I don't think its a troll post. He has a valid point. In the recent video with the devs they said RTB in May and it ain't happened. If they didn't have any intention of running RTB they shouldn't of said anything in the first place.I think the OP is just trolling with this kind of post.
109 months and counting thanks. But since you need an explanation of why I care, I have 3 former players looking to come back and check things out. Ya know, like what Return to Brittania is meant for? I told them about it when it was talked about in that lame state of UO video. They keep asking, I keep saying end of the month or so. So I kind of feel like an idiot about the whole thing now.Boohoo... freebie gametime needs a bit longer...
Methinks you should ragequit your sub... umm, wait! You got none? Well...
Tricky!?!
See my previous comment.I think the OP is just trolling with this kind of post.
End of discussion? Please?
Perhaps. But I doubt they are going to say anything on a Saturday so was figuring this week sometime or at least today...Friday....Perhaps something came up which has caused them to delay it?
The team usually do what they've said they'll do - but sometimes the timetable hits a problem.
That's a vaild point. Nevertheless I don't see, what could be discussed here. People are either on pro Broadsword side or on the contra Broadsword side (which most probably would give them a bad reputation).109 months and counting thanks. You do realize at UO.com there is a 14 Day free trail available. Your 3 former players can come back and check things out immediately. After 14 days they can decide whether they like the changes and would like to subscribe again. The free 14 day trail has been available for anyone for a long time and there is no need to ever wait for RTB to see the changes.109 months and counting thanks. IIRC, the past RTB's were 30 days. Sooner or later, it has diminishing returns and becomes FTP, which is where I think you were going without saying it.I wonder what might happen if they extended RTB's duration. It is,,what, 2 weeks now?
What would happen if they made it..say, two months? Hell, four months while at it." Spend Summer In Britain!" Would we see more people appear? More subs come autumn?
While you are right, RTB would allow a former player to access their old accounts, see whats on there and to play the game at what ever level they are. This would be preferable to a 14 day trial where you are building a new character. You do realize at UO.com there is a 14 Day free trail available. Not really. (profitable) F2P takes much more than just stopping to ask money from your players : D Month sounds pretty decent. I could have sworn last RTB I benefitted from was less than that. 10 days?IIRC, the past RTB's were 30 days. You do realize that the point behind RTB is that it allows players to have the benefit to return with their old accounts with fully trained characters that they once loved, right? Experiencing the current state of UO through a trial account simply pales in comparison to experiencing it through ones own account. And if interested players are thinking about returning only to find out that RTB is about to kick-off, you can't blame them for wanting to wait for it. Surely you have seen posts on these forums of old vets thinking about returning and then being told that RTB is coming up. If they aren't sure about the new game changes or if their friends are around then they can use the free 14 day trial to check. Assuming they liked what they saw then they could immediately reactivate that old account and character they love so much. Or being confined to playing on TC1. Even on a Trial account, normal shards give you limited access to Felucca once you renounce your (Young) status - you can't enter dungeons or the Lost Lands. While you are right, RTB would allow a former player to access their old accounts, see whats on there and to play the game at what ever level they are. I HAVE an active account at 109 months. I am wanting RTB for my old friends to come check out the game with their old accounts and hopefully re-sub. I mean did you read what I wrote? You sound as bitter and attitudinal as Popps. Wow.If they aren't sure about the new game changes or if their friends are around then they can use the free 14 day trial to check. I mean if someone is waiting 109 months just for RTB, then there must be a reason they really really want to access that account for free. And please don't tell me its because they want to reactivate their veteran subscription.
Yes I read exactly what you wrote and sorry if you think I'm bitter. I'm not at all. I was only trying to show you how your friends can come and check things out for free immediately without having to wait for RTB. Good luck to you.I HAVE an active account at 109 months. Sure, I agree with most of that. However, the key factor here is that Broadsword already announced that they would be doing an RTB event, which is why many people are waiting. If they hadn't announced their plans for doing the event sometime around now most people wouldn't be waiting and we wouldn't even be discussing this, lol.If they aren't sure about the new game changes or if their friends are around then they can use the free 14 day trial to check. Every time I try to get friends to get back on UO I always get the same response "have they opened a classic server yet". If you check out the UO Facebook page pretty much every comment is people asking the same question.Start your own RTB. E-Mail friends.
They could easily set one up I think. I mean all these freeshards manage it but the official UO team cant?Same here. i have 3 friends who would play a classic shard.
1. The freeshard has only to maintain a single server. UO has something like about 20 shards? They could easily set one up I think. I mean all these freeshards manage it but the official UO team cant?
Yes they would. People would want to have bugs fixed, etc...Would they really have to support the server? It's not like any new content would be added so it should be bug free (lol), right?
Yup. I'm still learning how the game has changed since my last RTB (2010), and there's still a lot of stuff I don't know...nor will I ever, most likely, because it doesn't suit my interest. I've been on my own RTB since May anyway. It's not like $12 a month (for the only UO account I'll ever have) hurts the wallet. As far as RTB goes, its easy getting old players to take a walk down memory lane, getting them to stay in a world that is so damn overwhelming is a different story.
i wouldnt call it small... its safe to say the Majority of UO players play free servers. Im not going to argue numbers, but if you do a little research its pretty obvious. The devs have decided to ignore that portion of the player base which is fine, but to say its not a Massive group of UO players is just not factual.3. Freeshards have just a small community. And BS has to run a business. Not everybody wants a "classic" (whatever that word means anyway) shard. Lots of people want to see the devs focus on other things, new features, items, bugfixes whatever...
Who now?OSI UO's resources.
It's like the old joke about asking 10 economists and getting 11 answers.Yeah but DJad, next time someone mentions a "classic server," you need to respond with "Define classic server." I bet you get a different answer every time from every person.
Agreed...it is a very big community that is being ignored. Hell, make it a separate charge for the classic server. Want to play both then pay for both. Small staff to iron out some bugs that pop up and an em or two for events and it's all pure profit from there.i wouldnt call it small... its safe to say the Majority of UO players play free servers. Ok, so I googled this site called "Ultima Online Top 200 - UO Shards and Servers" which lists a lots of freeshards. I checked the top ten. From these quite a few displayed the current player count. The numbers were 160, 27, 43, 163, 71, 20. That's a total of 484 players spread across 6 of the top 10 servers. Now these numbers don't really impress me. Also it doesn't tell you, if someone is logged in with more than 1 account, etc.i wouldnt call it small... its safe to say the Majority of UO players play free servers. The biggest site is not on that list and commands a very, very large amount of online players. Do a little more research and you will see active shards. After all, Ultima Online is forever played ! Then you may see what some of us are saying about missing the boat on a loyal playerbase.Ok, so I googled this site called "Ultima Online Top 200 - UO Shards and Servers" which lists a lots of freeshards. And of course, we have absolutely no clue, how many people officially pay at least one official account. Only BS knows and for some reason they're not telling us nor would I expect, that they will do so in the near or even far future. Also I think, that taking numbers from various UO forums of how many users are registered there or actively posting doesn't give any clue about the size of the playerbase.
With that said, I think, assuming that the majority of all players plays freeshards is nothing more than a wild guess, not based on any real facts. Could be true, but my personal opinion on that matter is, that more than 50% of all players worldwide are paying customers of BS.
Agreed, the lack of updates is a pretty big problem. I understand we can't get big updates all the time but we frequently go far too long without patches.Nice to see my thread resurrected. My two cents, I have quit the game about 2 months ago due to the lack of updates. Hilarious to see still no RTB. OlololoOlol. Sad.
