A thing that I think they should do with the EM events. Is once a month each shard should have their own vending machine event item drop..
This lets everyone that attends a drop and a cool item.. Its only once a month, so just 12 different drops a year per shard..
Maybe even run the event on all shards at the same time and date... Makes you pick a home shard for the event arc...
Maybe have the event item dropped follow a type of guideline per say. Have the item represent that specific shard and its history..
Maybe for the monthly event have a giant invasion on one of the towns... Have a continued storyline of protecting the lands and towns for that shard..
Set up different leaders of the invading army for each shard. This would give every shard its own type of storyline for the event arc. Would also produce a storyline for the shards drops to be based on.
Not sure if other shards are doing this. On Catskills the EM shows up at random and sets an attack on a city. He sets out a call to arms and we go protect the town from deamons or such..
Its fun running to the call and defending a town..
This type of event sets up well for rp players to.. Can set up different factions to protect the towns....
Have some events here and there were you must protect a caravan as it goes from one town to the other.... A town needs provisions to help rebuild after a invasion or something like that.. The supplies needs to make it at all costs type of scenario.
It would give every type of player a cool deco item once a month to deco there lovely houses..
Its fun hitting cool deco item or cool types of armor. This would spread that feeling to the entire community regardless of play style..
Lots of players take PRIDE in their playing their "Home" Shard and this, I think, is a VERY good thing because, it CAN, with a better PvP engine and system, open room to a whole world of EPIC Battles of a Shard vs. Shard (sort of players' invasions of other Shards and Shards' rivalries and stuff like that....).
So, the Shards' Event items could become part of this Shards' pride IF they stayed Shards' stationed and not be moved all over the Shards reducing their Shard's meaningfullness.....
I read posts of players mentioning how they feel particularly attached to their Shard be it Napa, Great Lakes, Origin, Atlantic, Pacific, Catskills and so forth, and how those shards will always mean something special to them even if they now and then transfer to some other Shard.
Well, let's make this become an assett for the game, let's fortify this feeling of pride to be part of a Shard, belong to a given Shard and move it forward with Epic PvP battles Shard vs. Shard. Perhaps, organized and layed out by the Event Moderators of the Shards involved, leading their respective Shards' armies as their Captains ?
But to get to that point, we first need the Shard's PRIDE feeling to solify, to root into the hearts of the players of those Shards and I think that Shards' Events could have a role into this if they were not just for the drops and their hundreds of millions gold worth......
What I am trying to say, is that I think that perhaps, if the various Shards would not be seen by players as being all the same, but would be able to be differentiated by distinct uniquenesses, different history, unique player base distinct for each Shard, this could maybe hopefully build up as being a great assett for the development and the future of Ultima Online ? Perhaps Shards' Events can help the building up of this Shard's uniqueness and history ?
I like this game a whole lot and would love to see great things for it.....
