EM Event Schedules

Not sure this is the proper forum, feel free to move it.

I am wondering if it is at all possible to get rid of the EM event schedule system we currently have and move it to a calendar based system in which all events on every shard are easily read on one page. Furthermore it would be absolutely fantastic if it could sync with google calendar for those of us with smart phones.

Currently players have found a way to put a character on a lot of different shards since they love doing EM events. However they dont find all the events as they have to check every shard individually.


Just a thought.

I try and attend them for the new content and of course chance at a drop... I have chars setup on a few servers.. but I miss 9/10 due to timing or just not knowing.

Well, I can't 'get rid of the EM Event schedule' because it's not my system. It's the EMs.
We don't have a calendar plug in on the boards, and I know of no way to auto-feed to a google calendar. So what you're really asking is that someone on Stratics staff spend their time copying EM events from the EM forums to a google calendar?

At the top of every forum there is a link 'watch forum'


If you click on that link it opens a box.



I suggest that you use that facility to watch the EM forums and send you an email when a thread is posted.

I used to maintain the EM event Twitter page, but gave it up because for such a seemingly-small thing it was a not inconsiderable amount of effort -- one I came to realize I was better off spending elsewhere. (I happily could have gone the rest of my days without knowing what a "hashtag" was.)

I think it is fair to expect, however, that if one is going to play that many shards that it should take a good amount of effort on your part. It seems to be a rewarding job, both monetarily and in terms of seeing a nice variety of events and styles (assuming one cares about the latter of course). So why protest the effort it takes to compile the necessary data? Let alone, why ask others to expend that effort on your behalf?

Are you serious? You actually want the EM's to accommodate event crashers??? The EM's create events and the corresponding schedule for the people of THEIR shard. They are not concerned about the professional item collectors. And rightly so! I feel your pain. Myself and a few others have been trying to keep up with EM events from all shards here: http://www.ultimaonlineevents.com It wouldnt be so much of a headache but for the inconsistantcy and multiple changes that EM's inevitably have to make because of RL issues. But no one that uses the calender wants to hear about that, they just want a 100% accurate calendar period. To be honest I have been slacking lately and will redouble my efforts to stay on top of the updating.

I suggest that you use that facility to watch the EM forums and send you an email when a thread is posted.

I do this but the problem arrises when the EM edits an existing post with new times and dates. Is there any way to have a third option in RSS and send notifications any time there is a post, or update to a thread? Instead of just when a new post is made?

I was referring to the EM's shard (i.e. their shard meaning the EM's assigned shard) but in general if people live/play on the shard I would not consider them crashers. People who want to attend all event just to collect an item, I would consider crashers.

Given how real life works, I can see situations where this is impossible. In the last couple of years, train delays, family members in the hospital, the death of a grandmother, and the Boston bombing fugitive hunt have all disrupted my schedule. If our real lives don't always follow careful schedules, I don't see how this would ever work for other people's real lives.

Not all people that attend events on other shards are after the drops, some play because they enjoy the events that the EM's setup. I have characters on most US shards and attend some events on Shards other than Legends (my main) just to enjoy the experience. If I get a drop fine, if not at least I had a fun night. When I find an EM that I like I usually go to all their events (GL for example), I now have a house there and have not missed the weekly event in 2 years (except for a couple due to RL activities). A lot of the people that attend events other than on their "own" shard are not necessarily after leet loot, but just enjoy the events and are not causing issues.

To the OP, while you may have to look at all the Event Forums if you're looking to attend events, the calendar idea is not a great idea. since many of the EM's post story arcs, look for feedback and comments about the story line.

Our event calendar showed an event the other night as TBA, since the EM wasn't sure when the calendar was postedd if the setup would be complete, and we had one Event Runner show up 3 hours before usual start time, and spend over an hour in chat pancakes cause no time had been posted. We tried to explain since nothing was posted, there wouldn't be anything....common sense for most of us, right? To which we were informed over and over what TBA meant was that there would be an event!! It just meant the time would be announced later, and it really sucked to plan what shard to play that evening based on faulty event calendars.

Finally someone told him they were gonna call the wambulance AND his momma if he didnt just shutup...guess he moved on after that.

Perhaps we just need to log in every Monday morning and have all shards event items show up in our banks? like Holiday gifts or something?

the usual meaning (for me in the UK at least) of TBA is 'to be advised', In the absence of any advice - ie event details, it would be usual to assume that no event was to take place.

Google calendar FTW for something like this. I love the fact it will email me or even send a notification to my phone when there is something going on.

UOForums have a similar thing but looks like it hasn't been updated for a while or maybe doesn't cover all the EM events. Lastnights Europa event is not shown for example. http://www.uoforums.com/calendar/

While I typically have an issue with "professional eventers" looking for things to be made easier for them, I think an updated calendar would be of more help to people like me - limited to one or two accounts, playing multiple shards in order to get a variety of experiences and storytelling. The drop pros are already doing "the work" - we see them at every event, don't we? So things get easier for them - the end result is the same.

I like the Google calendar idea (such as Longtooths), but it is tough to keep up to date (especially when different EMs have different scheduling procedures). Of course there is the UO Facebook page which does a fair job of posting events.

This attitude of "Only my playstyle is the valid playstyle, everyone else has ruined UO" is what's ruining UO.

Actually, it was a half hour before usual start time, and I only talked for about 15 minutes. The schedule didn't say "To be Advised" or whatever anyone else is saying in here. It said "To Be Announced" , hence there is something planned, and it will be announced later. Its amazing how you twisted what happened, and how "bad" I was. Sorry I enjoy events on UO so much that I schedule myself around them to make sure I can be in attendance. If there was something that night, I didn't want to miss it, as I hate missing out on pieces of the story. I also hate being treated as some diseased infected xsharder, who everyone thinks is only there for a prize #NotAllXSharders

As for the OP: Luckily most EM's either post on Stratics, or have an RSS feed posting from their EM site. It doesn't take long to find each shard's monthly schedule. The UO facebook also does a good job of posting the events as each are scheduled. In addition, you have the player run site which has been mentioned already.


I highly recommend people make new characters to take to other shards other than the ones you consider your home. They are great experiences, great communities and each have great history and stories. Personally, my home shard was Chesapeake for 10+ years, and I didn't end up moving to Atlantic until I saw how awesome Bennu was. EM Events in my opinion, can really shape a shard, and really make a shard a prime destination. So everyone should go and experience other shards story + events, maybe one day you might even move to a shard who has an EM you really like.

Secondly, Legends doesn't have 15 players And for those sitting in the hall, well, if the last word is to be announced, and nothing has been announced, well, Duh! is all I can think of to say.

Nothing wrong with attending events on every shard, I do several shards myself. But alll of us have a "home" shard...Legends is my home shard. I wouldnt dream of going to another shard and talking about their EM or moaning and groaning about TBA...and how their EM had posted/hadn't posted etc etc. Not good form, not good form at all. And for the reccord, sometime things happen that prevent people from getting to a computer to change some info...Just an FYI

I never said a mean thing about EM Avalon, I even stated how much I enjoy their events. As for me "talking trash", the only thing I said was that some people like to defend EM's no matter the situation, and one certain person has been doing it for years, even when Legends unfortunately had a rough patch. I never said anything insulting, never said anything specific about any individual, merely how I thought it was silly to defend someone "Just because" they are an EM.

I was at the EM Hall with plenty of other people, people I don't even know who they are, so obviously I was not alone in thinking an event had been planned.

The Devs nor the EMs are above criticism. The only thing I could ask for, is that if event plans change, then for the players to be informed about them. Something came up? Make a post letting us know the event is cancelled or postponed. Never actually intended to have an event? Let us know that date is removed. Plans change, of course they do, we are only human. All I ask, and all I made a point of saying in chat that night, was we the players should at least be attempted to be notified when in fact those plans change.

The ones who should be ashamed, are the ones who treat people like me like third world citizens just because I dont have a house on Legends. The ones in chat, who rudely brush me off because I'm just some greedy xsharder.

At the end of the day, I didn't email Mesanna, I didn't post on Stratics complaining, I didn't email the EM, I didn't do anything about it. The only reason any of this is being posted, is because you decided to bring it up and wildly misrepresent what happened.

Perhaps there might have been a bit of overreacting on both sides, and I might have been having a bad day yesterday and just misread the tone of the conversation. I don't dislike x sharders per se like some people do, cause like I said, I also do stuff on other shards as well. Anyhow, there will be an event this Sat, see ya there.

Also we are having the annual Phoenix Festival on the 27th. Check the Legends board from time to time for details. Come check it out, it's player run, so there won't be any big prizes, but there will be a good time.

Sorry, didn't mean to start all this over what boils down to simple semantics.

Agreed. I've only participated in one event on Atlantic, which was over the weekend in Tram Skara. I didn't do too much in it though, due to being on an incomplete mystic (my stats weren't finished & I have a suit that's only suitable for training), plus I can't use Risings in town. Admittedly, that's nobody's fault but my own, and I'll be making a tamer on Atlantic as well. It was fun though.

Lake Superior's events are fun too. Especially when Falcon gets to kill us repeatedly (I'd say she's mean, but hey, we enjoy it. Dying is fun.) The fact that she's using Crimson Dragons makes it even more fun; while it'd be nice if I could get a Crimson Cincture (in general. I can't even get it from regular Peerless runs. If one DOES drop when I'm there, someone else gets it, but hey, that's the way the RNG works), the challenge of the fights alone more than makes up for the lack of rare drops (and with Pub 86 coming soon, the regular loot is going to be drool-worthy.)
