Gaining Tactics on a thrower? Acid slimes or AOL?

This is also what I did... lots and lots of Highland Bouras! Got me a nice pelt collection while I was at it. This took me all the way to 120 Throwing, 120 Tactics, and 120 Anatomy all while training my weapon skill.

I have been training throwing on an AOL. Initially, I forgot that I needed at least 70 throwing so I tried for awhile at 50 without any gains to throwing. But I did gain in anat and tactics. They went from 0 to mid-twenties. After securing some throwing jewels, I resumed my training and have gained to 90+ in throwing and anatomy. But tactics has remained at 25.1. The skill is set to up so there should be gains. I have plenty of extra points below the 720 max also. Any ideas why I am not gaining tactics?

Go to New Haven, spend 400 gp for 40 Tactics. Then do the accelerated gains quest until 50. At which point you could throw on +30 simple Imbued jewels and golem train it to cap.

Thanks. I knew about New Haven to 50, but just didn't bother, because the tactics gains were not crucial. And same for the golem. I have tactics on another character that I can take when needed. More curious as to why no gains since 25.1. Why did it stop and not resume?

You have to be within a certain range of the targets skill.

At 25.1 you're mainly likely to gain off forest animals.

Put on a couple thousand luck and go kill trogolodytes in Fel... you might even get a useful piece of EQ or two for your trouble.

25.1 would be the very old skill stopage bug, you need to jewel it above 32 or so to see it rise again.

That was my understanding also, which caused some surprise when I gained on the ogre lords in the first place. But then it stopped after I skilled up and never resumed.

It seemed to be around that 25 mark, I just buy the skill above 30's and it never stalls.
