BODs aren't a complete waste of time. The system is just out of date and flawed in a number of ways.Does this imply that working on BODs is a waste of time now?
This is great. Trouble is not all the EMs seem to update the em websites so the RSS won't pickup. Europa for example hadn't been update since November when I last checked. As we are updating how information flows in and around the Stratics.com domain, we will make sure we have RSS-feeds where available.
If you don't want to use Facebook, you don't have to.
Hopefully they will make a turn in system where we can toss all those shovels and hammers and stuff, and get PoF and stuff. Problem is, they will probably make the amount ya have to turnin so high, it will still be faster, easier, and cheaper to buy it.Anyway, a question:
"Pikeman: I hate BODs
Pikeman: And I think it is a wildly out of date system
Mesanna: agreed as we stated in past M&G's
Pikeman: Would you consider, in the future, revamping them into more of a fishing quest/trade quest style
Mesanna: we are going to change the reward system to something similar to Tokuno
Pikeman: Oh"
Does this imply that working on BODs is a waste of time now?
If they make a system where any bod you turn in is worth points then you use those points to buy the wanted reward, it could work.Hopefully they will make a turn in system where we can toss all those shovels and hammers and stuff, and get PoF and stuff. Problem is, they will probably make the amount ya have to turnin so high, it will still be faster, easier, and cheaper to buy it.
where can i see these feeds, or where do they normally show up? Somewhere other than the forums? nothing has shown up on many EM forums for quite some time. just checked europa, napa, and pacific still nothing. also, arirang is updated often, but its all in korean.Stratics will still receive feeds via RSS (Real Simple Syndication) from EM sites as well as UO.com where available. Is already happening...

This post was made via RSS feed. It was not posted by a Broadsword developer, but by an automatic RSS feed from their website as witnessed by the avatar:

Well, tinfoil hats aside, what I just can't understand is why it's so hard to setup town criers properly?
Take this week on Atlantic. I log in on friday/staurday and the town criers keep shouting things like "Lady Amendine calls for Crux Ansata. Meet at blackthorns castle". Needlessly to say there is no one there, if you give it a try now.
Is it such a pain to set them properly 2 days prior to an event, and remove the message 5 minutes after the event? Is it so hard to put date and time in the message?
Not trying to offend Bennu or the other EM (sorry will not make the fun and try spelling him). I enjoy the events and it's also kind of funny when people moan about the reward being just a dyed pentagram. Also the dedicated players know now it's thurdays, 8 pm EST for Atl events, big improvement imho. Communication on stratics and soon facebook was and will be ok as well. No question. All fine.
But why can't every EM jsut set the town crier 2 days prior to their events. Stating: "Lady Amendine call for Crux Ansata. Meet Thurdays 8pm EST at blackthorns"?
Then after the event finished, take the 5 minutes to reset the message.
It's basically Mesanna's pet project. Bringing joy to the shards for one hours out of 7 days. And then they try hard to exclude players who actually play the game instead of playing UO social media bingo.
Players do much better jobs. Auction houses, easter events, community hunts, and so on. Some promoted in chat hours before the events (they cant set town criers of course), posted in multiple forums, on the governor boards, with accurate date and time. And much more.
Not rocket science
It just seems that broadsword hasnt been "doing their part" lately. Stratics severely limited itself by accepting the conditions to become the "official link" between the devs and the players. Lately, dev response has been slim to none, and usually not in a timely fashion either. In general, official updates / responses seem to be more negative news / response than embraced with open arms. Lets be honest, you can read the major stuff, the patch notes, on the login screen.@Smoot and @DJAd
Broadsword staffers are not "required" to come and post anything on Stratics. The EM forums were set up as a courtesy by past staff to help the EMs communicate about their events. Now that most of the EMs are starting to use their own sites, we are working to get RSS from them to feed directly into relevant areas of Stratics. However that is a bit complex, considering the number of shards involved, and where to post them (Shard? EM?) is another consideration.
Something to remember, we here at Stratics are also reorganizing how information flows around our sites. For ease of navigation, finding information and monitoring the forums, some changes are being worked through and tested. Not all EM feeds are hooked up just yet - that is something I'm working on (as well as several other things). I also have communication in to Broadsword for their input - but won't hear anything back until sometime during the week.
I'm sorry its slow on our side here at Stratics - we are all volunteers with a very small crew as compared to the past. We are doing our best to get things moving forward AND maintain the smoothness of our sites without major disruptions (both in access as well as content and posts). Of course, it doesn't help when people on our team are pulled away from the tech to work on modding... it just slows everything down.
Best I can say is yes, we are working on things - many things. Once more solid information is available, an announcement will be posted for all to view and gawk at.
Right now, what I do know for sure is working are the following:
Keep in mind the RSS pull is not instantaneous and is being tweaked while we juggle a few things. Eventually I will have the timing for RSS pulls configured to scan faster.
- RSS feed from UO.com to UHall as posts as exampled above
- RSS of latest posts from Stratics forums to the home page (stratics.com)
Thanks everyone.
If you need some help cleaning up I can give you some tips. It's bad enough that people are blatantly allowed to post about the gold they are selling but you have staff posting in threads about how it's OK to cheat and hack the game because nobody will enforce the rules. Even if that is true or not this is not how you build a working relationship with a developer, and to top it all off you left the thread unedited so it can be seen by Broadsword. The rampant disregard of the rules of UO and Stratics is rife among the community and is upheld by your own staff and no visible, transparent effort is being done to stop it.Stratics does not have any official status with Broadsword. That went away. We are humbled that the link is still present on UO.com - and it does go to the Dev boards where Kyronix and Bleak do visit quite often.
The relationship between Stratics and Broadsword is something I am working on to re-establish while Ron Bron works on his new project. Not that Ron Bron has given up on Stratics - far from it! We just set up a dedicated server just for Stratics us which helps with security and other areas of concern.
To be brutally honest (something I am accused of a lot), with the hostility that's been pretty evident lately on the forums, I don't blame the Broadsword staff for not wanting to post. That, too, is something we at Stratics are working on taking care of. But that part also relies heavily on the community - everyone who posts here and reads the main website.
If people get to reading and notice a post that is off-kilter, violating our current Rules of Conduct, PLEASE hit that little "Report" link at the bottom of the post. That helps the Admin and Mod teams here at Stratics that something is amiss that we need to go look at and investigate. What would be even better.... is for people to stop and think before they post something that is questionable, off-topic or outright belligerent. I can say with full confidence the volunteers here at Stratics (which is all of us) would much rather spend our time adding more relevant content and helping new players or the devs with communications than go hunting down trolls and other ilk on the boards.
