I found that your reply piqued an interest in me as to 'why' you wouldn't think that some would tell the truth? Just curious on your opinion on that. :)
Because internet. Back on topic though, I am a giant man-child.

I am inclined to believe that I am female.
If your not 100% sure, my mage has researched some new secret tests to determine this with complete accuracy. If it appears you are female, testing usually can be completed as quickly as 7 or 8 months. Stop by my castle!

I am not so sure this would be a great idea.
I am of barbarian descent. I am wary of mages and their sorcerous ways. I much prefer to trust a steel blade in my left hand to crush my enemies, see them driven before me and hear the lamentations of their women.

Mages can never be trusted. That one that some call Tim lead Arthur and his trope to an ambush, making them face a vicious beast where many good knights fell.
That Gandalf guy let the fate of the world in the hands of two children.

And my father once told me and I quote him when I was a wee lass:

"Fire and wind come from the sky, from the gods of the sky. But Crom is your god, Crom and he lives in the earth. Once, giants lived in the Earth, Conan. And in the darkness of chaos, they fooled Crom, and they took from him the enigma of steel. Crom was angered. And the Earth shook. Fire and wind struck down these giants, and they threw their bodies into the waters, but in their rage, the gods forgot the secret of steel and left it on the battlefield. We who found it are just men. Not gods. Not giants. Just men. The secret of steel has always carried with it a mystery. You must learn its riddle, Beatrice. You must learn its discipline. For no one - no one in this world can you trust. Not men, not women, not beasts."
He then pointed to a steel blade and told me that that I could trust. So I only trust it now. :p

I'm as guy as you can get. More than half my characters are female just because though.

My wife also plays, her characters are mostly female, I think she has one male.

I always said you could tell a guy playing a female character because guys don't understand fashion (i.e. mismatched tops/armor/shoes).

I just stopped caring who is male and who is female a while ago, it doesn't really matter in the scheme of things, even for things like ventrilo they could always use a voice changer. Although it was a bit of a shock when I found that out of the 26 female characters in my guild....only 2 are female...lol...

A guy knows how a guy thinks? Or a female knows how a guy thinks? If it's the latter, of course we do.
:p

You do indeed, and are always so quick to tell us what we think :p

These topics often come up in the summer months, it's hot, people are secretly horny, time to discuss gender in a nudge nudge, say no moar way... I remember back in 2003 a "Post your face" thread on the old uo.com boards, which lead to some... interesting ... off the boards activity, shall we say. I also remember getting a dating proposal on my female character out mining in Despise once, and anger when I explained in game gender doesn't always match out of game. So I can understand people not wanting to be direct about the match; I've met some seriously damaged ladies and some aggressively lustful men depending on where I've been on the in game gender scale, and none of it is particularly accurate, useful or, if real life has given you way too much of one kind of experience, really welcome in game too.

Still I do try and play honestly where ever I am. So... yes, male in real life, 1 female character currently in game.

I hope everyone reading this "poll" realizes it is not a scientific survey, and says absolutely nothing about the male-female ratio of UO players. Assuming everyone answered honestly, all this poll tells us is the male-female ratio of those people reading UHall.

I have a few male characters, as a role player, I RARELY talk in game if I'm on a male character. If I do it's in guild or party chat. I don't role play with those chars. OR they're characters I use for specific things and stick them back into moth balls. I can't convincingly play a male character in rp, it is quite obvious what gender I am. Though for ages many of my "female" friends in game were G.I.R.Ls (Guys in real life)

I think the other side of this is that as a female char you get more armor choices, and back in the late 1990s you really did get many more gifts and perks from vet players if you were a female character. I can't tell you in the day how many fellas sat and talked with me as I picked cotton in Moonglow, gifted me with beginners gear etc.

It's actually still pretty common for female characters to get treated extra well and gifted things.
This is quite true. Especially if they find out you really ARE a girl.

Course I also must say you have NO IDEA how many marriage proposals I've had over the years. Not for in-game marriage either... dozens of marriage proposals for RL.

Long ago, I was in a small guild that consisted of 5 guys and me. It became a weekly thing to be presented with boxes of gems that the guys found on their journeys into dangerous places. I saved those gems and eventually had enough to sell them to purchase our guild stone. I was also gifted with magical female armor they found as well.

Hmmm...I'm male in RL and this question just made me think about my characters. My crafting mules tend to be evenly mixed between the genders but my warriors (swords, fencing, archery) are all male. My mages/tamers/bards are all females. Not something I did consciously...interesting.
