoothness of the new art. It is the texture of the ground that gets me. And there is no real contrast... try and find a bird or rabbit in the forest....

Kirthag, I don`t know if you have tried this but when I was using the EC I hated the movement and it kind of made me a lil queezy. While playing with settings I tried the enable V-synq. It smoothed out alot for me and made it alot more enjoyable.

Dunno if this may help you but it did make the EC much more pleasant to look at while I was moving at speed or at all.

*edit* these settings are within the EC btw =)

I tried V-sync both ways and didn't really see any difference. Does it depend on your monitor and graphics card whether it's useful?

It might I suppose. My rigs (AMD quad core) bout 5 years old with a less than stellar nvidia 500mb card,4 gigs RAM and a 22 inch Acer monitor. Just got rid of that tiny lil jerky feeling it had and made it much more fluid for me while on the move, especially horseback.

Change the screen resolution on your monitor to something lower than it's default and see how it works. My HP LCD monitor that was on my tower had a built in program to handle non default screen resolution and I set it to a lower resolution to escape the phone book sized text on websites. The CC was nicely sized at that resolution.

Ok...

My actual monitor resolution is set to 1920x1080
Went into UO/EC and set it up for full screen at 1360x768 - but that is fuzzy as all get out, so went back to 1920x1080
And since I'm using the resolution 1:1, turned off full screen, just unchecked the "show window frame" after maximizing the window. Easier to bounce back and forth from game to chat to game to website to game. :)

Then further tweaked the FPS as well as turning on the V-Sync... and honestly, it still causes my eyes to strain. Everything blurs when I run. Cannot see and it makes me kinda sick. My eyeglasses are relatively new and playing other isometric games with similar settings gives me no issues at all.

Its just UO's EC. :(

Here's a short vid...
I played overall for about 3 hours - still tweaking the entire time - got some strain and a mild headache. I really want to like the EC.... the monsters are awesome looking - I just have a hard time running around...

Yeah this is my problem too. If I run around for more then a few minutes I have a really hard time focusing and I have to look away or I get a headache and my eyes hurt! What is that?? I too have played a lot of different games and this is the only one that makes me seasick!

I would love to be able to play in both though :(

I'd guess it's because the EC uses tile art that was never meant for smooth, high framerates. Instead it uses the low-res art designed for the CC which uses pretty jerky movement.

Try limiting the framerate to 30, maybe. There should be an option for that somewhere in the EC's options menu.

Yep, under "user settings" there is an option for "max framerate" I think it might be set on 30 by default. I can't remember.

The default is 30. I went from 300 to max at 200 then back again to 20 and a few in between during my 3 hour session this morning.
Head still hurts.... o.0

Have you turned off the shadows and I've found that turning off the footsteps and music in the EC makes it much nicer and smoother. The footsteps and the movement don't really match up and that bothers me.

If you're true UO vet and fan then you'll have a 17" monitor set up just to play UO in the CC. Anything else then you're just a johnny come lately who doesn't appreciate what the game is all about. End of debate.
hehehe!
I actually do have that.. but is on my Mac now (used to be on my gaming rig until about 4 months ago).
Sucker is heavy too... ugh.

I bought this widescreen laptop instead of another tower because the laptops screen resolution matched up with the CC game window much better, 1366*768. Also let's me play wherever I might be inclined to kick back around the house. :)

Wow that is blurry.. I think that would bother me as well..
Not sure what the difference is between our comps but my EC is crisp and clear.

Youtube mutilates videos, even when you encrypt for HD. :(
I think I need a Vimeo account for my HD videos.

It isn't as bad as that, but it is bad no matter how I adjust everything.

Couple of things people don't seem to realize about the EC:

1) The play window is completely resizable, so you can have as much black space as you want.
2) With Pinco's installed, you can scale every gump and change the fonts (type, size, etc)
3) Turning off the shadows helps with GPU lag and may help with the motion sickness

Not sure why @Kirthag is getting so much blur... What's your graphics card? I'd definitely suggest getting Pinco's as he's made more tweaks to smooth the client out.

It may take several weeks worth of daily forays using the EC to get used to it.

Nvidia Control Panel and AMD equivalent may have some settings tweaks to make it look sharper, too. I haven't tried any yet.

youtube's video encryption seriously made the resolution bad, that's the video

i'm running an alienware i3 with Nvidia's GeForce GT640 (yeah, plan on getting a better card).

what irks me to no end is that diablo, wow, even sota are so much better looking and actually hog up more resources than the UO-EC. And yet, it is only the UO-EC that I have viewing issues with.

meh... I am "working" on it... I have noticed when I walk everywhere (as I do with my stealther) I don't get as sick.

Holy crap lol. Are you using it on a TV? I've watched UO on my 60" HD before and found it kinda odd. Just too big! My monitor is half that size and it takes up a lot of space, lol.
