Nonsense. Its more item based than any game out there. Youre living in yesteryear if you think UO isnt item based. And this community you speak of is a red herring. There is some good community but also a poisonous element too.
Uhm No
I might be an Old Sage wandering the lands of Sosaria but I am very current.
UO is for sure not more item based than any other game out there. It's all about your play style.
If you are focused on having the best most organized suit and set up for your play. Sure you might be focused on owning the current items. There are a few other game styles that could be said to focus on items but there are dozens of play styles where you really do not need the latest and greatest to have a great time.
The game does not force you to have current items in order to participate. You can participate in pretty much every thing and be a value to your group with any level of items.
Items also do not dictate if you are going to have fun or not playing the game. With so many things to do the possibilities are endless.
I have been playing the Ultima series since the early 70's there is rarely a dull moment and with so much content I am always learning something new or encountering a new challenge. It's fun.
The community is a Red Herring? I think not. You get out of the community what you put into it. There are plenty of good players and guilds across all the shards. Sure there are a few village idiots (just like here on the boards) but that is all part of what makes a community.
Look I know your three accounts are currently shut down and that you are bitter about the game as you have stated in your posts before but lighten up a bit. With 15 years of experience you should have a lot of positives to put back into the discussions. Maybe even something constructive.
I would be much more interested in those perspectives.
You obviously still have an interest as you are engaged here and as you say pop back into the game every once in awhile.
Then endless slamming of the Devs, Broadsword, Stratics, and other players is getting pretty old quick. Most people just start ignoring your posts at that point.
I think you might actually have some pretty useful knowledge and insight which could help out if you could drop the bitterness and engage in a constructive manner.
I for one would be interested in hearing ideas
