We need channel's moderators, to move pvp talk etc to proper channels....

People in gen chat incessantly whining for a focus are just as frequent and annoying as any pvp talk imo.
I thought I heard someone say it does do it that way now. I don't actually use ignore

Don't get hurt but I'm saying your thread is a waste of time. It's not directed at you more than you posted it so please don't take it as a personal slagging, I'd hate for that mistake to be made....
This topic has been brought up since the first day chat went live, limited solutions have been given but all of those have been ignored by nearly everyone who feel the evil PvP people should be living in a dark pit. It's not perfect but there are work arounds but you would have to actually use them.
My skin is plenty thick enough. I just loathe most the BS that I am bombarded with in General Chat. I don't want to have to stop what I'm doing every few moments to add yet another person to my ignore list. I should have to.
And I agree with many folk this is NOT the kind of thing that newer players ought to be seeing and subjected to. Yes I'm aware there is a "Help" channel but on my shard I don't think it's used.
I agree it would solve many issues if you could be in more than one chat channel.
And what sort of image will new players be given if they listened to most the junk in chat? First off the autobot spamming the sale of gold is bad enough to be subjected to every 30 seconds....
And honestly 90% of the shard could care less what happens in Fel. And at least on my shard the bragging about cheats, hacks and other BS is disturbing.

For me it's not a matter of dermal depth, but I've put a couple on ignore because they create too much inane noise when the rest of us are trying to chat.
Its when u are not able to handle it you get annoyed. If you try to conversate with someone - and have to scroll ur journal to the top for to try to see if u got a reply...and reliaze its too way up... and you have to ask again what the answers was...and your screen is flooded... - ye, then I get annoyed.
lol it's nothing to do with having thick skin. It's just boring.
You can dress it up in anything you'd like, it'll still be what it always was.
1) lets be real here, UO doesn't attract many new players and even the ones that it does, gen. chat is the least of their concerns. I'm sure they notice the dated graphics, lag, and lack of population before they notice the gen. chat.
2)if they are a new player, they're probably familiar with other mmo's/online gaming. In which case UO is by far one of the tamer ones (due to its old and small player base).
3)As others have said, this should be a non issue. Gen. chat doesn't impact gameplay, there are work arounds (that require just a tiny bit of effort), and the whole argument is totally biased and subjective (pvp talk is annoying but spamming for a focus or selling items isn't?)
People complained for years about the lack of a global chat. Now we have one and can see the good and the bad it brings. Deal with it and move on. There are more important things to worry about.

If you really deem trash talk/trolling/debate/conversation between your fellow players so annoying that ' every few moments' you feel urge to stop and start ignoring people, why do you insist on having the general chat on your screen at all? I'd assume a person who has chosen to keep it on can at least tolerate(if not enjoy) the idea of the server being busy to hate, like annoy, talk to one another.
As I play on a different shard, I don't know the extent on MalagAste's home. I myself have no problem with most, and some with their attempts at trash-talking are amusing enough that I started keeping General open for all my characters. There is a small number, though, whose constant inanities make my eyes bleed.

I will say that in chat there is some foul rants and ravings at times on Atl. but for the most part it has been pretty tame on other shards.
If we ever got back to a nice size population I could see perhaps the GM's monitoring if on shard or perhaps the new advocates...

I keep it on so I can help decent folk who have questions. I keep it on to help folk find things... I keep it on to sometimes buy something neat someone is selling... I keep it on to use it to remind folk of upcoming events... I keep it on so I can help people get a Circle... I keep it on to join folk in doing some hunt... etc....
I don't care to be subjected to listening to a bunch of fellies trash talk one another and boast and carry on about stuff no one cares about... If I did I'd be in Fel watching it... and picking off the weak whenever I wanted and it wouldn't be hard to find out where they were either since they can't stop telling everyone... But since 99% of the rest of the folk in General Chat could care less I still can't figure out why they feel the need to give us a play by play of who's doing what where.
I think the spam would be more tolerable ( for the CC anyway ) if they'd put the chat in a separate gump/window. That way it wouldn't cover a third of the gameplay area ( the main reason I don't use gen chat ). Or even go one further and allow us to drag names from gen chat and drop them in separate windows/gumps that we could move to an out of the way spot on screen or minimize.
As a returning player, I see loads on the general chat that could be moved to more local chat channels its not just the PvPers. To single out the PvPers is just wrong. What about those who constantly spam what ever it is they are selling. Those requiring spell weaving circle. Those standing at Luna bank spamming a gate to a shop. The list goes on and on.

It's my experience that half the chest-thumping comes from Luna bank...
Bottom line is that anyone so offended by pvp talk(or any other annoying chat)that doesn't just turn it off is most likely an intolerant and crabby old a-hole that will not be satisfied no matter what the devs do.
Next time try to disguise your overall incomprehension and hatred for pvp a little better maybe?

If this was really such a big deal, and it truelly had a effect on a larger player base vs a few fuddly people, one could just make a channel called "X what ever" and all of the people who wanted to join could thus avoiding the whole PvP chat. We all know this won't happen though as the chance to come on this board and rant far outweighs the effort to solve the percieved issue.
Sadly it seems that the same small group of people bring this up every 3-4 weeks in one way or the other and they would just be happy if anyone who considered PvP left the game.

I have never posted anything about this before - dont know where you got that from. Wild accusations doesnt help. I am also a regular reader of stratics boards, so - plz enlighten me and show me the previous threads about this.

Please, it might not be this specific topic but global chat and the pvp element is a near constant "discussion" on this board.
As one who cares not for the "bickering" of the chat channel.
In the respect of the PVP chat that intermingles with normal conversation of buyer /seller and just the general talk of the shard.
It can be quite disturbing to hear the types of language that comes across the screen when a heated battle of wills in the pvp area gets going. Let's face it some is rather vulgar and not something you want your children to read.
It amazes me on how far they are going in this for a game....
Rather then yelling in chat to knock it off... it would be more reasonable to send them to their own channel.
The question is who should judge who is put there...
Granted the talk gets heated and I am no prude but ladys and gentilmen the talk is not something you can say in mixed company.
When two or more get going the foul language bombs fly.
They care not who reads them and if you say something its considered to be intrusion on their rights because its pvp.
There is only one point here and I do see all sides...
Our only judge in anythingof the game is not how or what WE feel is apropreate for the channel but what the DEV will allow to fly.
Their is language filters and squelching of language on our own... some work ... some dont.
In the Dev angle, they have little time to police the chat...
We all know who this will fall on...

No doubt but then you could put the Malas facet on ignore too and if you don´t want that you can use single player ignore for the "Luna" people.It's my experience that half the chest-thumping comes from Luna bank...
All I know is that if "Facet ignore" were an option a lot of people would be happy and it wouldn´t affect the PvPers at all. Win-Win.
