Keying DH

So, I've decided that I want a crimson cincture, and since I've never done a peerless before (17 year account, but took basically from 06-14 off, just {probably stupidly} kept paying) I decided to give it a try.

A few caveats. Today was the first time I ever even went into the weald, so I've never seen him keyed before to know what to do.

I need some tips though...

So, gnaw is easy as pie, the hardest part is not dying of boredom waiting for him to repop.

The rest though, gives me trouble. After a few tries I finally got into the spiders lair, and managed to kill the Guile that was camping there... but then the spiders spawn so fast that I can't loot, gotta pay attention to other things. I'd gladly add the items to my looter organizer, but that requires me to HAVE one so I can target it.

Is there some trick to the changelings? They're like, super doppelgangers... they seem to copy my leech effect from vamp form, but not the same vulnerability to undead slayer. Nice trick. AIs would be nice, but its hard to isolate them so that you can EoO, and can't leech enough mana otherwise.

Am I missing something?

I tried invis potions, but every time I used one, kept breaking my invis for some reason, but I was irunning for my life, so not sure why exactly.

:/

I feel like this would be SUPER easy with a bard as support.

Also, I would GLADLY pair with someone, and key it a half dozen times in 30 minutes or whatever... but I play in EU timezone, so I'm in bed before most Americans are home from work.

Here's what I do. I get the gnaws fangs first, then lure guile and spite into gnaws cave and use the greater confusion potion to break aggro and run out of there. Then I can isolate irk, once I've concluded my business with him I lure him away from the spider spawn and break aggro. Then focus on the spiders. Hope that helps. I think youay have my icq, I'm off work Tuesday through Thursday and play Atlantic currently. Message me.

Back when everyone used to run 120 parrying it was recommended you wear a shield for Irk so you could actually hit the changeling. With 60 Parry it probably isn't as important, but it may help you land blows since irk will copy your char's skills and equipment setup.

I assume you mean if you have 120 parry DON'T wear a shield? I do run parry, and I did think of that already when I noticed him parrying my swings. It still seems to work.

Does it make sense to take that 1 step further, and go in bare-handed until he copies you, then equip your weapon and start swinging away?

Not really, you could just disarm him and save putting yourself in a defensively weak position to start with. Also I don't know if this is the same with changeling based monsters, but in the past where monsters have had a weapon and you disarm it they still hit, and in many cases hit even harder, because they still use wrestling primarily and are not limited to the base damage of the weapon. (They may copy your weapon but [rtty sure they don't copy suit mods.)

DO wear a shield so a changelink doesn't parry (after copying your skills and equipment).

It copies your every a few (1-2?) seconds so this trick doesn't work.

I don't really worry when I fight changelings but against Travesty I use a shield. Without a shield it blocks too much (when it gets my Bushido) ... and I even don't have any parry skill. It seems it has its own parry.

Ahhh HAH. Seems the trick is honor yourself, then you can walk in, lure Spite and Guile out of the way, confusion blast them, and have your way with Irk and the spiders.

Now if only Sabrix didn't drop her thing 2x as often as Lissith.

if you have bushido, wear a shield (shield negates parry when used with bush) if you dont have bushido, dont wear a shield for them.

personally i dont bother on the shield thing and just am careful to get 1 at a time, and always have resist spells when doing that area. if your having a ruff time with mobs clumping up, honor yourself and just target one and lure it away by iteself.

It's also a good idea to use a 100% cold weapon while keying dh. Especially if You don't have resist spells - named changelings can drain your mana so often that You can't count on AI chaining. I use a sampire there and don't even bother to lure Spite or Guile away. I just kill them until they spawn in safe location. I am fine if i don't get 3 named changelings on me - if so i use confusion blasts. If i fight one of them it's even better if more mobs come - i switch attack on anything came and use momentum strike to hit changeling harder.

I have found after some time, keying with a samp is very difficult. Without a doubt the best way to key DH is with a bard. 120 peace 120 music 120 provo 120 disco 120 magery 120 eval. Easy as pie. Gnaw no brainer. Spiders at 120 provo is like 99% success rate. named changelings just area peace, disco, ev them, keep peacing them and they fall quick. I have found this method so effective that I usually can get between 5-10 sets of keys in two hours. Or you can always melee them but in the weald things get out of control very quickly. My two cents
