Please take this in the manner it is meant to be spoken, one of respect, one of understanding, and one of just an old player who's also an old coot.

My comments were just spitballing an old idea that might possibly help with what some see as a problem with housing. I remember thinking...."damn, why does this guy who ain't paying get to keep his big house when he doesn't pay and here I am paying each month and I can't even get a small in a decent location!"

That was then, this is now.....before I placed my existing home (and placing on ATL meant my 2month old tower on Baja was a goner), I had found a great spot for the cabin I was living in. When I placed the home I'm in now, I had to decide if I wanted to place the small less than a screen from Tram yew gate, a tower that had no access to water or any real trees or mining around it, a small on a finger tip of land jutting out into water, but no mining near by, or the IDOC location. Granted, I got lucky on the IDOC location. There were also a number of 18x18 spots avail in Fell, but I was looking for my top three.....fishing, mining, and LJing.

I really hate to say it, but those who don't place, for the most part, aren't paying close enough attention or are just being too picky and want it all and want it NOW! There are places to place! The places I mentioned above were the top choices out of dozens of home locations. I found 6/7 locations on Fire Island alone, that would hold a small to medium size home.

As too folks not paying for their accts but reaping the benefits....yes, there are reasons we should allow some of it (deployment, I'm a disabled vet, disasters in the region, etc) but I'm sorry, there are also reasons that some of it shouldn't be allowed. If UO can link two or more accts together, and only one is actively paying and the others show a pattern of paying once every 3-4 months, then why shouldn't the acct owners be requested to pay or lose the benefit others do pay for? I understand about the economic downturn, it has affected all of us, but that's not a reason to allow multiple acct holders a free ride....is it?

In this final comment, I'm sorry for your loss of your grandfathered accts....

I should have mentioned this above......this will not be solved or changed. I played the first 7 years of uo and about the end of year one this came up and was a heated topic as long as I can remember. If it hasn't been changed by now, it won't be changed.

So how's the story end, Mac? Which spot did you end up choosing on Atlantic of those four choices? Just wondering, since I ended up in a 10 x 15 a couple screens from the Yew gate.

Yes there are people who use the system.
Many who do have to use the system due to legit reasons shouldnt have to feel bad ether because it was nessassary to use it.
I'd only fear EA would lump all together no matter the reason and force many off the game if they used a heavy hand as they usualy do.
You got ot admit EA is the 600 lb gorilla in the room and has a tendancy to go over board.
This may come off wrong and I ask any who feel melinged... To forgive my bluntness.
It's none of our damn business.
Now if some idiot admits to it then i can see a Dev taking action... but I know the dev will double check the issue before any action.
You have to remember some run off at the mouth and dont think...
I dont pay their bills, feed their kids, work their job. They do.
Their reasons are many and I for one dont want ot dig into that kettle of fish!
We have all types of views on this very subject.
Outside Atlantic the need for a house plot is pretty moot..
Your quite right Players dont place as need dictates... ether.
There is only one of me..but I own 53 accounts with any 47 on at any given time(EA willing to bill that is).
I own homes up the kazoo, and I play in every bloody one too..hehe
Doesn't mean there are not those out there who wouldnt love to kick my arse off a spot or 2 to grab it for themselves...
I had one yell at me for keeping a castle spot they wanted...
I use not 1 macro to place .. im old school... it was pure skill and 17 years of UO training.
but we digress...
The issue is many have 1 house per account and well.... that house has limited them in space.
Many would rather ask for more lockdowns then move. Quite frankly I loved a small little house in the deep woods once....
Had it a big lock down limit I'd have never needed another house on that shard....
But alas I had tons of characters and no room for their "stuff".
EA didnt help ether.
Every patch, upgrade, and xpac....added to things I needed or wanted...
Sad to say that little cabin is long gone.... you dont want to know how many homes i now have there....
Asking for something in UO is getting fustrating.

I placed at an IDOC that is SSE of ICE. It's not an 18x18, but that didn't matter. I have access to the ocean, surrounded by trees for my LJing, and there's a mountain range less than a screen away for mining. For me, I'm in UO heaven only thing missing is the possibility of vendor traffic. At least as far as a home goes....gold, now that's a different story, lol.

And to all of you, if I came off rude, or as if I didn't care....forgive me, that was not the intent.

Glad to hear you found a spot to your liking! The new vendor search should take care of you vendor traffic.

end of the day there is plenty of space on every shard for tower/1818 except atlantic... there are 2-4 other shards with good higher than averge populous numbers..... see my world tour for that..... otherwise large keep sizes are good on most other shards and castle on quite a few of the low populated shards is a breezze
