Anyone playing with 700ms pings?

I just switched to satellite internet service because the only other choice is a wireless that is saturated with traffic - anywhere from 23ms to +1500ms pings and 100% packet losses after lunchtime until midnight.

The satellite internet is a constant 700ms ping, and when I logged into UO, movement was smooth although with a noticeable lag in actions. PvP is out of the question, but wonder if anyone else has tackled UO with a satellite connection, and how well it worked.

Satellite is either upstream or downstream at any one point instead of running both side by side...so that's why there's a noticeable lag.

Got comcast business phone, cable, internet. We told the guy we didn't want the hotspot software, and we wanted to be password protected. So he gave us a modem that had no hotspot software on it, and he help us set it up with password etc. We had to go with their modem since the phones are connected to the modem. Were paying 10 dollars more for the package, but now we get all movie channels, and saving 70 dollars a month now.
over here we have direct tv bright house att verse. but we always been with comcast since its been in this area.

you could try getting a router, putting a password on it but no idea how satellite works hopefully some one does

I can buy the router - $300 - rather than pay $10 a month, but for a two year contract it doesn't save anything. But that isn't the issue with the satellite router, which doesn't have the broadcast hotspot feature since it is only a modem, not a wireless router. Still, the problem is latency and not sure there is any way to reduce that since the satellite is situated in a geosynchronous orbit 26,199 miles above the earth.

The good news is I ran a speedtest on my 5 Mbps service, and it clocks out at 20.5 Mbps download speed.

we had satellite internet at one of our northern remote stations and i was on it once.
the dowload speeds where hella nice, but the upload speeds where basically dial up.

made for playing UO some very interesting times, that did.

i actually ran smoother putting my iphone on 3G hotspot and running my laptop through it.
course i had unlimited data back then.

Dialup isn't even an option where I live, yet cable and fiber are available less than 3 miles away.

I'm not ready to give up UO yet, so will give PvM a try at least until we get the new Publish... which could be months yet.
