Simple poll. Just wondering the forums pvp habits, since there have been many hot topics that relate to pvp in some way lately.

Please keep this poll clean and open for accurate results
Please no explaining why you dont pvp, the problems with pvp, how dumb it is etc.

If you would like to explain your pvp habits in more depth feel free to, just please keep the topic focused to:

"how much time do i spend pvping currently"

you could also provide information like what pvp guild your in, solo player, stuff like that.

I am a casual pvper. i do champ spawns on my sampire, hunt in fel for better loot and if interrupted might log on my actual pvp character and go back for revenge.
I dont pvp alot, but might get real into it for a few days out of the month where thats all i do.
Also randomly might play for 45 mins or so, or until my first death or something if im bored and looking for some action.

Hard to vote in that poll as you can't just ask how much people PvP, some may want more PvP than they get, some may not want to be aggressive but do not mind getting attacked/invited to a fight.
I'm a Siege player, PvP can be anywhere but at the moment I'm not aggressive in PvP as I know almost everyone

very good point. Since Siege is a bit different, for siege play id go with how much time you spend in combat, or actively avoiding combat (like if some guys trying to kill you for 15 mins that counts)

or the option that "all my gametime is spent pvping / fel based content" would also be appropiate for siege. or even the one that says "i spend time in fel but avoid pvp at all costs"

its just to get a general idea, i realize polls like this can never be perfect and tailor to everyones extremely specific gameplay

The best choice for me was "I hunt and shop in fel but avoid PvP at all costs."
Why? Simply because characters designed for PvM would stand little chance against characters designed for PvP, so why get killed for nothing?
So why not make some characters especially for PvP? Because I don't know how and don't have the energy to spend the time learning.

I never PVP as killing others is not part of my value set. Well unless I am forced to while defending an Old Sage's Self.

I would vote Never but you then follow it up with I never go to Fel.

You might be surprised but I tend to walk the forests of Fel and Siege fairly often.

Alas I am left no where to leave my humble opinion.

Eh, I'm a sieger, but I will flee if attacked, as I am not much of a pvper, and am too lazy to replace my gear very often. Though since I started working and thus playing 3rd shift I don't think I've been attacked once. Ole siege is pretty dead in the AM hours.

PvP has died on Napa and I could never get into it on ATL but I do have a full account of guys skilled and suited there. IF I find someone on Napa to fight I would do it all day like before the great faction nerf when every shard had a group of people but Vent is empty as is the shard.

I'll write in my answer here.

Most of my time, when I feel like it, if I'm not trying to make a buck of the latest goodies and if there's anyone actually pvping and if my accounts are active at said given time.

I defend my guild and friends from raid attempts. I raid those who raid us. I pvp with those who try to take control of VvV towns while I am trying to take control of them. I pvp at Yew gate (or anywhere) against my sworn enemies. I don't mess with those who don't mess with me or my friends. I love to kill the bullies, the trash talkers and most of all the griefers. I enjoy strategy, teamwork and cooperation.

The experience of pvp is one of the greatest thrills in UO.

I'm stuck between (A) "all my active game time is spent pvping / fel based content" and (B) "
pvp but in an rp / alliance / guild war setting only"

Both are accurate but in the spirit of the poll I went with (A) because even though our guild has strict in-character policies and is "RP" in all situations the guilds we interact with are not held to those standards and simply need to be themed "Virtue/good" to be considered allies. Currently our rp has us involved in VvV - defending cities from evil which includes other rpers but the majority of allies and enemies are not.

I do go to Fel.... I do hunt and such there... I "will" PvP if need be... but that's not why I go to Fel.... and it's not what I'm looking to do when I go there. I "prefer" RPPvP.

Long ago I did a fair amount of PvP in the large RP wars but nowadays I am a Legendary Runner. My two houses are in Fel and I often do champ spawns and the dungeons there, I just choose to disengage from PvP whenever possible. However, if I am in a group that is attacked I am still willing to live up to my old DDJ title of 'Bunny Bait' and take a beating while the others get away....

in the webcam "state of stratics" update last night, it sounded like there were plans for the creation of groups. Ron Bron said they would only be moderated by the creator of the group and would held only to very loose standards (im assuming things like extreme racism and the like)

So there is still hope for for a more open type of forum than we have now. we'll have to see how it plays out.

All my time is spent in Felucca, whether PvP'ing or not. I just never found the Trammel rulesets to be very exciting.

Yes, I mean those boards. To say every screenshot involves illegal programs is a huge overstatement but yes, people do acknowledge that they exist over there (shocking I know). I'd suggest Cutter's DB4 boards too but those are pretty dead. Fact is, most pvpers (and almost all returning pvpers) don't check stratics, they go to pvp boards to get a synopsis on the current state of UO.

Given my history on stratics and the posts I've seen (and now enforced by this poll results) the majority of posters on stratics really are just talking out of their a** when it comes to pvp. Some used to do it and others do it in RP, but the majority do not know what pvp in UO is like these days nor do they really have any idea of what 3rd party programs do (and how little of an impact they make). They'd just rather chalk pvp up to scripts and hax (which really only serve one useful function: cutting down on lag) and thus justify never having to actually compete for a shiny object ever again.

My point is, despite what you and other posters here think you've "learned," the majority seemingly lack actual experience pvping. You may have tried it briefly, you may have heard someone in vent talk about it, or you may just have heard people on here complain about it but you've never actually participated in it to a significant degree. Further, the majority don't seem to want to learn. However, rather than just saying you're not interested and don't know what you're talking about, posters try front like they know something and end up proposing ideas that the pvp community at-large dislikes.

Point is: pvp input on this board is an absolute joke and totally misrepresents the community.

Unnamed and unknown? LOL. As someone who's been fighting against cheats since coming back in May (despite what the users of said cheats might say), it's as alive as it was 10 years ago; I just don't have the patience or desire to deal with it anymore. I've seen tile-skipping (5+ at a time), a casting loop which was likely from a script (and this guy disappears for a few days every time there's a patch. Things that make you go hmm), and multiboxing, among other things.

I have a mage on siege with a suit I've had for over a year..every time I log in I have to beg in Gen Chat for a fight. Interesting it's either a pop shot crew that shows or nobody..the solitude usually bores me and I log out. I PvP on far too many other shards to stand around for an hour to get that one ballsy enough stealther DSer to finally show up and end up smoke bombing away

Or we can fight on UOF..I have 5 7x mages there too

Guys im all for healthy discussion, and love the new staff that actually try to keep threads going, but this thread is also getting a bit off topic.

This is only a very selective poll to get an idea of the pvp habits of people who post on UO hall.

I agree UO hall is NOT the place to be for an accurate representation of the hardcore pvp playerbase LOL.

im sure the poll results would also be extremely different if this was posted in the trade forum.


So... lets keep this thread on topic, id like it to stay open a while longer for most accurate results

If youd like to post about the problems with pvp, why its not worth it anymore, why it is, why siege is the only place to pvp, why UO is trash for pvp now, why UO is awesome for pvp, whatever, im sure another thread could be started

I know, i really wish we could edit polls because i would have made one option "I play siege" which really would speak for itself. This of course could still mean a siege player avoids pvp at all costs, but is still playing an open pvp area. Its just a poll but hopefully some amount of general info can be taken from it.

No way dog, I'm even more superior. I play a freeshard with even more hardcore PVP and permadeath. Of course it's not connected to the internet and I'm the only person on it, but that's fine. It's all about how tough the ruleset is, not whether anything is actually going on.
