Player Named Corpses on Necromancy Pyramid

Does anyone know the story behind the player named corpses on top of the Necromancy Pyramid in New Haven?

Pretty sure EVERY character that dies on a shard gets a body on that pyramid shortly. I've actually marked that place for my PvPers as a quick and easy way to check if fights are happening. It seems to function like I described as far as I can tell. I know I've killed myself a few times trying to get my body back and checked there to see it on the temple. Would be fun to test it exactly.... I think perhaps the bodies stay a lot longer than normal at that location.

In New Haven, where you can get necromancy skills trained and the skill gain quest. Its northeast of the main area I think

ive asked this very question a couple times over the years and its never been answered by the Dev's, so we are left to speculate.

but i dont think its shard specific.
ive watched it a couple times and the names seem like they pull from the entire game maybe?
i know if you go to totally dead shards like Balhae they have big piles just like ATL, which dosnt make sense if it where just that shards dead.

would be kinda neat to hear from the Dev's exactly how this is done, since it has been in game for a looooooong time.
hell, thats assuming anyone on the current roster was here when it was put in and knows.

Interesting. I sorted through some of the names and I don't recognize most of them. A few are players I remember from times past and others I have no clue about. Do you find it to be pvp deaths or all deaths? If the latter, I'll have to keep an eye on it next time Halloween content rolls around.

Huh. I hadn't even seen that there WERE Necro quests in New Haven, though it makes sense for there to be. Interesting.

I just ran there in-game on Chesapeake (had to do a wide swing around to find it, it's just NE of the fighting skills quest givers and I started looking from the west because... I dunno, being me.) and didn't recognize a single name.

I have AOS clothing I bought years ago named "Two" and "Three", other than that I also don't recognize the names.

Years ago, I believe in the KR (Kingdom Reborn) client, when starting a new character you could build your characters skills up and then choose to duel the Dark Knight (in Old Haven). If you won against the Dark Knight the reward was a skill tutor statuette. You only got one chance. If you lost you were teleported to the top of the necromancy pyramid where you could see your corpse in a pile with all of the other losers. I managed to get a few statuettes but more often than not I got to view my corpse. Pretty sure that is how all of those bodies got there. When KR was scrapped the option for new characters to fight the Dark Knight ended. So far as I can tell (but I could be wrong) no new bodies have been added since that time. Hope this helps...

You can still fight the Dark Knight if you start a character in the EC and run through what laughably passes for an NPE, though I suggest you wait until you're at least GM, as he's no slouch. He will drop one of three items: Echo Staff, Ring of the Servant, Skill Tutor Statue. The staff and the ring are crap, and the statue functions the same as the Crystal Ball of Knowledge (which is WAY easier to get).

i tried getting in there the other day and the i got " that location is blocked" it was the first time i had tried, and i had made the character 2 days earlier. and of course the rune turned black, and is now unusable.
