Original UO Music

I recently downloaded the original music (mp3 conversion from MIDI), and was wondering if there is a way to import it into the game to sync with certain locations and situations. Some website suggested copying the music into the Digital directory in UO and give it the same file names as what is currently in the digital folder (and of course removing the newer music). This did not work. When I relaunched the client it starting patching so I removed the older sounding music. Anyone have any suggestions? Or is this out of the question?

Also, it seems that the "original" music I downloaded may have been altered a bit. Differs from what I thought it was supposed to sound like. I think this is the original Stones song and it sounds like what I remember:

One reason the old Ultima music was so fitting was because you spent so much time exploring - walking from city to city, walking around cities talking to characters - so the music set the atmosphere. I loved hearing Stones while walking through the forest in Ultima 6. I don't get that sense of exploration, mystery and wonder in UO. Generally you teleport into a place, fight or farm and teleport back home. I'm not sure how they would work in the old music in any meaningful way.

have you tried to take a music box in game and play stones off of there while your out and around in game?

New, up to date renditions of this old music would be great. The last music to come out I believe was AoS and it was mostly 30 second jingles that would loop over and over. The old music.... even at midi quality, was much better.

Hah yes only until recently I started playing the original music via a music player while in game. Nostalgia I guess. But as I mentioned I was hoping to find a way for the client itself to trigger the original music under certain in game situations. I'm not expecting the Devs to change anything in the client to accommodate this, just curious if it can be done by altering either the .mp3 file names or the config file located in the music/digital directory.

There are certainly good variations of the original Stones song I appreciate, but like many I want to be taken back to 98' sometimes. Am I weird? Definitely and I'm cool with that.

Thank Forgotten Gaming for uploading the music on Youtube for this gem. I found the supposed original music off of a simple Google search, but as I mentioned I don't think its actually the original. I do think the version on Youtube is the original, but I could be wrong.

You used to be able to edit this text file which had all the music files listed. It was basically a numerical list with each number corresponding to a region in-game or a situation (in combat mode, for instance). You could just place your own MP3s into the music folder and alter this list to play what you wanted. I wasn't really a fan of the combat music, so I put I put some Conan MP3s in there for battle. I haven't tinkered with this in years, however. These days I have my Ipod playing or fire up one of those streaming music sites.

If you go in to your program files find EA and your Ultima online folder, you should see a music folder. Just replace each .mp3 with what you want. So if you wanted stones for the intro, you would replace the loginloop file with stones(renaming stones to loginloop) That should work.
Edit: This is for Classic client, not sure about Enhanced.
