I started playing again after a few years. I can't seem to not keep on paying my UO subscription for the veteran rewards.

First thing I did was buy a boat off the website.
Then, I unloaded my stuff from the bank and put it on the boat as a temporary location before I found a good housing spot.
Apparently, that was a bad move.
I got back and all my stuff was gone and there was a note that said "We took your stuff succa"

Who could have guessed the boats weren't secure. Well, I've lost more stuff in the past. SO, I could take it. But, there's no way I would recommend the game to my friends. People are too used to games like WoW where you can't lose stuff. I totally understand UO is a different game. But, people who haven't played the game just "don't get it" is all.

If your ship was in Trammel no one can scuttle it and get onboard.
If your ship was in Felucca players can scuttle it, get onboard, but not get into your ship's hold.
If your ship was in Felucca and got scuttled then the ship's hold cleaned out, your access settings were wrong OR a friend was involved.
If your ship was placed in Felucca then loaded with your bank valuables...... horrible horrible idea.

Ships in this game are secure to the extent of the owner making them secure.
Whatever the case may be, I'm truly sorry it happened to you but hardly feel its the games fault.

Is that a Prodo thing ? Or are you talking about the tiny boats, which imo SHOULD be totally lootable when you scuttle them. There are a few folks on Siege getting away with that locked hold exploit !! :p

The OP said a few years they had played so probably forgot to secure. I agree its not the game's fault :)

Newsflash, but ships in Fel are NOT safe under any circumstances. If its scuttled, it can be boarded and DRY LOOTED, hold and cannons.

If it happened in Tram, it was either done by a warred guild or a friend that was accessed to the boat at officer level.

sorry you lost your boat, its a great story tho. Personally, the insecurity of items, even in these days of trammel is something i value in UO. Its not like the old days when you could rob a house, but also not like clean, riskless games where theres no worry of losing stuff. At least the thieves were polite enough to leave a note :)

The hold of a ship can not be looted even when scuttled unless it's security is set to allow on board players access. Many players set their ships hold to be accessed by anyone on the boat. This may cause the hold to be looted in Felucca as once scuttled, anyone may get on board. Cannon are the same way. If cannon access is set for anyone on the boat to use then once scuttled a player may board and redeed all cannons, leaving with them.

I have scuttled ships in Felucca, looted the hulls, redeeded the owners cannons, and happily sailed off :danceb:.
With the proper security settings, I have scuttled ships, not been able to access the hold, not gotten any cannons, and sailed off frustrated :arr:.
Arrrr matey.... please leave everything on your ship accessible to any players onboard & I will thank thee with a note :pirate:.

(OP, it wasn't me. I haven't pirated in a long time. But when I do start again, I really like the leaving a note idea & I'm gonna use it:) )

If you've been playing the game for a while (recently), then obviously you're going to know the rules. For someone just picking up the game, this stuff is foreign.

My biggest "loss" was transferring one of my Luna houses to my guild leader. The idea was it was only going to be temporary. Sadly, he never wanted to give it back. That was back in the day when you could get $500 for the house. Why would I have done that? It seemed to be low or no risk at the time. Same thing with the boat and my items on the boat. It's easy to second guess anything.

Another loss was back in the day when you could use HTML on items. Holy crap. I got scammed out of gold worth $75 (at least).

The one lesson I've learned is no matter what I lose, I'm always going to get that back and more. At one point, I had three luna houses, a brit moongate trammel and fel homes. and a tokuno home in a good location near the moongate. The spots right next to the moongate. Also, 10 BOD accounts with every character maxed on BS and Tailoring.

I purchased 26 boxes of the game when the soul stone was first introduced as a bonus. I think the each box must have cost $20 to $30. I can't remember now. I have every single skill in the game maxed out and on Soulstones right now. Multiple of some skills. Most of this I did a few years ago.
