Interesting antique affect

I put on some junk arties with mr/lmc to work provocation using bard songs. So basically I am standing all by myself, nothing attacking me or anywhere near that would attack me. I simply cast the bard spell again and again. Some of my arties were brittle and some antique. Both were full durability when I started. After a few hours the antique was 0/255 and the brittle was 255/255.



I have also noticed this with my VvV thief. He is never targeted or attacked but his Antique Crimson still loses durability when he is stealthing around and stealing sigils.

Interesting...

Which is precisely why I won't even bother picking that crap up. The only thing Antique is good for is unraveling to relic frags.

I'm pretty sure Antique is the same as ephemeral (durability loss over time, while in combat), except you're able to PoF it up to 3 times, assuming it's an item type that is allowed to be PoFed.

Which is why I also don't use antique items.

Yup. Antique Jewelry is more common than anything else with Antique. I hate it as well, but I will use it (on Jewels only) - I'm currently using an EP 25, HCI 15, 1/4, LRC 25, SSI 10 Ring (with some other mods that I don't need), and aside from having to repair it frequently (it's 175/215 dura right now), I love it.

Stealthing too? That's yet another reason I don't bother with antique, but I do get a lot with nice mods and should start offering them for sale.

antique is great. 1000 imbue weight on a jewel is something to definitely pay for since theres no other alternative (brittle is abundant in armor, but all jewels are brittle to start out with) All about how much disposable UO income you have to make your character better, and even better if you loot it yourself. Personally i wouldnt spend alot for antiques, but the 25-50m range has been doing it for me. Havent replaced a single thing, but i also dont play hours a day. Even if i did play daily and they wore out in a month it would still be ample time to find a replacement. Im thinking tho that for my playstyle these jewels will probably last till i call it quits on UO.

People spend big $$ on non-lasting things all the time irl. concerts. expensive restaurants. pets. even cars dont last forever if you use them daily. not even gonna get into "less than legal" entertainment. Antiques are a pixel fix just like anything else in the game and well worth it in my opinion. Its a reasonable tradeoff. Something you can use rather than just look at, but it has a limited lifespan.

It may be stealthing while carrying the sigil OR just carrying the sigil. Or it could be stealthing but I don't recall having the same issue when not doing VvV.

Yes that jewelry can't be PoF'd AND there is no brittle jewelry are the biggest issues I can see. But honestly my antique items last a long time on my PvP characters.

I have a question kind of pertaining to this post. Are clean"pre-patch" artifact jewels with no durability limit worth more now than before? As they will NEVER wear out.

And NONE of the people who don't like Antique PvP do they...... My Antiques will last YEARS PvPing 20ish hours a week... yea Total Crap..! LoL

Oh, I agree with the sentiment in those posts, don't get me wrong... Just I can also see how some pieces could be enticing, despite their relatively short life span.

I'm definitely not against a questy way to remove antique and brittle from items.

Agreed with the above. The VvV crimmy on my most used (non-thief) VvV character is 238/253 and he is used in other PvP situations besides VvV.

It all depends on play style like has already been said. If you spend the majority of your time on one or two characters on a single shard and play regularly (pvp or pvm) then your antique gear is going to break quickly. If you are the type that spreads your playtime across multiple characters and shards the stuff will last a very long time..

Is there a reason that jewelry without the Antique property is not able to be PoF'd? Seems like a bug to me honestly.

happened to.me with a throw away mana gen suit while training bushido on a golem.. don't go past 0/255 though.. won't start eating it down to 0/254 etc.. unless ur actually getting hit

What if you just ignore the zero durability when it gets there? How long will it last past zero? At some point does it just disappear?

on passive use..

example.. hitting a golem or wolf spider.. stuff like that... casting around at stuff... if you get hit then it will start ticking down if un repaired... 0/254... 0/253....

i think hes saying since this seems to be a bug that its possible that the loss is "hidden" and the item may just "poof" going from 0/255 to 0/0. no way to be sure tho unless someones tests of course.

Same thing happens with just a simple bard mastery song running. Figured that out a few days ago...lame. And the piece I was wearing up and vanished at 0/255.

oh ok i get it... no clue!! but i hit that damn horse with lightning strike for 12+ hours straight at work.. and still got the suit.. all 0-255.

i bet if you repair it will reset to 254/254.. or maybe drop to real value. ill repair the suit and see what happens

I haven't tested taking stuff below zero - but what if it's just a number and we can just ignore it? Then Antique wouldn't matter in practice. Just throwing out a thought here.

Going poof at zero rather than the usual warning about equipment needing repair? I'm even more glad I don't bother with Antique.

The majority of my suits all use antique, they do not just up and poof at 0/255 or 0/1-254. They will poof at 0/0. Please people stop posting when you have no knowledge of what you are posting about...I literally run certain jewels into the ground training and have yet to see a single one not behave properly...

Rather, I think it's that a 0/x dura Antique piece behaves as normal once it gets there - every time it takes "Damage", it'll go down one point of dura until it goes poof.

Again, I don't see how people post opinions when there are facts out there for everyone to read....

It's not Damage, it is based on use. When you Engage pvm OR pvp the items begin to lose durability, wether you are taking damage or not. Training Archery on a spider with an antique 10ssi brace? It will lose durability. Casting FS/WoD on a monster being tanked by a GD while using an antique brace? It will lose durability. Training Magery by casting spells on yourself or inanimate object? You will lose ZERO durability...

Also, if you let your piece get to 0/X with the 10x increased durability loss it won't just go down 1 durability at a time, it could go down as much as 10...

Please, guys read the patch notes. Everything is always there for you to understand, and if you don't understand ask a question. Don't just start throwing out a bunch of I think this is how it works...

Don't tell me what I don't have knowledge of. I've got better things to do than lie on a damn message board. I absolutely had an antique gargish ring disappear from my paperdoll at 0/255 . It wasnt hard to discover as my 100 lrc suit had dropped and I fizzled.

Why would your suit drop when a jewel breaks; do you mean you lost 100 lrc and could no longer cast??

How long was it at 0/255? because you probably ignored the 'Repair' signs and it was destroyed. Seeing as how you are the ONLY person to contest this idea makes me think this is true. Next time repair it as soon as you see it give you the message, or better yet, do as I do and repair it at 20-40...

A few points Old Vet.... if tour going to call people on their lack of knowledge you better be correct. Your not.
1) Antique will never lose 10 durability in one go. 4 at max
2) Antique hasn't been explained in detail from an official source (DEV)...

The 10 increased durabilty loss is probably from MY initial testing that I posted about but it is still just an average. Anyway.... for all we know when current durability hits 0 and you take further durability loss Antique COULD be bugged and not update MAX durability correctly....Thus it says 0/255 until it's actually hits 0/0 and goes poof...just saying it wouldn't be the first bug in UO. The major difference with Antique other than INCREASED durability loss is that you CAN lose durability without taking damage which is the odd part. Until I test it myself I'm willing to believe that without taking dmg it Antique will stay at 0/255 but it should only take a few hours spamming on a horse to see if Antique can disappear while still showing 0/255.... Anyway.... the point is its not a 100% clear subject so don't act like it is. I DO agree that Antique is VERY useful it's just a matter of understanding How it works enough to use it well...

with my example.. i was training bush on a horse in tram with a trash mana int suit... noticed was all 0/255 after a while...

after another while it stayed there.. so i did not bother to repair... a good six hours later all were still 0/255...

so i just 120 bush and put the suit on a mannequin where it still sits st 0/255... since i was not being hit i guess it just stopped at 0/255... and stuck there... which was fine with me since i did not wanna go on repair runs anyways.

I'm all about the antique stuff. Find a sweet piece with a bajillion mods and it lasts a prettttty good amount of time. I havent had one wear out yet.

If you think antique = junk and and you trash it or don't loot it, well, you are the one missing out on either good piece for one of your chars or a lot of gold.
