Its a patch to version 39.0
If ya can not login you may need to change your login.cfg file

When I patched the EC, I'm pretty sure I saw that it was updating the UI. They probably patched both clients to keep the versions synched and to update the encryption, breaking certain naughty programs.

However, a patch without notes is a step towards disaster...

I agree, seems like it would be easy enough to have someone type in "Had to take server down to repair damage caused by an exploit". Problem solved.

Agreed, patch notes should always be required, even if they are server side fixes. "Patch 39.01: Fixing server Client Stability. Closing several Exploits" would be way more than sufficient.
