How fair it is to reset Fishmonger Quests' reputation due to decayed ship ?

I really have a hard time understanding WHY the game mechanics punish a player over a decayed ship containing Fishmonger's Quests unfinished crates....

I mean, there can be TONS of issues in real life, where a UO player cannot log in for a number of days and thus loose the ship to decay which are not dependant to the player's will.

Now, I am not arguing about the ship and its hold's content vanishing, but I DO am arguing about losing, on top of that, ALSO the reputation so far obtained with the Fishmonger's Quests because the ship decayed had Quests' crates in the hold.

Hving to restart one's own Fishmonger's reputation from zero just because a ship decayed due to unwanted reasons seems too much a punishment (especially because it takes forever to build it up again...). I REALLY think this should be changed.

Popps I don't know if you use EC or not, but I dabble in it a little bit and have done some fish monger quests with it. On the crate it self has points on it that shows the point value of the quest. (highlighted) I do not know how many crates you did have in your boat, but I am guessing that you only lost those points that were in your hold. I may be wrong. But That is a guess. So please let me know after you do the same amount type of quests if anything goes back to normal. I would be curious to see if I am right. Good luck and never stop fishing!!! :)

When I was actively doing the fishing quests for a while on one shard, I put the quest information in a spreadsheet so it was easier to keep track of what I needed to get, where it was going, and also what the rewards were for the various quests. At any one point in time it was pretty easy for me to see which types of fish, crabs, and lobsters I needed to acquire by one means or another.

When I decided to take a break from the game for a month or two, it really wasn't difficult at that point to just spend a little time getting the few lobsters and crabs and shore fish I needed to finish up a couple of quests. It also wasn't hard to just refuse newly offered quests. It took me maybe two hours or so, if I recall correctly, to wrap everything up with that galleon and its quests and dry dock it.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is that IF you get yourself into doing the fishing quests, you should always be aware of what you really need to have to finish off all your quests at any particular point in time and just stop taking new quests if you think you're getting yourself too far behind on being able to fill them. That's all I can really suggest. Just be smart about taking the quests and be aware of the time you're going to be able to commit towards doing them.

Yes, it might be nice if the reputation hit was a bit less for cancelling quests. But really, I think anyone who gets into doing the quests just has to be smart about it and just slow down or stop taking quests if you know you're going to have to break off from doing them for a while.

And as far as the decay issue goes, if everything's been fixed properly, I believe the decay cycle for the galleons is almost two weeks long. If you're doing quests and are that worried about losing them, I would suggest you should also be keeping track of when you last refreshed your galleon and try to find the 5 minutes (at most) that it should take to log in, refresh it, and update your notes. Or make sure a trusted friend can do it for you in a pinch.

Bottom line for me is that the reputation hit for letting quest crates poof is a pain in the neck, yes. However, if you're really into doing the quests and think the rewards are worthwhile, it makes for a very effective incentive to keep your account active and make you log in at least once every two weeks. Kinda hard to argue with that being a bad thing for UO and its players when you look at it that way.

I have no problem whatsoever with losing reputation over cancelling quests. I understand its need because, otherwise, players would simply cancel the bad quests and only accept the good ones if cancelling did not cause reputation loss.

But having one's own Reputation with the Fishmongers reset to zero as if one had never done any fishing quest before because one's own ship decayed, unwantedly, seems too much to me ....

So, I am Ok with losing reputation over cancelled or rejected quests but I am NOT ok with having to restart it all over from zero just because one's own ship decayed........ This is too extreme and unfair since a ship can also decay because one is unable to log in and refresh it (imagine situations like family emergencies, an illness, problems at work, whatever.....).

About as fair as having to redeed your ship that was scuttled, repaired and stayed scuttled, while being over 150 quests deep.

Also remember, you can decline a quest thats offered and still keep your reputation. Which I have since started doing regularly instead of leaving crates in my hold. Your ship has a chance of getting bugged like mine was. Repairing it made it look fine, but it remain scuttled until I redeed and replaced it, which was only accomplished by cancelling the quests I had opened.

I believe that when you throw quests overboard as has to be done in a ship decay, it takes you back to zero reputation, at least it did a couple years back when we were losing our ships to a bug. I only had 2 orders in the hold and had the maximum reputation receiving only orders for 20 quantities of fish. It took me back to single 5-10 quantity single item quests and I don't believe it has changed since then.

When I was doing fish quests, I would stop accept new orders, if I knew, I would be away from the game a few days or very low in fish, so it would take days before I was ready for new quests. Then I would dry dock ship.
With the decay we have now, I would had dry docked at the end of the day.

That is my understanding and I think that going back to zero reputation over a ship decay which can happen for a lot of unwanted reasons, is way too much a punishment to players to be fair.....
A ship decays not for choice of a player, but often as an unwanted accident.... so why should then a player have to restart one's own reputation with the Fishmongers from zero back all over because of it ??

I definatively think that something should be done about this.

Sure, if one could always anticipate decay risks then dry docking could help..... problem is, that as much as one might be willing to anticipate the future, it does can happen (at least it does to me...) that things in life get in the way with my gaming preventing me, even for extended periods, to log in the game and thus refresh the ship.......

As I said, losing the ship and even the items in the hold due to unwanted and not anticipated decay I can still live with, but also, on top of that, seeing one's own hard aquired reputation with the Fishmongers reset to zero ? No thanks, that sounds way too much to my taste because of unwanted and not possible to be anticipated decay .....

Something, IMHO, really should be done to prevent this (loss of reputation with the Fishmongers because of ship decay....).
