I thought they was working on that like 3 years ago. Did I miss a post on it maybe? Would be Kool to somehow make smaller pets stronger or have some different colored dragons.

Supposedly it's on the "list" of things they want to do "in future". Soon™ I'm sure.

Pet dyes as rewards for Underworld puzzles were also on the drawing board. We wanted nuanced, not single solid colored dyes, that faded over time and needed to be replaced.

The best time I ever had in UO was on Test Sosaria in 2004-2005? We had so many differently hued pets, some quite shocking. Black with blue sparkles. Neon pink. Glacial blue with red underbellies. ( I called those Slushies.)

I had a light pink psychedelicly hued pack beetle, thanks Leuorician, designer of Ilshenar if I remember correctly.

How to make Ilshenar better he asked as the character Farmer Underhill?

I said we need PS. This was test before set skills, we had to do champs to get above 100 skill.

He said PS Fel only, so I said, can you dye my pet black with green sparkles? Pink swirls was what he dyed it and it trumped black with green sparkles. (Obviously I wasn't the most helpful tester on Test Sosaria.)

:)

I miss you Test Sosaria! (Now Origin.)

"Soon" would be the standard answer there I'm afraid. In UO time I've come to learn that soon can be anywhere from couple of weeks to a couple of years.

Loads of things the dev team have said are "on the radar" and coming soon.

High res artwork.
Getting UO on steam.
New player "experience".
An actual website that explains how to play the game.
Updating the OFFICIAL UO website to show correct and current information.
New in game currency system and removal of cheques.
Safer way to trade.

etc etc...

I'm not moaning. I still love the game and play whenever I can. I just don't see why the mention all this stuff and tease us when its obvious by now its not coming for F###### ages.

Two fairly simple changes would really help smaller pets IMO:

1) Have magic resist work like it does with humans, if you have GM you have a natural base 40 in all resists. This would REALLY help pets with 100-200 hps take a hit or two.

2) Don't cap pet stats like players stats, have them continue to increase untill they reach max for their species, ie the highest possible stats they could spawn with. This would cut out the frustrating process of trying to find the "perfect" wild creature to tame. Have it require items, or take a long time, whatever, just make it possible.

After that add in some more tasty treat like items that aren't so difficult to get your hands on, add in a bunch of new critters across the board in taming difficulty, and maybe adjust some of the old ones, balancing out stat caps/resists, possibly giving them special attacks or something.

It would be a project for sure, but I think taming is long over due for rebalance and new options.

pet dyes? ya no thanks, pink and purple dragons running around would be bad eye sore, pink and blaze colored cu side is already a big enough eye sore, But it would really awsome if we could tame Frost Dragons

I'm against dyes. I'm for different colors in spawning monsters, but no neons or nonsense like that. Just colors that make sense. Like different shades of grey in dire wolves, different reds and browns in dragons etc.

pet re-work yes. I would like to see the white wyrm usable again and the same for nightmares and other wasted tames. I even would like new pet colors.

I'd like to see a major Pet Revamp. I want to see Dread Mares back in the lands. Permanently. I'd like to see the Vanguard back... they can have a spot in Illsh or something.... now that Blackthorns Castle is destroyed you could put the Vanguard up there. With their awesome TAMABLE dreads. Also we could have the Bane have a home. Find a nice spot for them. Perhaps in lower Despise... they are banes afterall.... along with Bane Dragons... Yes Tamable...

I also want to see more spiders added to the list of tamables, Dread Spiders, Black Widow spiders the Sentinal Spider from the Underworld... I'd like to see pet Parrots that sit on your shoulder but will fly up and attack what you tell them to. Or they could "fetch" gold or something off your kills. Be good for "Pirates". They should say stuff like "Pieces of 8" and "Walk the Plank"... random like. Would be fun. Trained Falcons that do the same thing sort of but don't speak but sit on your arm and go kill things for you.

I want to see some tamable and ride-able large cats, Tigers, Lions.... which like the cows and deer should spawn in a "Pride" one male with 4 or 5 females. These would be awesome. We have big dogs we can ride I want big cats. Fairy Dragons!!!!!! These need to spawn somewhere we can tame them! There are spots in Ter Mur that they could exist...

I'd like to see Green varieties of Dragons, Red variations, Brown variants, Blue variants... Keep the colors subtle though... nothing neonish... And for the love of the gods please don't just "dip" them in paint... just color the parts that aren't the underbelly. I HATE to see stuff dipped in paint... it's gross... looks horrible.

And I agree let them gain in stats to max out. Working up a pet should be fine... and please consider allowing us to give our pets powerscrolls. I don't see why they can't gain up skills just like we do. If I want to drop a 120 power scroll on a dragon that would otherwise be stuck at 108 then I don't see why I shouldn't be allowed to..... after-all some naturally have as much as 130 magery... so boosting something up shouldn't be bad.... but they have to "have" the skill you want them to raise first. You can't give a horse 120 magery. But you could gain it's wrestling up to 120. This would not only bring use and value to the +20 wrestling scrolls but it would give a much needed boost to many pets. Maybe you wouldn't see so many greater dragons at every EM event.

Also let us see "all" our pets skills and abilities. Please look at the Reptalon and Skree..... these things must have drawn the short stick when they were created as their slot value is no where NEAR equal to their worth.... they are 2 of the worst pets ever... Even fully trained they are pathetic. They could use some love.

Also... is there some way we could bring flight back to tame dragons? I used to love just watching my dragon fly behind me... Yes I know some folk used them to fly into other people's houses but there has got to be a better fix for this than to cut the wings of my pet... I want to see him fly again. I miss it so much.

And for pity sake could you please put the other 2 legs back on my swamp dragon in the EC?!?!? He's supposed to have 6 legs ..... not 4! I want his legs back!

Here is my tamers standard routine..tame some cu/drakes turn in for points at zoo, farm some cash(random hunt)to pay for some powder of fort, stable pet, log out. Been doing this now for Yearrrrrrrs! Bored to death. I have 4 legendary tamers one on another shard even.

Nothing new to tame, my old pets are not so spry and cant keep up to a GD......and so on
taming is old and stale!

A major taming package would spice life back into the game. Done right it could cross into crafting/questing/collecting/group hunting and/pvp/ scroll popularity would increase and so much more....

Before they do a pet revamp, they need to re-define what role a tamer plays in UO (ie how they play as a group vs how they play solo) and what makes them unique besides controlling a pet that requires taming. Warriors, crafters, spellcasters, and even bards have had more changes/improvements in the past 5 years than tamers. Considering that it takes 300+ skill points in a template and taming is one of the hardest skills to tame, shouldn't there be some reward in raising a skill(s) to legendary? I think the pet's power level should be adjusted/scaled to how much REAL skill points the tamer has, since in essence, the pet is an extension of the tamer. Maybe, higher the skill level, the tamer has the ability to control what abilities or spells it casts and possibly make it more act more aggressive or defensive.

As for pets, I would like to see differentiation between all tames and focus on their strengths and uniqueness. For example, White Wyrms high resistance to cold damage, high cold damage output, and cast cold spells (Mind Blast, Wither, Essense of Wind, Hail Storm, etc.) Lastly, one pet skill, herding doesn't have much usefulness in today's game. Possibly, replace it with a new skill, Pack Leader - which enhances hunting in packs possibly reducing damage to packs and/or increasing damage output for the overall pack.

As for pet dyes, keep them in the Origin store. It's not essential to the game but people do want them. Customization should be an option for those who are willing to pay for it.

I shot an idea to them last year for a pet revamp to include pets that cast sensible necro and mystic spells along with complimentary special moves. I see no point in having a pet that uses stun punch (reptalon) especially in a pvm situation.

I'd like to see a pet for each land. One in umbra that casts necro spells that makes sense like corpse then strangle then poison strike. One for TerMur that casts mystic. Maybe one for Tok that can do deathstrike or nervestrike.

We need specials that are useful. Bleed is ok. Poison is good. I want a pet that can armor ignore!!

Well the way to get them can be the same..but a completely different scroll..that was everyone starts fresh..people have so many scrolls hoarded, it wouldn't be fair. Pets should have a 820 skill cap and customizable..a chiv Deathstriker greater dragon..BEAST! Lol

Same. I suggested giving Reptalons the Life Drain abilily that Vampire Bats have (heal for 50% of the damage they deal), since they were supposed to be the Human equivalent to the Elves' Cu Sidhe, which can self heal. Since the Cu Sidhe can also heal it's owner when the owner is low on Health, maybe also give the Reptalon the Meer Eternal's Blood Drain ability, which would deal ranged damage to a target, and heal the owner for that much. Another idea to buff them, is to give them Necromancy skill and spells (except for Blood Oath/Wither), afterall they look like a giant bat in CC. In ML Beta, Reptalons actually had Nerve Strike as their special instead of Paralyzing Blow, and since Nerve Strike was a stun back then and didn't break on damage, they were OP with it for PvP.

Give WWs back their ability to use Frost Breath and AoE spells (they were notorious for Mass Cursing anyone green to them and chomping them, which is why their AoE spells were removed). Give them Meteor Swarm and Chain Lightning too.

I absolutely LOVE the idea of being able to raise pet stats/skills through the use of PS's. Or perhaps tie it to the tamers ability, IE, at legendary taming the tamer can "raise" 1 skill/stat per month to 120 with a scroll. Show the tamer who spent the time to get to legendary some love :). Just a thought.

There's a lot of great suggestions in this thread and it shows that players do what improvements to the tamer profession. PS for pets and pets with special abilities are all great ideas. One dynamic that I haven't seen yet is a pet that actually plays more of a support role than an aggressive role, something like a shadow wisp for tamers. Of course, it will requires taming and the higher levels of taming skills have access to different animals with different abilities. For example, a unicorn that heals the tamer when they get poisoned or cast greater heal when you hit like 40% of your life, or remove curse if you get cursed. There should be limits on how many times they can cast it in a certain period of time but that can always be changed.

Another pet that had potential was the Skree. It was a spellcaster that took 4 slots... for... what? It doesn't tank (low hp and resistance) nor does it do too much damage on attacks. It's great at spellcasting (mysticism) but doesn't pack any punch... So what is it really good for? Initially, I believe it was designed as a support type of pet, it would cast sleep continuously and keep the target subdued. But it was way too powerful since it was quite unfair especially in PvP. Devs can always put different rules for PvP - ie limiting how many times it can cast Sleep within a certain period or add diminishing returns on duration of Sleep if it succeeds to keep it from getting out of hand. But the point is, the Skree (just like the Reptalon) had a special uniqueness to it that was pretty cool except it was too powerful for PvP. I think the Devs should at least revisit some of these pets and make them viable again by giving their original design into the game (for PvM) but also limiting their power in PvP.

There was mention of some change coming this year, so either we're going to get another "surprise it's on TC" or it's been delayed. I think we'll get the usual TC surprise at some random time in the future. I suspect the devs have decided what we're getting and it might be modest, or we could get lasers on unicorns.

I'm hoping for modest changes and a significant number of extra stable slots. I don't expect either though :D

Tigers to tame.

120 skills unicorn/pets that dies so fast. Someone like to train pets for fun.

Pegacorn tame for elf and human to ride. We should be able to join the wing flapping eyesore at the bank also.

One slot pet tames with a pack bonus. Dark Wolves got canned being they would be a short time tame that later players would be upset on not being able to tame. Ooops - Dreadmare - Damn

No need for whole body pet dyes add nausium blindness. More dyes that work as a body paint/tattoo designs. Can only be used on a pet you own and the design and color is based off your fame & karma at the time applied.

Skilling up a pet to max? No thanks...

Everyone would have max pets and there would be no uniqueness. Also, some people like myself, love hunting for that awesome pet.

Add in pet armor, and activated skills that are unique to each pet.

Activated skills are definately a possibility. Afterall, if you say "Trick" with a Dread War Horse, it casts a harmless AoE black cloud, with a 20-30 min cooldown. Maybe add something similar to other pets, but have it deal damage or have some other effect, like casting Cleansing Wind on the owner or something.
