Another IDOC Thread :-/

Anyhow,

So this morning I am at my second ever IDOC on Atlantic talking to a couple nice people. They stated they were up very late last night at a loaded IDOC where every single container/item was grabbed as soon as it fell by scripters. ( I have only seen it happen once where a "young" player literally had 100's of chests and items spinning over their head as soon as the house fell. You could not grab the items as they whirled by and the "Bot" stood there like that for hours after the house fell until I guess the "Human" came home/noticed).

At the IDOC on Atlantic there were several "Young's" and the players there were calling them scripters. The house actually fell while I was eating lunch so I didn't get to see what happened.

In order to combat this issue why not restrict all trial accounts to New Haven? With the new dungeon there and all the NPC's its more than enough to give a "Trial Player" the chance to experience the game. There is no reason whatsoever a player on a trial account should be worried or even know what an IDOC is.

The second and much more drastic thing that could be done is allow everyone to use scripts. I would not want to see this happen but lets be honest. Its been going on so so very long and very little if anything has been done about it. I am not a computer programmer but I find it hard to believe the "Devs" cannot tell that "IDOC Ninja (Young)" is trying to pick up several 100's of items, several thousands of times a minute. You'd think the data flow would be easily detected by the system and some action, even if its just boot them from the game, could be taken.

The most interesting thing is I have never seen a Dev/Mesanna even recognize that so many legitimate/rule abiding players are experiencing an in game issue with cheaters. But ask if they will put Fruit Juices into the game they will respond immediately saying "What a Great Idea!" I am not trying to throw mud at the Devs and I think they do a great job but lets be honest, the act of scripting falls on "deaf ears."

So after so many years either fix it or allow it.

they don't care that's why they changed the idoc system to cater to the afk looter

Tis sad to say it but I must agree, I have never seen any determined effort to deter scripting in UO. EVER

You know what might solve some of that issue.... When a house drops it ought to blast everyone in the area away 2 screens... and then "young" folk should not be allowed back in like an invisible barrier is placed over the plot. If they try to enter it should do like them trying to go to fel and say they were "redirected" to a safer location and be ported back to New Haven. But blasting everyone away ought to fix some as for the looting script that's been going on for YEARS... Best and ONLY way to combat that... destroy the 2d client or patch it on an every 2 or 3 day basis. We all know where it comes from yet no one says it. Not like the cheaters don't know already.

Honestly what might be fun would be that the house explodes and that stuff is scattered to the four winds... and having tracking might help you find it.

Agreed that the devs never seem to try preventing scripters from breaking the rules, to be fair they do fight dupers relatively often, but scripters....not really.

I´ve been meaning to make a thread with this exact same proposal after reading so much lately how the trial accounts are abused on prodo but haven´t gotten around to it. I´m glad you brought it up instead.

Restricting them to New Haven would help combat cheating so much in this game without really taking anything away from a new players experience.

In New Haven they can do pretty much anything when it comes to gaining skills as far as I know. And if the dungeon there isn´t really as good as it should be for that I´m sure the devs could tweak it a little to make it a better place to gain in.
And I´m sure most if not every shard would have veteran players that enjoy to help new players hanging out in NH to answer questions and help them get a good start. At least there will be if it´s known that all new players are restricted to that area.

And if they want to explore the rest of the game while on a trial account they could just log on to Test center to play around and experience the rest of the lands and seas as much as they want to.

As it is now, I´m sure that less than 5% of the trial accounts that are created are real new/returning players. The rest are people abusing trial accounts for shady actions.
So the way I see it, a change like this would only be good for the game, not bad.

So it has my vote. It´s time to do something about the abuse of trial accounts and this would be a good step in the right direction.

Limiting trial accounts to new haven would negate the main purpose of trial accounts, to test out the world of UO.

I'm not sure about limiting trial accounts to New Haven but do agree with not letting them near IDOCs.

Personally I think Cavern of the Discarded should be an almost instant death zone, and when every house falls, every item goes there for 10 seconds before either being picked up by anyone lucky enough to live long enough, or vanishing forever. IDOCs and loot bring out the evil in people, do away with them already. :)

I think the idea is neat. Could put some of that crap in Tmaps as well. But really I think it would make it more challenging and fun.. and would certainly stop script looting.

fel ones don't have a problem with scripters ... why's that? player justice.

need to make other facets fel rules around house on fall. let reds into all facet.. unable to attack or be attacked unless your in the zone.

zone would be the area your unable to place a house within.. that already exists.

fair system.. more pvp action. two birds

also that same area.. trail and young accounts are unable to enter this zone.

fixed

No that just means the cheating Fel Script, Macro Hackers will get all the loot and the script hiding looters will walk away laughing all the way to the bank while the PvPer morons duke it out over the dribblings.

but you can reveal and kill the so called stealth scripters... and the red guilds do idoc for pvp for the most part. and they are able to loot if they want.

its just a suggestion for more pvp and a way to get the scripters out..

if they were not 100% safe it would at least be better.

there is nothing they can do about scripters. no matter how many times its brought up ... zero.

or it would have been done

Actually if they were restricted to TC and New Haven that would solve many issues.
Limiting trial accounts wont fix the problem of scripters at IDOCs. Just because you see few young players at IDOCs doesn't mean that is this is the core of the IDOC scripters arsenal. Secondly, and more of a personal opinion, a collapsing house isn't exactly core to this game. It is a great hobby for sure, but not core. If anything, people should be more concerned about scripters abusing young player status in just about any other mechanic of this game rather than a falling house...not that any come to mind.

In other words, limiting trial accounts to a lousy island and a little test shard wouldn't solve anything worth while, scripters will always be at IDOCs. Would be more beneficial to leave trial accounts free to roam for those who are actually wanting to test out this game and check out as much of the as they can on the real shards and interact with players there. TC isn't always a great place to meet people.

This is veeery easy to fix if the devs can code 2 small changes:

First: Trial accounts should not have any kind of access to *worn* houses.

If the guy running the trial account army has a paid account and he can access the house, its ok.. because as soon as the house drops..

Second: the trial accounts should NOT be able to step on a -temporarily unable to place spot-

and thats every house spot right after it fell and for the next 30-180 mins. That *will* stop the trial account scripters and make them to pay for these accounts and probably a few of these scripters will risk their accounts and get a ban (if ppl page on them).

Anyway, this is a really quick and easy change that will stop scripters. Sadly, I dont expect these changes to happen. The devs will probably spend months to code another casino that no one will use somewhere before doing this.

your point? in facets other then fel you have zero worries. no need for stealth.

people want a way to field against marcoing people.. make it not safe.

i use a stealth archer for fel.. for the packed ones.. so i don't get picked off... sometimes i still have to use some tactics to stay safe or run and heal and come back.

tram i use a mage with four pack horses out in the open. zero worry.

Been happeneing for years....

Been reported for years

They nchange the Idoc decay times to make the afk scripters even more lucrative, as normal legal players dont have a clue when they gonna fall now so wont waste time and wait around.

Apparantly ...it was said we have to live and let die ....live along side the cheaters.... have to put up with the scripters [whatever]

F*** PVP... Simply let all the stuff inside the house drop at random in player backpacks like Anniversary-presents... One present for each char...

I know, you hate the idea. And I know, it is unrealistic to do. But I like it - banksitting 24h at WBB and waiting for presents to drop in your backpack

Could that be because duping some things which can be bought from the store costs them cash? and scripting is just detrimental to players who play by the rules but costs them nothing. Or is that reasoning just lil ol' cynical me?

Just make the trial accounts where they can't go in the housing areas. Sorry trial accounts are not allowed in the housing areas. For the 14 days the trial account may log out in the inns.

Must be different IDOC's that I have been to. I have not seen anything that looks like a scripter at IDOC's. However, there are several script miners from time to time on Siege. They are always fun to kill and loot.
