i wasnt going to say anything, but since Aran so very politely mentioned it first... while a very nice thought, its much too political to be discussed/posted here and has nothing to do with UO.

I am an American and I have much respect for the memories of that tragedy... however, a memorial to it does not belong in this game. There are tragedies every day through out this entire world... wars, shootings, starvation, genocide, slavery, honor killings, female mutilation and more. As Americans we are not unique in this world and this may be unpopular among my fellow citizens, but our sorrow should not be and IS NOT special. As sad as it is what happened, there are people around this world who have suffered more and more recently than us. People are dying from evil all around us.

If you want to remember this particular tragedy, log off and go donate your time out of the game to help raise funds to have something put in place in RL, or to do something nice for someone who lost someone. That is how to best honor the memories, not in a game whose life is only finite.

I'm not sure what is political about a memorial; Furthermore he isn't asking for it to be an official event.
As far as it having nothing to do with UO, neither does Easter, Fourth of July, St' Georges Day, The Star Festival, or any of the other holidays. Or for that matter any of the personal player memorials I see around from time to time.

It's not my thing , so I wouldn't participate, but if he wants to have a remembrance, so be it. And if he wants to organize with other people who are interested, I'm not sure that that affects you or me, or anyone in any way.

I don't understand in-character typing and personality about real life things. RP isn't my thing, but it's even more confusing when people RP about real life events in a fantasy game. If a goblin knows about 9/11 enough to care he'd be able to communicate it with proper grammar.

I enjoyed gaming with Ozog and the personality is fun in game, but on the forums it just loses something... for me at least.

I'd love if that was the case. I personally would prefer if this game had chosen to pursue holiday celebrations to do with the lore of ultima or the in-game events that have occurred since the online game began.

If a player wants to make a memorial to that tragedy , that is their right in the way they play the game. I have zero problem with people doing it in their homes. I just don't agree with it being a memorial created by Broadsword.

9-11 didn't happen to just US citizens it happened to people all over this globe. Where ever I travel in this world people feel the pain of that day and those that followed. Including Muslim countries.

And how dare you tell someone what they should do in real life!

From what I read Ozog is asking players to hold ingame events. Not Broadsword. Whether or not this thread belongs in this forum is up to the Mods.

It's not "typos and incorrect grammar," his whole in-game gimmick is being a disgusting little goblin, and for some reason he feels the need to carry that gimmick to outside the game.

Of all the controversial things that are posted on Uhall that dont even actually matter and get locked, i cant imagine this can stay even "clean and constructive" for long. I play UO to get away from stuff like this.

Again, its an innocent and commendable thought, but it would be more respectful to not have this topic on UOhall.

Assia, and Aran, while I understand what you mean about it not being the only tragedy in the world, 9/11 is not infamous just because it happened in America. It is infamous in other countries as well due to the shock factor it caused. Until 9/11 the US had not been attacked since pearl harbor, so for all the other countries learning the US had been attacked gave them the thoughts of "wow, if the US isn't even safe anymore our country is in extreme danger also". Planes are planes, they are not limited to one country, the rest of the world had no way of knowing there weren't hundreds more planes going around the world preparing to attack many more countries.

9/11 is not just an American tragedy, it is also a symbol for the end of safety across the world. I completely agree with Amber Witch, if anything, it seems like people in other countries, specefically middle eastern countries are more upset it happened than Americans are.

To be perfectly honest, (In America) a lot of people I've met since then seem to either not care about 9/11 anymore since it no longer affects their daily lives, or just pretend it never happened. That kind of attitude is what allows more tragedys to happen, it gives people who want to do harm to the world the impression that they can do whatever they want to and within 15 years everyone will forget about it anyways.

And yes, I'm American.

Slightly off. the towers were attacked in 1993 by a car bomb. same plan, to destroy both towers. but it didnt work, only killed 6 people. i still see it as an attack.

Yes, technically it was an attack, but since it had such a small fatality rate I'm not sure if other countries realized it had happened, and if they did they wouldn't have had a need to be as afraid of it, a car can't travel across the world in a few hours, so if it did happen again in other countries their police would have had a fair chance to stop it.

This is pretty much what I was talking about in my original post....Yes, it was 13 years ago, until it happens again. World War I was called the war to end all wars, it ended, people started saying "oh that happened years ago" then, surprise, World War II.

While 9/11 happened on American soil, it was the WORLD trade center and citizens from many countries lost their lives.

Having said that I do feel this is not a topic for discussion here.

I suggest that anyone who is in sympathy with @whiterabbit and his proposal should contact him by PM with a view to organise an event for those who feel as he does.
