Solo'd my first champ today

It was easier than I thought, using my vampire paladin template (swords, anat, tact, chiv, necro, parry, resist). Took me a bit longer than it maybe needed to, because I was not being efficient.

I did the Rikktor spawn in Destard - Felucca.

As this was my first, I have no standard of comparison. Can anyone comment on where you feel this guy, and his leading up spawn, ranks amongst the champs?

I wasn't planning on doing a spawn, and even when I started, it was as much to collect some spined leather as anything else, since I had just used a bunch up last night. So I did the first levels with just holy light.

Then I decided to go get a general purpose radiant scimitar, and did the lava lizard/ophid warrior levels.

Then I decided to go, swap over to my imbuer, and quickly whip up a reptile slayer radiant scimitar.

I was looting hides the whole time on the early levels. Got about 9k spined, a few K horned, and maybe 1k barbed.

Then Rikktor popped, and I was taking 81 damage when he hit me - so I decided to go get my armored swampy. Next time I will go do this first - before he kills me.

Once it was just me and him though, it was no problem.

70s studded armor (plate gorget) has me lose too much stamina though, even with 50 HSL on my dragon slayer broadsword, I was struggling to keep stamina high enough.

Also, next time, I will probably just go ahead and use some potions too.

Great job for a first spawn. Optimize your weapons and it will go faster in the future. Make it a goal to get through without any deaths as you improve.

I have used both a Daisho for the feint and a broadsword, both I crafted and are 100 cold damage for Rikkie. For the normal spawn I crafted a 100 cold damage Rad scim with hit cold area. If you bring pots you should be golden for doing the whole spawn inside of 25-30 mins. Don't forget to bring extra swamp armor and if you have an extra account disco helps alot plus you can protect for extra scrolls.

I found that the Daisho was a good weapon to learn the timing of his area effect but I normally use the broadsword for the higher AI damage.

Out of curiosity, assuming that one has a second account to use as a Bard running masteries while the main character fights the spawns, how does one actually keep the Bard alive ?

I mean, fighting the spawn with one character keeps one busy enough, and it is not like one can park the Bard somewhere alone and play the masteries on and on because eventually the spawn would kill the bard....

And even if one switched onto the bard to deal with spawn attacking the bard, then the one to get in trouble would be the other character who was fighting the spawn which would now fall prey to the surrounding spawn....

Bottom line is, I have a hard time seeing how this could be done.... practically.

It is easy to say put the bard on masteries and the fighter to fight the spawn but then, in practise, it ain't possible to just leave a character there to be overwhelmed by the surrounding spawn because one is manouvering the other character.....

I've never had an issue surviving the spawn itself at Rikktor, just Rikktor. Could hide the bard somewhere, then bring him in to discord Rikktor and cast the peace masteries too.

There is absolutely no reason that you'd need the bard on the spawn part - I can WW through 3 dragons and a few Ophidian Knight-Errants without issue.

It sure would be usefil on Rikktor himself though. If I was taking 30% less damage, and had +22 HPR, I am pretty sure I could just walk right up to Rikktor and AI him every hit till he died.

The same is true for the invasion masters in Blackthorns Castle Dungeon. The Wizard, for instance, Sunday did a 157 point combo (huge explosion spell, knocks me off my swampy and paralyzed me, flamestrike while still frozen, immediate 2nd huge explosion spell). I cannot survive this... It's reasonably likely, however, that I survive a 105 point combo.

The logistics of it still seem pretty cluncky though...

For bosses that have an area effect attack (Ricky, Cora, etc) it generally advisable to find "corners" to park the bard around. It can take a little trial and error, but most dungeons and such have them where the bard will be within range of the sampire but will not take damage or get retargeted on when the area effect goes off.

Everyone has already answered Popps question. I'll normally toss a few EV's into the spawn while waiting for a human skilled hide to work, it's given me a fair number of drops over the years here and there.

I did Rikktor again today, this time didn't loot anything, and just tried to be efficient. No deaths, and it took me ~40 minutes.

I was inspired and completed my first solo champ last night. I thought that the drake level was the most difficult due to the fact I would get impatient and wade into a cluster of spawn and get mana/breath dumped on. I only died once killing Rikki but did have mana issues. At the end I just hit feint/swing/AI/swing and repeated that pattern.

It really isn't too bad on most spawns, the hardest part for me is just completing the spawn without getting raided.

I'm just fooling around on ilsh spawns for now. I suppose if I'm going to do a fel spawn I'll try to do it during off hours.

I've done 4 spanws, got raided once. Some reds come through, scare me off, then let their blue buddy finish the spawn. Of course, they wait until the spawn is on the last few candles to even bother me too.

I'm going to ponder carrying around some more PVP oriented weaponry - to say I was unimpressed with the guy who raided me would be a huge understatement.

I did the rikktor in ilsh again last night and had the same problem with the drake level of spawn. Died three times due to breath weapon/mana dump with paragons. Rikktor was the easy part.

In my opinion I think the fel spawns are the only ones worth even doing. You still get chance for arty, sots, skull and the bonus of the power scrolls. I'm on Atlantic so chance of raid is very high. I tend to head out to the lost lands to spawn. If I'm on with the guild then despise is a lot of fun if you don't mind some PvP.

The only use for the trammel spawns that I can see would be practice, since you can push past stuff etc.

Which T2A locations do you choose?

As I said in another thread, I've tried 2 so far, and spend too much time trying to deal with the monsters that spawn in unreachable places (on roofs, on hills etc) that is 1) takes 2x as long and 2) is a real PITA once you reach the levels where the casters can actually pose a thread.

I think I've done the spawn outside Ice Dungeon, but that one is probably the easiest spawn in the game to raid so I don't find that pallatable.

I was thinking of bringing my boat, and checking out some of the, very far off the beaten path spawns. As long as I have Sacrifice topped up, the potential of a random death shouldn't be a problem.

I also have the ability to play at the DEAD times since I live in Europe. I usually feel pretty safe from raiding if I do a spawn at like 10am weekend mornings, since that is 4am eastern.

I am only doing those spawns for practice. I intend to hit destard this week and do one for real.

Did fel rikktor and it is way easier than the ilsh version. Unfortunately the Raiders showed up and waited until I had rikktor down to 10%. At least I know I can do it.

Yeah, the raiders are the thing. On my shard, they were offering to pay random people a bounty/finders fee: You go ghost camming around, let us know when someone is doing a spawn, we'll show up when they pop the champ, you get to keep the gold/loot the champ.

Ghost camming? What is it 2004?

2004? I'd say more like 1998!

It's pretty obvious that one guild holds the monopoly on champ spawns on my shard.

Such is life. When they raid me I just think about how when they were practicing PvP in high school, I was out getting laid. :)

That was the offer that was laid out to me when I responded affirmatively to someone asking in gen chat "hey, anyone want to make some easy money?". I met the guy in some quiet area of Luna, and that's what he laid out as his guild's plan. At the time I was just back from a rather long hiatus of nearly 2 years, and was a bit short on cash. I still found this to be one of the more ridiculous suggestions as a way to make (fake) money.

Finished rikktor in fel tonight with zero deaths and pulled120 Magery and 120 Eval. If I hadn't eaten them with my mystic mage I would have at least quadrupled my fake net worth.

You should take another player along to "protect" you. This way you will get another 6 scrolls. The protector needs to be a knight of justice though. They don't need to attack the champ. Just be there.

Tuan

Yeah to need to be a Knight of Valor, and I think it drops you down to being basically the bottom of knighthood. You're usually back to 100% valor before you're half way through soloing the spawn.

If you wanted, you could just pop spawns all day long...

Also much better off if they don't attack the champ or spawn. If they get a scroll it isn't duplicated.

or a second account......we use to have a character hidden away from the area around the spawn.....that character would protect us and then we would stealth her out and get extra 6 scrolls

Chessy. I created on Chessy the first day the shard went live, never really played much elsewhere since. It seems, though, that I will at least need to considering making a partial move to ATL.

come to cats and I will champ with you :) Years ago I had a champ group...four of us did at least one every day. It was profitable and a lot of fun. I just got back myself but I assume my peace necro mage template still eats the spawn at a starting rate :)

Thanks for the offer, but seems like quite a bit of effort just to get a couple extra scrolls per spawn. Like I said, I've been on Ches since just a few hours after the shard went live...
