Is there still something going on in UO (Europe & Drachenfels)

Hi there!
I saw that UO is still living. Now I want to come back to my first MMO.
I played UO between 1999 and 2004. I was playing on Drachenfels & Europe.
I really loved this game. Loved it to make a beautifull home. Loved it to hanging around the bank.
Try to find a place for a home for hours.
Killed a lot of cows to make leather.
And so on.

I started a Trial Account just to have a look and I was very sad that I didnt see a lot of people...
The game is really emty, isnt it?

Is there still something going on in this game?

Dont want to play alone.

I try to recover my old accounts. Hope this will work, dont remeber Accountname, Password or E-Mail... But I still have the original CD´s with the codes.

Population ism't what it was but there are still people playing there. Luna is the new WBB. There is also in-game chat which will help you find others. When you first start, you are in the help channel, just go to the general channel and I am sure you find plenty of people on and talking. Welcome back!

Come to Europa shard 7 to 8 CET , West Brit Bank, and you will find a bunch of banksitting people. We meet there every night to greet new and returning players. We chat, make friends answer questions , repair and eat pizza! Welcome! Also compared how it was when you left you dont see crowds anywhere. Lands are huge, and people spred out and busy. We have vendor search so most people dont spend time browse vendors. Chat channels takes care of lots of the trading as well . Lots of store houses are gone , people need less accounts to get bods and store them etc so there are other reasons than player numbers that adds to the empty look.

I had a look on Atlantic. There are really still a lot of people. But I have a little lag there... Latency isnt so good.

What happend to Fellucca? Isnt there any Playerkill? For me it´s ok, because don´t love the PVP.
Love farming, decorating my Home and sitting around the Bank.

I hope Origin can help me getting back my old account.
I forgot some special I had in the past. I was getting married. That was really cool. The GM was doing this, but they stop this service.
Also I remeber some special event. I often was around Vesper. There stand´s a kind of stone. You had to find out a riddle and a lot of Monsters was there. Also this was in the early time I played there.

Willkommen zurück auf Drachenfels, Dhakiyah!

Don't let the "emptiness" fool you... WBB on Drachenfels is well visited in the evening hours, also try Luna or the general chat to find people to chat and play with (maybe not yet possible for you on a trial account, there are restrictions). There is also a big alliance of player guilds (around 100 guilds by now I think) which are connected through the Ally chat.

Player weddings are still possible, but they are held today by EMs (Event Moderators). They also create events for players every month (see also EM Website of Drachenfels: http://drachenfels.uoem.net/?lang=de).

Drachenfels is dead as a dodo. It was my first shard and I played there for a long time from Jan 2000 but several years ago due to the ghost town Drach was turning into I transferred all 12 of my characters across to Europa which has a much healthier population.

If youre not going to PvP and ping isnt quite as important then I ping ok to the east coast so Atlantic is an option but good luck getting a house there.

Yep. I forgot to say that Drachenfels is definately NOT Atlantic, and that this a very good thing...

Dead as a dodo? Tzk. Come visit us again, but consider GMT+1 timezone, then you will not be disappointed.

I play GMT and its not my idea of multiplayer. Granted Atl isnt my idea of fun either but I still like enough folk around to make it seem like a living thriving world. Drach doesnt give that feeling. I know its not a fully direct correlation but take a look at the Drach stratics forum. Two posts in the last four months says it all. Maybe not dead as a dodo but players there are definately an endangered species.

Yes make a character and visit each shard to decide where you like.

I play on Atlantic because I like to see lots of people around and the busyness of it. I also play Europa as I get a better connection being in Europe myself. Remember your not limited to just one shard.

euro is a little more fuller than drachs deffo...so if u r looking for house...

u can have a castle on drachs for free....a few castle spots free to choose from...u can buy too 2-5m
on europa no castles free...prices 50-300m...but u can place get a easy keep for free- loads spots free

Yes quite. People who have a well liked 'home' shard seldom give impartial advice. Everyone loves their own shard. As someone who has played both shards my advice isnt based on favouritism, merely facts. A visit to both shards will bear out which has the larger active population.

Also what does the OP want. The ability to place several castles or a multiplayer game?

I dont like the Castle.
I love the Tower and the Two-Story Houses. Hope I will get one.
A good Point for Drachenfels is not to get a Castle. It´s do find other German speaking People.
Also the latency is a point to get to DF or Europe.

I still like enough folk around to make it seem like a living thriving world.

And what happend to Felucca?
Is there anywhere a statistic how many people are online on the shards or how many active accounts there are?

People still live there and there are some nice bonuses for playing there. There is bonus luck, double resources, champ spawns with power and stat scrolls, VvV, etc. There are players there besides PvPers but they are spread out.

Unfortunately not, there are no statistics other than at login when it tells you low, medium etc. EA hasn't posted the amount of active accounts in many, many years. You will get a lot of speculation on it but there is obviously enough to keep the doors open and lights on.

...probably because its just not the place to post in all those other languages than english here, thats why!

And thats exactly the reason too because nobody is posting messages to the Drachenfels Stratics Forums because it doesn't support all the different languages which are spoken and active on Drachenfels! (see above)

To make it easier for you and clear: English is not the only language spoken in UO and especially not on european shards, as soon as you realise this, then things gets easier for you...

And it really broadens your horizont like crazy... try it out some day, it doesn't hurt (too much)

I did say the forum wasnt necessarily a direct correlation to shard population, but it is an indication. People can be very tetchy and overly defensive about their own shard when the facts staring them in the face are that its desolate.

Any shard where you can freely place castles at will is a shard in a desperate state.

Yes of course youre right. After playing drach for around 8 years it was just my imagination that the population had dropped through the floor. All those empty house spots must have been an illusion. And im sure that over the last 7 years since I left that the population has increased ten fold. Dont believe a word of those who say you can place castles there. Oh and of course Europa couldnt possibly have more players than Drach could it. /end sarcasm
