Which is a little weird, considering missing a . drives you to a third party site. But at least the new MyUO works well itself. Apart from the fact you can't find characters with less than 3 letter names.

EA owns it. Broadsword does not. I am not saying that it matters, but we really don't know the exact details of the agreement and association that Broadsword has with EA. We can only speculate. So, with that in mind, maybe they needed to make a new site.
It's all about the two companies playing nice with each other. It's really not hard to do at all with most companies... but, we all know EA isn't like most companies.
EDIT: I just ran a whois on uo.com, and EA is still the registered owner of both websites.

For some reason, this still doesn't work for me.
When I hit the drop down arrow on select a shard, there is nothing there. No options to choose from. When I type a name into one of the boxes below, the search button remains grayed out.

Shouldn't there be a tab (link) for search.uo.com on the uo.com page? That would be a logical way to find it, or even know it exists.

A question about the Search MyUO.
Unless I understood it wrong, I read posts which made me understand that the MyUO search displays skills, stats AND worn equipment (gear and weapons, talismans, shields etc.).
Well, it does not work for me. I can only get as a search result skills and stats to be displayed but NOT the worn equipmen with mods details. Is there something I am supposed to do in order to also display the worn equipment ?

It does not show equipment mods, which means the stats it does show do not paint the complete picture. Something I mentioned once before.
Well I like the idea and all. I've checked out a few people on the shard that I know are effective to get some template ideas, and that's a nice feature. But to list everyone's equipment and such I'm not so crazy about. There should be a little mystery and effort put into building a toon. These folks have spent years and tons of gold putting it all together experimenting with equipment and all that, and I don't think it's fair a player from day one doesn't have to put any effort, time, or gold into it and just copy someone. I have a lot of building to do and it would be great to carbon copy someone who rocks, but I don't think it's right.

@Capt. Lucky I see your point but you don't have to look at others for inspiration if you don't want to. Others do not have the time to spend researching all the best gear/mods/etc and then the wealth to make/buy them. Sometimes we like to see what others are doing and mix and match something decent and playable. Most aren't going to carbon copy but find what works and adjust it to what they want or can afford. I agree with @cazador 
I do not see how it would be any different then getting gear details from friends, from forums, from checking other players at the bank and so forth....
Well to me the difference would be using vendor search or checking every vendor pack on the shard, lol. One's way too easy, the other takes some effort.
How much difficult is it getting hinted by a friend or from a kind player on a forum ?? I see no difficulty at all........

I have also had sporadic issues with no result found..then after clicking search again or erasing and trying again it seems to work..
