ouch! (a comical sad story)

finally converted my 2-story villa into a customizable and built my first home. hooray! altho what a nightmare that was. after converting to customizable, i found that i could not simply resize the plot, had to demolish the old house first, which means everything must come out. no biggie, my shard is pretty slow, i just dragged all my chests and things out and set em on the ground nearby and demolished the house. except i had one of those ter-mur placeable rugs on my floor, which did not wind up in my moving crate, and when i demolished, it wound up on the grass and i could not pick it up, it was preventing placement of the new plot. had to call a gm. im waiting. with all my belongings decaying on the ground. omg the panic lol. after 15 minutes of freaking out, i placed a small house just to move my 1000s of pounds of belongings inside and lock it down. 5 minutes later, GM shows up, deletes the carpet pieces, yay im ready to place. unlock my belongings, drag them back outside, go to demolish the temporary small house- whoops sorry, you must wait 1 hour before demolishing another house! sigh... drag it all back inside... =D

but i digress! the real ouch is once i finally place the house, i build myself a nice place with a work shop outside. i was still juggling chests from the move, i had taken one of the chests and secured it inside the work shop. when i get around to decorating, i go to the workshop and decide i want a workbench in there. i release the chest and drag it out of the work shop, leave it on the walkway in front of the house, and start crafting some stone tables to go in there. im sure you see where this is going =) yes that looks nice, maybe ill lock down some tools on the tables, yes, and my keg full of ingots and boards goes over here, yes, and i wish to place a trash barrel, nice. finished with that, i head inside and do some other things...

i totally forgot about that chest. it belonged to my fisherman. i lost 2 galleon class ships, one with full cannons. about 3500 bandages. several t-maps and MIBs. about 100 shots of cannon supplies- im talking cannon balls, grape shot, powder charges, fuse cords, everything. who knows what else was in there, thats all i can remember =P

bad day! 3 days later im still hurting! =D (i am not a gazillionaire, this was a significant chunk for me!) just thought id share my sad story. wish stuff didnt decay in a house!

thanks for the offer =) im on napa tho. it really is ok, its just one of those dumb mistakes you cant stop kicking yourself for. like maybe i should go check inside my house for the 50th time, maybe its in there.... =D

If it makes you feel any better, I reciently did this with a box with glacial spellbooks, ruined tapestry, and some other high end deco that I purposly am trying not to remember.

Sorry for your losses. I am sure many of us know your pain. Just recently I lost 2 davies lockers with over 100 level 6 maps..among other things that I cannot (and don't care to) remember in a house-moving-lock-down mishap. Takes a while to get over sometimes but Sosarian life goes on!

Oh I also remembered one, I had a beetle at moonglow docks Loaded with white nets, 120 of them. Well someone brought the snakes back to far but didnt say anything.....By the time we had dont 5 scalis and I went back to get more.....he was long since dead and decayed....

I lost a whole box of the Vanq, Power weapons we got during that Britain invasion years ago. I had some awesome ones too... I'm still sad about that one. was moving from house to house to house and realized awhile later that my box of those vanished... also had some old school other weapons in it.

Since I've lost about half a billion worth of stuff over the years, I can say that anybody who says "They're just pixels" hasn't thought it through. It's hours of work, memories, accomplishments. I really hate the fact that you can lose stuff in your house if you forget to lock it down, just because some people like to use their house floors as trash cans with the reset. How about you can't log out without a nag screen unless everything is either locked down or trashed, would that interfere too much with everybody's role-playing ideals too much?

I would not want to travel a land where I was not responsible and held accountable for my own actions. Having lost a few billion in items over the years, a few hard lessons tend to sharpen my skills and this foggy old memory from time to time.

Well, we already get a warning asking us if we really want to go into fel and another warning asking if we really want to commit a criminal action and another warning asking if we really want to unravel an item made of special materials and another warning asking if we really want to place a house - and I still have a sense of accountability for my actions but appreciate the warnings. I'd say it all depends on how easy for the program to check security status of items on logout - if it doesn't require too much work, I see more good than harm.

just a heads up on the stuck carpet pieces.....u can use telecanesis spell on the said stuck carpet pieces which unlocks them and u simply pick them up yourself...rather than wait for GM .....just for next time ok ....and yah i think most players have suffered the ''forgot to lock that chest down'' or ''forgot to lock that item down'' over there many years of playing...it does hurt..even though they are replaceable cartoon pixels.[end]
