Minax Artifacts and Blackthorn Dungeon

I took a break (accounts stayed active) and returned recently. I have been killing in Blackthorn's for the Minax points. I have camped every area except the mages and hellhounds as there are usually another player there...well change that, there is normally a character or dragon there but I believe they are on auto-pilot.

I am curious what is considered a decent drop rate per hour for the artifacts?

I get a couple per hour. I've heard of some folks doing better than that, but the way the RNG rolls for me in this game that's my average.

I am working it now to get some new bits and bobs and I am dropping around 2-3 arties per hour on an archer

I have found on hounds or ele's or liches .. or mages if I was going to sit there for a day.. ill average 1 an hour..

Sometimes ill get a couple in an hour.. sometimes ill go over an hour with nothing.

Pretty hit and miss.

If you get a couple of guys and do beacons .. you can get way more an hour.

If it's like most of the other drops in UO it should be based on the amount of fame you get from the creature you kill. I'd imagine is Fame = Point Value per kill.

If you kill captains it's by far the fastest way to get minax arties, as long as you don't die. Solo, you can get 2-3 drops every 5 minutes killing the captains. Obviously it depends on which captains, and what the slayer group is. Demons/Reptile groups would take longer.


I don't farm in there much, but I know I was getting between 3-5 minax drops an hour at evil mages, luck is supposed to make a difference there, (I have 770 luck normally) when I'm farming for them.

On a side note.. somedays .. the drop rate is better.. then one an hour.. but for me that's hit and miss too.

With everyone I have talked to.. they agree.. about 1 an hour just killing monsters.

I found I got more dropping the Baulron.... He respawns immediately and was pretty easy to take down me and my Greater. I got 2 or 3 in an hour.

ill have to try it when im not invis.. watching while at work. maybe ill get a day off someday haha

Your solo drop rate is what people are getting though they dare not mention it: it is far more sexy to say "Oh ya, I get three drops minimum per hour there."

@CovenantX, how do you kill a captain every 5 minutes?

hit harm or hit lightening. on an AI weapon for the ones that have decent resistances, and you use a Double Strike weapon with harm or Lightening for the ones that have low resistances.

I usually use a wammie template to farm them.


for somereason, (this may be a bug) but when hit harm, or lightening procs on mobs in blackthorn dungeon, it makes the weapon hit as if the mob is affected by a slayer.

if im not mistaken if your hidden or invised you lose some of the 'points' you'd normally get if unhidden.
or at least they put that in a couple years ago when hidden tamers where all the rage for getting faction silver.

id assume its still the same, so you'll get less if your hidden then if not, but then you run the risk of having to get targeted or even being there.

i have had the same drop rate .. on a hidden tamer.. a samp out in the open.. and an archer in the open and a mage in the open.

No difference being hidden or not.

roughly Zero... for about 15 hours of killing mages (just logged out after about 2 hours there) .... not sure on the odds given out here. I may give it one more try but I am fairly annoyed with wasting time there. It is starting to remind me of attempting for a fishing ps for well over a year (no breaks in the chain, daily fishing) to receive none. Rarity is nice and fun but ... near impossible odds is more annoying.

That's odd, York - I just spent a couple of hours killing the evil mages there earlier, after months of not doing anything there, and got two Minax item drops...

I just returned from my first trip and was killing Liches with my GD. Now, I was hidden, but was there, watching to see how this goes. Spent not quite an hour, because at about the 45 minute mark, the liches quit spawning?? LOL, is that normal? Oh yeah, in 45 minutes, next to nothing in luck, got zero arties.

With 2,300 Luck on my Tamer/Mage with a Bane Dragon or Greater Dragon, i get between 4-6 an hour at the Evil Mages. I'm completely attended and not invissed/hidden though.

Yep, that was also put in for the Anti-Virtue Dungeon Artifacts. Or was it the Books of Truth? Tamers used to sit hidden in a corner of the EG Rooms in Shame with a Cu Sidhe, and farm them. Then they made it to where if you're hidden when a pet/summon scores a kill, you only get a fraction of the credit.

i spend 3-4 nights a week there for 12+ hrs at a time farming. using different chars. never ever have i gotten that many in a single hr.

but maybe me and the others farming them and claiming an average of one an hour are just unlucky.

i know i sat in there 2 nights with hidden tamers to see what id get.
i run 3 computers side by side so i was playing on the middle one and had the 2 side ones in there farming.

then on the 3rd and 4th night i went in and actually farmed it unhidden and active.
i went from 1-2 a hour when i was just hidden to 3-4 a hour when active.
same tamers, same luck suits, same pets.

im a slave to empirical data.
when i see something with my own eyes i believe it, couple that with the Devs telling us that they changed the code to reflect that...
so when asked if a person gets more attended with luck on i have to say yes.

Yeah, sometimes i go in there and get only 3 in an hour, sometimes i go in there and get 6 in an hour, 4 is my average. But i am in a 2,300 Luck suit and not hidden/invissed at all. A Mage locks on me, i heal through it until my pet comes over and 1-2 shots him.

I'm almost certain that luck in there works as luck elsewhere - won't affect the drop rate but will affect the intensities of properties on the items. So if working the area just to get Minax items to turn in for Blackthorn ones, it may work out better to have other properties on the suit than luck. Of course if you want high-powered Minax items to use as they are, luck should matter a lot

Ok i went back yesterday ... and received some gloves. For me it did not seem to be worth the effort; however it was pleasing to see that is actually worked... now for that fishing PS. HAhaha... sigh..
