Sampire Debate . . .

So I have heard that with vampiric embrace, you do not need Hit Life Leech on a weapon.. I always thought the weapon HLL would combine with the Vampiric Embrace spell..
can I get a definitive answer on this?

so what are you asking?
are you asking if it stacks?
or are you asking DO you need it on a weapon if in vamp form?
cause from my limited use the life leech in vamp form is crazy high and putting it on a weapon would be a waste.

Vamp Form
20% back per hit of the damage you are doing - on every hit (so if your hitting for 100 per hit your getting back 20HP - if your using a 1 sec weapon thats 20HP per tic)
15 Stamina regen
3 Mana regen
resistant to all but the highest levels of poison.

now couple that with parry and bushido so that you are deflecting most if not all of the incoming hits and the hits that are coming in your regenerating 20HP per swing plus the 15 SR and you dont have to worry about poison getting in your way.

i myself never got on the sampire bandwagon until a little while ago.
i must admit it takes some getting use to not constantly healing yourself with bandaids but once you figure out you dont need to its fun.

it doesnt stack. no benefit to having hll on a sampire

that being said, now that gear prices are very affordable, a bush-dexter with healing and life leech on weapons is relatively easy to do and much more effective overall than a samp. Usually requires 20 ssi on jewels, 100 damage increase on suit is a plus too.
I make my bladed staffs like this:
50hla
slayer or hit spell
100 mana leech
50 stam leech
75 mana leech

They work together, yes.
The hit life leech will trigger if you are on vampire form, and will leech some extra life, much akin to how casting curse weapon stacks with vampire form.
They are different effect, thus they will all trigger.

But there is no much point in having HLL if you are going with vampire form. You should be leeching enough life back just with it.

The toughest thing to get used to is staying toe to toe when you've whiffed a few times and your health is low. Your only chance to live is to stay in the fight and hope you hit in time. I've had my fair share of dirt naps from running away in the beginning only to see that fireball following you and death is imminent.

In addition to what has already been said, assuming you have Bushido on your template and atleast some Chivalry, you should be able to heal using Confidence and Close Wounds when necessary. Hitting Momentum strike or using a Whirlwind wep helps too, depending on how many monsters you have aggro'ed on you.

Otherwise, having HLL on a wep is a wasted mod if you intend on using Vamp Form.

LOL tell me about it. I've had that happen sooooo many times. Thinking I was going to die so ran away to heal. Get to a safe spot and cast close wounds only to be hit by a fireball that finished me off.

Yes HLL will not stack with embrace.. But while we are at it i had a debate about my sampire..a few months ago he had the classical skills 120swords parry bushido gm anat /tactics 99necro and the rest on chiv (jewelled it a bit on rings)
Like I said i changed my sampire to: 120swords, 120 bshido, GM tactics (thinking about droping chiv to raise it to 120) 99 necro, 101 chivalry, 60 parry and 120 Magic resist
some say that 60 parry is a waste and i dont have and anat etc..Well i die less with this template due to resist (ooooo those blood oaths hurt)..any of you have a similar template like mine?

Strongly disagree about them not stacking. Ill check a bit later but nearly positive they stack just as cursr weap does

Ive been playing with that exact build with the exception of dropping resist to 100 (which seems to work fine). Ill swap mr for anat for non casting mobs. Also like swapping anat/mr for spirit speak for cw use. Vamp plus curse weap gives massive heals.

i really dont think they stack. Curse weapon is a true drain, while vamp embace has always been mislabeled as a "drain" while in fact it functions as a leech. if you already have 100 percent life leech from vamp embrace, adding more will not go above that cap.

as with all things, best to test yourself. use a 100 life leech weapon while in vamp form and see if your overall heals, maybe average of 100 hits are significantly greater than with only vamp form.

On the note of whirlwind, one of the most OP ways to use a Sampire is the case of adding a Hit Area mod on a whirlwind weapon. For example:

Kama
50 DI
30 SSI (you might not even need SSI on a Kama, though)
50 Mana Leech
50 Stam Leech or a Slayer Mod, or something else
50 Hit Fire Area

When you whirlwind you can proc the Hit Fire Area on every target you hit, which ends up doing insane extra damage.

Yes, Whirlwinding with a Hit Area on there should leach back whatever life you need. Probably would only need to use Confidence/Close wounds in very rare occasions.

My template is as follows:

100 swords (120 with capt johns hat)
120 tactics
120 bushido
100 parry
80 chivalry
100 necro
100 resist (some more points on jewels)

I also have 100 anat on a stone that I used to switch out with parry and resist, but after some tests and trials I feel like the extra damage isn't really worth it. Especially if fighting a spawn with casters, I feel like Resist is really needed. Some people will say only 60 parry is needed, but if you have the right suit and weapons, you should be able to do enough damage that remaining points are better off put into a defensive skill.

The great thing about the sampire template is that it's very flexible. You can tweak it so many different ways to a specification that fits your play style.

My template is a little different:

120 Swords
120 Tactics
120 Anatomy
120 Bushido
100 Lumber
99 Necro
41 Parry / Resist

I understand 41 isn't much for either skill but even that little bit helps, and what else could I do with the points? My main weapons is a hatchet. I've got a series of them made with 100% elemental damage and various slayers. I'll also use a double ax with some type hit area for whirlwind.

I ditch necro entirely and use a 100 life leech broadsword or double axe. Frees up points to max out parry and damage skills.

Stack... really? Looking at it completely wrong. There are different effects.

They are two separate effects and yes, both of them can trigger off the same hit.

Effect one- Hit Life Leach (on weapon)
Effect two- 20% Life Drain (from vampiric embrace)

Hit life leach is a possible percentage of the damage you have done (you can get 0 back).
Life Drain from vampiric embrace is always 20%

The two effects work complimentary. You can also use curse weapon at the same time too.

Hit Life Leech on a Wep is pretty weak compared to the Life Drain of Vampiric Embrace/Curse Weapon. Vampiric Embrace guarantees 20% Life Drain, and Curse Weapon guarantees 50% Life Drain (which stack for 70% Life Drain). Hit Life Leech though only has a random range based on the % on your wep. This explains Hit Life Leech, "Amount of Hit Points Leeched". http://www.uoguide.com/Hit_Life_Leech

Now, back when AoS first launched, Hit Life Leech functioned exactly like Hit Life Drain, which is what made my Necro/Swordsman so damned hard to kill back then in PvP. I used Vampire Form, Curse Weapon, and Breath of the Dead (which has 100% Hit Life Leech), so whenever i hit something, i regained 170% of that damage back as health. Between that leeching, my bandy healing, and SS healing, it took an entire gank squad to kill me. They nerfed Hit Life Leech though over several patches to bring it to the state it is in now.

Not only that, but if you have a Slayer Talisman on, the Slayer effect applies to the Hit Area on the wep, dealing double damage to targets vulnerable to that Slayer.
I use a 100% Cold Damage Double Axe with 50% Hit Cold Area/Battle Lust/30% SSI/50% Stam Leech/50% Dam Inc, and wear a Fire Slayer Talisman for farming the Lava Caldera Mini-Champ spawn, and the Hit Cold Area does double damage to the Lvl 1 and 2 Spawn so long as i wear the Fire Slayer Talisman.
