Promoting your shard, what do your shard offer, what is worth to see

All shards want more players and to keep UO players playing, we need them to have something to do.
I will tell a little about, what my shard can offer to someone visiting it, then you tell about your shard offer to a new player or a visitor. What is worth seeing, are there player events going on or anything that could help a new player choose your shard.

Visit Siege Perilous

Siege is different from the other shards in many ways and you can't transfer to it.
You have to start with a new char, you can only have one char on an account but as many soulstones you can afford.
You can start with an advance or mythic char token or do it the good old way. Keep in mind, NPC Vendors on Siege are lazy, they do not train skills and do not buy items and do not sell most resources. They also want 3x as mush for what they do sell.
Now you may say, how would I be able to make it on Siege, there are no kind of recall, I can't buy, craft and sell to vendors and there are PK's everywhere on Siege as there are no Trammel.

I can only say, give it a try, visite us, we do alot to make it easier for you.
First we need to solve the problem with traveling, we have 4 ways of traveling.
1. Public moongates, here you can start in the one behind bank west Bank of Britain but we all know, they don't get you everywhere.
2. Crystal Portal and Corrupted Crystal Portal, they will take you to any bank or dungeon. you may not have a set or a house to place them in, no problem, you will find them in a lot public houses, just look for them.
3. Public teleporters in houses. You can get around on Siege very well with using them together with crystal portals and public gates.
4. Gates casted with Magery. For a new char, that's not an option and a warrior may not have the magery to do it.

Now where to start yout trip. Make your char in Britain take the gate to New Magincia, this town do have most a newbie need.
The community and stall vendors will buy, what you can gathrering and sell you a beetle. If no in stock, try join Gen Chat and ask for help.
The houses do have good vendors and there are at least 2 public Hubs in the town, one 2 houses from the dock and Young Travelers Inn at the cove north of the bank. In houses around the cove, you will find public dye tubs, seed box and Davies Locker, soulforge, training dummies, crystal portals and alot more.
Now start exploring the public teleporters and see where they goes too and that the houses offer. Some houses are near dungeons, some near other places.

Now you may fear this teles are traps and will bring you in the hands of all the PK's, all tells live on Siege. Just traveling with nothing and you will see, the rumers are not true, however be careful with Luna, but even Luna are getting more nice.

Also be careful if you hear wisp sound, run before it see you. We have some nasty Dark Wisps on Siege, they kill more newbies than PK's do and they may res kill and guard your corpes too. Only one good thing with them, they have no hands, so they can't loot.

If you should fall in love with our shard, you can place a house, without losing your Prodo shard house but if you stop playing, don't leave a dirt plot on Siege, leave the plot to someone who will use it and play on our shard.

Also keep eyes on the Siege Forun, there may be player events going on.

We look forward to See you on Siege

Since you haven't said anything about RoT, has this been dropped on siege?
No but the daily cap is gone and with easier access to pink scrolls SoT, RoT is more a feature than a slowdown. Just play the game and you will gain when time.
Now I look forward to see posts about other shards, as this thread are not only about Siege but to help all slow populated shards.

Well Legends has wide open spaces. Anyone can place a keep. Castles aren't out of the question if you work at it a little. It's nice and quiet without hardly any nonsense. PvP trash talk is rare and usually lasts under a minute :) But our greatest resource is EM Avalon who is on frequently and likes to chat with the players. She is a wealth of information about the game and Legends in general. If you like a quiet shard without all the drama this is it. After playing a busy shard like GLs or Atlantic, Legends is like a vacation at the cottage. I started on Legends cause I wanted a castle and would probably never see one on GLs or Atlantic. Figured I'd play my main and visit Legends every now and then. Haven't left Legends since I started playing there. A very relaxed server. I have noticed an up tick of new players lately, nothing massive but a couple here and a couple there. I think the secret is getting out :)

Atlantic!! Think of.it like a paradise. Most players.and you can get anything.

The Capitol shard. The shard of shards. Where you see people and they will gank you and talk smack.

Love it.. hate it... lag cuz your across the world oh well!!

Atlantic where dreams come true.. and you might get a house... maybe not.max.. maybe no keep or castle.. but you could!! one day... over the rainbow or if you sell your mother for gold.

Atlantic.. where what happens there stays there just like Vegas.

*im sure someone could write.a review better lol.. mine is mire for humor*

Vote for Europa because of community. A lot more less people than on Atlantic but i feel like it is more crowded than Atlantic. All because of great community.

But if you are after buying items empty shards are not best place. But of you wish to be seller, empty shard always need good shops and those are crowded there as far as i noticed.

I would also consider technical aspect: ping - the difference between 120ms and 60ms is huge in terms of battle.

I have my heart in two shards Lake Superior and Siege. At the moment Siege is my home, so let me tell you what I have learned since moving here. The people are the best part of Siege. Ask for help and they will give it to you. If you are new they will past the word and you won't be pked even if you see a red. Yes the dark wisp will kill the newbies, I died more to them the first day than I can count.

You should come visit, so many of the players leave their homes open with tons of things to use just as Freja said. Not only are they open but they welcome people to visit. The Gilfane guild has some of the most beautiful homes I have seen anywhere, they are located near Skara and are a must see if you love house design.

Lots of people have some amazing homes with rares on display and since nothing can be transferred off Siege all server birth and em event drops stay here.

Now for events, these guys on Siege have lots of player run events. I have never been on a shard where so many players are willing to host events to make the community for inviting.

Come hang out in Gen Chat check out the fun this amazing group of people have. You might find as I did you fall in love with Siege!!

Oh and I needed to add a couple more things. Guilds are very active on Siege, the guild I am in does something every night, from spawns, to lady mel and so on. They will also help each other like just last night one guildie said he wanted a dread mare and another told him what ever you need to make it happen I will help you. I know a lot of guilds are like that I have been luck to be in two that are that way and I can tell you its amazing.

The last thing I want to say about Siege is while it might not seem active because most people stealth around it is. Don't believe your eyes if you think no one is watching you!! Ohh that sounds stalkerish maybe it is, come to Siege and find out.

PvP on Baja has been picking up.
We usually see 6 v 6 v 6 every other week-night, and weekends are usually the same or greater(Saturday/Sunday nights).
$C$, SI, TBA, SiT! are all active.

I'm in SiT! and we are looking to get more players, Cartel has 12+ active, and TBA/SI play together with over 12 as well.
We usually have 5 readily available after 5pm, but we are a guild of Quality vs Quantity. :)
We gear our guildies, and use Ventrilo and Map...
We are all laid back guys looking for PvP. No ragers. No kids. No drama.
If you live in West-Central USA it's a great server for ping.

Hit me up on ICQ!

Good RP peeps I would suggest Catskills.

Playing with Lexi ( she is good peeps) I would suggest Baja.

Living on the edge, unless you have stealth, I would suggest Siege.

Chesapeake has some active and friendly guilds, and t's not hard to find a spot to place a good sized house. We still have active role play as well.

If I didn't live on the East Coast I'd be all over this. I guess I could give it a shot, but since I'd be pinging over 100, I hope you wouldn't expect too much. haha. I'll shoot you a message later.

I would recommend playing on the shard you get the best connection to.
Yep its very prosaic thing but if you for example want PvM it's so bad with long ping.. With 150ms i usually were dead before message about low life appeared. With 60ms ping i can always escape. Feels a lot more smooth and fun.

As long you don't have packed lose, I don't find 100-150 ping that bad but it may depend of your template and playstyle.
I started UO on dial up from Denmark, that was really bad as I had upto 300 ping and packed lose too.
I choose to play an Archer and can't Count the times, my bow saved my live when I lost con and come back to see a dead monster at my feets.
Also if playing a crafter, 100-150 ping won't be bad.
On Siege, we comes from all over the world and some do have worst ping than me. To me, our community and ruleset make it up for my 100 ping.

Can place a 18x18 any damn place you want (especially in Malas), Keep spots aren't uncommon, and even a couple Castle spots...

Cats FTW. The majority of east coast (and many west coast) RP'ers are there. PvP has been growing exponentially and there are 5-6 active guilds now including a recent large influx of offsharders from ATL, GL and Lake Austin.

Don't forget PvM out the wazoo. Cats is booming. Don't get left behind.

I play 90% siege and 10% legends. I left Atlantic because it became too crowded to do a lot of things.

Legends has an amazing EM. Avalon has great events, and I try to not miss them. Got my first and only EM drop from there (snazzy Dragon lantern). I meet a lot of regulars like Uriah during the last round of IDOCS and they are super nice. I would play more there but I've been busy on what has become my main shard: SIEGE PERILOUS!

Siege is the most fun I've had in UO since 2001. A real sense of community where after a few months you really get to know each other. Guilds are active, dupes are not an issue like on Atlantic, the General Chat is actually used for more than the middle school talk (again, like Atlantic), and if you catch someone being an ass, you have the full power to (try, anyway) kill them.

Gold and gains actually feel earned since no transfer is allowed. Without insurance, the entire pvp / VvV dynamic is different. Unlike prodo shards, Siege still has that sense of risk while playing. And it is surprisingly fun!

I believe we may have missed some shard here. Lets here more stories about why you play your shard, what make it special.

Atlantic, because there's always people around to talk to and do stuff with. I've visited most of the other shards, but after playing Atlantic so long I've accepted that I'm incapable of playing a less populated shard. It's like the New York City of UO....you either love it or hate it, but the people that love it end up staying there forever :)

I am with you there! My first character Willa was an archer.... and I'd go down in Shame... and she'd be shooting at stuff I couldn't even see yet. And then I'd lose connection finally get back in and she'd have a fresh pile of Earth Ele's at her feet to loot.

Catskills is probably now considered to be a medium populated shard. It has a thriving RP community and PvM community with PvP picking up a lot of steam!!!

Hardly no server crashes or server lag, and plenty of space for housing!

We also keep a very live and updated list of events on our forum, the most active FB page, and we have our very own radio station. It's the place to be!
