Alchemical devistation issues

Why do the alchemical devastation bracers not work with wrestling? I have 120 wrestling and even tried it with a fishing pole. Not a single lightning strike hit my guildy and I literally punched him to death just to make sure they weren't few and far between.

You have to be bare- handed for them to work. No shields and no fishing poles! I do believe you can equip a spellbook though. A shame, really, these are ALMOST an awesome item.

cant use with parry, any item in your hands that work with parry will make bracers not work. they are good for a thief

ok so if i have wrestle but no parry and wear a shield they should still work with an empty hand correct?

no they dont work with shield. honestly this is kinda a fail item on the part of the devs. seeing that the hitspell was originally fireball really just shows how little they know about how items play out.

they "should" work with shield too, it should be fixed. at the moment its only confusing, and allowing a shield would not upset any balance...

Ok so no matter if my parry is at zero it will absolutely not work with a shield equipped? That is a horrible flaw and should be handled. I was under the impression these were designed to give wrestlers the hit spell ability... Most wrestlers don't wear a book and instead wear a shield for the obvious disarm reasons.

Can we get a mod to move this to the Ask A Dev section. I feel like this needs to be addressed and quite frankly surprised that this has not been posted yet. Even if this is it's designed intent I feel it's something we should all at least know and be aware of.

In order to use them effectively you have to have a suit with DCI and HCI already built into it with jewelry and items that give the 45/45 cap. It CAN be done, I have done so, but the results were disappointing to say the least and my bracers went back into the box full of junk my house. If you could use them with a shield equipped they would be awesome for wrestlers and you would see this item being highly sought after.

You would think that if a dexxer can wield a weapon with 70% hit lightning then a wrestler should be able to use them with the 35% or 40% hit spell without causing too much of a fuss. A shame, such an item would be really exciting to use from time to time. :(

Yeah after doing some tests you can only utilize them without a shield on. Which makes them completely useless. Any pvper with wrestling will pick a shield 9/10 times just to avoid the disarm.

Bah, just make so you can disarm shields again. I recall testing that out and loving it with my disarm thief...la

Nothwithstanding you seemed to have been in a guard zone, your victim was foolish for not insuring it. Not only were the spell channeling and faster casting properties not introduced until AoS, that paragon artifact didn't exist until 2004 (Publish 27).

I have no idea when that was stolen. I just remember that the minute I heard rumors that using the disarm skill could disarm a shied into the pack of the player...I ran out and tested it on the first player I ran into.

Sure enough, it worked...so I went on a shield stealing rampage, lol.

Yes, they were in the guard zone (at the Jhelom gate if I recall) and as far as insurance, of course there wasn't insurance on the shield...I play on Siege...la

Ah, Siege. Was he asleep that you attacked him right in the guard zone?! I was never that brave with my thief, who I converted after the implementation of insurance.

Some people are not ready...other think it's safe to go afk in a guardzone. I like to prove it's not. Especially when I was testing out the ability to disarm steal a shield...la

this thread has raised a interesting question that ive wondered for a while.
i have a mage that has 120 wrestling on him - from years ago - other then that hes just a normal mage, magic/eval/med/resist and i think some hiding and focus.
i was tossing around the idea of tuning him back up for the field.
but the question is, to be a disarm mage what do i need for skills to go with the wrestling?
i dont need tactics to use the specials, but i had heard of people running anat or parry?

so do you need to run anything special on a disarm mage or can you just run him with wrestle?
or is it worth i to run tactics or anat or parry?

i had heard that a parry mage was fun against dexxors cause you could stand toe to toe with them and disarm them.

and i know i asked this like 10 years ago but are wrestlers affected by SSI?

A disarm mage is pretty useless as you need to fit 45 hci into your suit to make disarm worthwhile. Even if you hold disarm long enough and actually get it off, the person usually just runs after that.

Parry/wrestle mages are the best option for countering 210 stamina archers and splintering weapons but the downside is you need to make room in your skills for dexterity.

Skills to incorporate into a pure mage temp (depending on the equipment you can afford): alchemy, parry, inscribe, poison (drop meditation down and get two of these skills)

So I could go no shield and have a spellbook in my hand and have a chance at using this?

35% free lightning isn't the worst on my nox scribe mage.

You could, but as Blitz said above, the effort to get 45 hci & dci on a competitive mage suit and then risk having your spellbook (which you likely rely on to get max sdi and maybe casting) disarmed make it less than desirable. The only way these things are good (and worth the effort needed to get them) is with a shield.

100 anatomy is basically in the place of 120 wrestle. paired with 120 eval it gives the same defense minus the specials.

if your actually going to use wrestling, you need hci. which can actually be done rather easily with the new gear available.

ya i revamped my suit last night and was able to hit HCI43 and DCI45 with little to no effort with just the suit.

so i guess maybe then ill put on parry and give that a whirl.

but with parry ill have to use a shield and i guess that will then nullify using these arms that we where talking about, eh?

Let's necro this post in light of the upcoming changes! Are there any suitable artifact/jewel combos for this template? Is it too much of a stat sacrifice to use glads collar and bane legs on a mage suit? Maybe that 2/3 10 HCI Venom I have lying around has a use now?

Are there any differance using alchy bracers with wrestle compared to anat+eval combo? Both with 120 and 45 hci ofc.
As anat+eval is mainly for evading blows (defensive) and Alchy bracers need successful hits to trigger... anyone knows?

I'll transfer over to TC today and try it out.

I messed around on TC punching earth elementals and here's what I found:
  • The hit lightning works both with wrestling and eval/anat, but is obviously much more effective with wrestling--even at 80 dex, I just wasn't hitting that often with eval/anat.
  • With 0 HCI the lightning is a rarity, but at 45 HCI the hit lightning goes off quite a bit.
  • I was using a set of 40% bracers (non-reps), Kasa of the raj-in and Enchanted Kelp Leggings and doing between 23-29 points of damage per lightning strike. In contrast, at 120 eval/magery on the same template casting the Lightning spell on the same earth elementals does an average of 14 damage.
  • Increasing SDI (in my case, equipping a 30sdi invasion spellbook) increases the damage of the hit lightning (in my case, to an average of 36).
  • If eval affects the strength of the lighting spell on the bracers, it does so in a negligible amount and I was unable to tell much of a difference-- my averages were very similar after setting eval to 0.
  • The VVV Order shield seems well suited to this build, as it doesn't have the fc penalty and has 15 hci/15 dci.
  • The bracer's hit lighting does not interrupt the stun punch weapon special if it hits at the same time.
Anyone find something I didn't, or get a chance to play against other players on TC? Overall, I'm pretty happy with the results.

how fortuitous is this change!

just last week i made a new suit for my 120 parry wrestle mage WITH the arms in the suit!
its a very neat little template.
while im not the best pvp mage i was having a hell of a lot of fun against dexxers!
now with this change ill get a little spark action going off 1/3 of the time, thats a bonus!
