Idea for trade forums. 1 Month Banner.

It's pretty simple. Over the last couple months we have seen an onslaught of trolls create new accounts just to place fake bids. Many times before moderators are able to remove the fake bids the auction has already been derailed because the public still had no clue that the person was trolling.

As it is now we are able to visually verify an accounts age by banners that are achieved as the account age hits certain age milestones. We are also able to look at the user to see his/her creation date. I suggest that we all continue to do what we are doing by verifying this way as well as not accept bids from accounts that are less than one month old. The idea I have is to also add a one month banner to a user account once it has reached that milestone. We will still have players who will create accounts and grief bid a month later but it should give auctions some relief nonetheless.

What's the chances of adding this feature? Shouldn't be an awful lot of work but It will help the user base some.

If I sold something now I simply wouldn't except any bids from "Visitors"...... if someone doesn't usually hang out on stratics and wants to but an item it's not hard to get someone trusted to bid for them. Assuming they are legit that is.

Good idea, but can't you check the post count and account age of bidders already? Could the same thing be accomplished by stating in your auction rules that only users with x posts or x days of membership will be allowed to bid? The feature itself is very easy to add.

Yep I figured it would be pretty simple. We have been verifying their posts and age for awhile now. The banner would just simplify for bidders and save a few clicks as well as a little time is all.

They should add a 50 post min before you are allowed into that sub-section....end of issue.
Theres a few legitimate bidders that have less than 50 posts because they rarely buy things and never post on anything else, it's a good idea, but it could still exclude some legitimate people.

Another forum I use(non-uo) has a 150 post min before you are able to join the discussions on Politics and such which is where I got the idea from.

At the very least it makes people add something before they spam the boards, you want to use the site then add some content.

I've always used this site and forums as my go to for game research. Many of the postings of veterans I have read have given my a better knowledge base of the game. My only regret is not making a profile years ago. That being said in regards to the trade forums auction system, I would not be against a certain time limit implementation in regards to bidding on items. As I have the visitor tag still associated with my profile this my hinder me. But no more so than it's perception amongst veteran traders already does.

Nah, 50 post entry fee would do it. Easy, done and you don't have to waste the mods time.

^ but you are the Doctor. If K9 trusts you so do I.

Also If they could find a way to ban the person by IP who keeps posting lewd gifs late night that would be awesome, I play late night hate running into them when no mod is on to dispatch them with haste.

I'm not sure about the 50 post thing. Surely you will just get people posting crap to bump up the amount of posts just so they can bid.

There are a good few people who don't post much (maybe under 50 posts) but are legitimate buyers and sellers and this will only hurt them.

Moderation is the easy option. The other day I logged in and was pretty disgusted by some of the posts from that Mike guy. People ****ting on each other and stuff like that. It was on the forums for a good few hours before being removed.

Well also being new to the forums features I lack the knowledge to flag, or report post as well. Looked for the option yet was unable to locate it. *edit* Now I see the little yellow word that says report at bottom of all post, if it was a snake as they say!

I think that all of these ideas to display or automate what a persons character, trust level, or intentions via post count, etc is ludicrous. The first time a person is scammed by someone that the banner/display etc. says was trustworthy, the entire formula used to come to that conclusion will be suspect. In essence, the tool used to rate trustworthiness was in fact used to do quite the opposite. It was used to deceive people.

I think we simply need to admit that no one can be trusted 100% of the time. Second, every single trade you do has some level of risk to it, period.

Nothing will be fool proof, everything we create or make will be subject to manipulation. The most accurate information available to discern a person's character is his past, his reputation if you will. And even then, there is nothing to say that your trade is the trade where this person decides to sacrifice his reputation.

If you do not trust a person, demand to use a broker. If they wont, walk away, period!

Post count has nothing to do with a persons character, trust level, or intentions but everything to do with blocking them from using a dummy account to scam people or inflate a acution. If you could see that they have spammed in 2 days 50 postings it's a good hint but if they have taken 40 days to add a few posts here and there while wanting to use the trade forum that is different.

Missed the point bro. This is nothing to do with scamming. It's everything to do with the annoyance of people creating new accounts and posting fake bids with the sole purpose to derail an auction. If people are still being scammed in this game their morons. They wither trusted the wrong person, didn't verify that a broker was actually a broker over ICQ, handed something to someone first not using a trade window, took a file they shouldn't have and their suit dropped, gave someone their account info, etc. That's a whole other discussion though as this threads purpose isn't about scamming.
