Is woodland making me fail?

I've just finished making my new archer suit and I'm running hiding and stealth on my template.

At the moment I'm 80 real stealth and using the +10 cloak to bump it to 90.

Pretty much every time I try to move in stealth I fail.

My suit is made from 4x studded parts, a bone helm and woodland gloves.

On my other character with stealth I run a normal leather suit and have no problems walking in stealth at only 70 skill.

Is my armour to heavy and thus making me fail? Does anyone have a similar suit setup with stealth?

This is what UOGuide says:

Stealthing is more difficult when wearing heavier armor, which is also a factor in training. To stealth successfully once it has been trained, don't wear anything heavier than Leather Armor or Mage Armor.

Basic answer is 'yes'.
Woodland is the elven equivelant of plate. Studded is what one wears to train stealth, because it makes it harder to succeed.
Not sure how bone fits into the equation.

Bone is similar to studded armor. BUt the more you wear of medium to heavy armor the harder it is to stealth. If you go higher in skill, you should be able to stealth with your armor. But I believe, can't confirm, that it makes it easier to detect you even at higher skill.

So, I understand, "if" the woodland armor has the property "Mage Armor" then it would be no problem to stealth succesfully ?

Thanks for the replies guys n girls. After playing around a bit more it seems a lot better if I remove the bone helm. Maybe it's not the woodland after all. I'll copy to TC and try this out later.

Mage Armor allows the piece to act as if it were leather armor when stealthing.

This is correct. And Bone is equivalent to Plate. It's the leather version of plate. Leather, studded, bone, = Ring, chain, plate,....= leaf, hide, ______, I know there are Samurai equivalents too, just off the top of my head I can't think of them..... and you know there are gargish equivalents as well.

Woodland armor can be stealthed in, i know because i have a 4 piece suit enhanced with bloodwood on my stealth archer. So you do NOT need mage armor for woodland to be able to stealth. this is also having 120 stealth and 100 hiding.

The armor "weight" adds up to make stealthing more difficult. You could wear just the bone helmet and stealth just fine, but too much will block stealthing. Or, you could just take your skill to 120 and be fine.

Yep. Back in the day, it went Cloth < Leather < Studded < Ringmail < Chainmail < Plate < Bone in terms of AR. Bone Armor used to have more innate AR than Plate did, it just couldn't be crafted (so no GM Bone Armor that could be easily replaced). GM Plate gave slightly less AR than Bone Armor of Guarding. Bone Armor also had the benefit of requiring less STR to wear, didn't penalize DEX as much, and could even cast Reactive Armor (which acted like Attunement does now) while wearing it.
