Hi there Mesanna& crew.
Was talking to an old UO player today and mentioned the RTB that is set for May.... only thing was I couldnt give them a date!
Now I dont wish to make a hastle but can we pin it down so the rest of the gang here can spred the word to old and returning players?
I know its last minute but he really wanted to know to clear up some time to try the game again and well... I for once didnt have a exact bit of date to give him. (embarassed) :embarrassed:

Well thats great but a date that one can count on would be nice, a few weeks ahead of time would be apreciated.
This day and age many working people have to do life by a day/time keeper...
Last time we had RTB my friend didnt hear of it at all and by the time he did it had 1 day left.... so he didnt try.
I do hope the Dev set a date and publish it in the active media for old and new players see and come try the game.

Side note:
My son went on Steam*(unsure if i spelt it right) to see how the game was being recieved..... ran head long into alot of negative posts.
We were called TOO Carebear by the numbers that shocked me.
People who play UO have come to understand the outside world have no idea why we have insurance, repair deeds, low break points on items, this was just some of the negative points they made...
Nothing hurts UO worse. then bad press.
It was plain to see you wanted the game reverted to "Fel"rules ...hmm
Some of it sounded fermiliar..too fermiliar.
I wont point fingers, but I think it suxs that you would use our one chance to build back up the game to sabotage it.
Shame on you.
Be positive... our game life depends on new players trying UO.
Negitivity...
How do you think this will save the game?
It will turn them off and in the end could shut us down.
If you post on Steam* try to give others a good side of our game... there is vastly more good then not.
Making it sound like the game is a dud is not helpfull.

Beleave me the Fel days were not as great as you think... unless you were one of the leaches who enjoyed to torture, steal, or be so obnoxious to others.
I was there on more shards that most of you.
Life in UO back then had good points but there was elements of our own players who took acting out being hellions to an art form.
I didnt like Trammel at first, my main homes are in fel infact. But like others it took the need to go there to KEEP what I worked hard for.
Beleave me I have listened to lectures by alot of players of how the game went wrong and what should be done... I am not deaf kiddos.
We need more players to get the backing to do any changes to the game...
Our tiny Dev team is the hamsters in the wheel running to chase their tails doing all we need with so small a window of time...
and little support.. Broadsword opened up a window for the game to rebloom...
Let's help it along... ok?

Hopefully the devs will use those steam comments wisely to see where to take the game in the future so return to britannia would have the best chance.

If this is the one chance for a return to brit for the year (or 2) i think its a very bad time. the only opportune reasoning behind a rtb in the next month or so would be the current promotion its getting on steam. otherwise... its summer, (populations go down in summer) account management too bad a state, to many other recent games, and all the other normal mess.

Realistically, the best time for a RTB would be at the publish of virtue vrs vice.
Its the only new content from the devs this year (according to them) and it might be a reason for the 1000s of players who left UO because of the decline of pvp to come back to check it out.
(yes im confident in this number, of my 5 rl friends i started the game with 4 of them specifically left because of the state of pvp)

A return to brit should be a BIG thing. not a few people here and there who might log on for the hell of it. It should be promoted, it should be specifically timed when theres something to offer. some reason to comeback, and to stay.

Trammel came along many years ago.

If UO died tomorrow people would blame it on Trammel even though it came along many years ago.

This is what I was afraid of about UO being put on Steam -- the same people who left the game due to Trammel are way louder relative to their small numbers than are the greater number who left the game due to Everquest and related, more Trammel-esque games since. When they are louder in public, people easily will get the wrong impression. The rest of us are more apt to be playing the game than posting about it. Let alone airing dirty laundry in public.

People will dispute the numbers here, will suggest that no surely Fel actually is more popular and the devs are just dumb and prejudiced, but I've discussed in previous posts the numerous reasons I'm more likely correct than are my detractors.

I'll cite just two of those reasons now. One: Everquest Facebook likes, 58,000; UO Facebook likes, 25,000; Darkfall likes, 3,797 on one page about 6k on another (not sure which one is the "correct" one). The pattern should be clear. The aging, Trammel-esque game is by far the better-liked of the three among Facebook users (which is kind of a bit population), and the Fel-esque game the least-popular, and UO is square in the middle. There's another Darkfall Facebook page with like 5k. Even taking all 3 of those pages together it doesn't equal UO's likes. Two: If people preferred Felucca they would have stayed there. They didn't. They left as soon as they had the chance.

Against this, the opposition cites the dozens or (at most) hundreds of people on free shards; the dozens or so of people who post and definitively (if baselessly) assert that Trammel is bad; and, most powerfully, their ardent faith. No amount of fact can counter faith.

@Lady Storm to insinuate (your pointing fingers comment) that posters here on Stratics are bad mouthing UO on Steam for whatever purpose is BS. Top it off you have no proof. Please go to other sites that do talk about UO and have articles and look at the replies there. You get both good and bad replies. All games do so sorry to disappoint and you think UO is being picked on only.

This goes for both @Lady Storm and @GalenKnighthawke

Want to come in our GW2 guild vent and talk to our 100+ Ex UO players out of 1800+ guild mates worldwide and ask them why they don't play UO anymore? You may may be surprised by there answers.

It's not always about PvP . Oh we have hardcore WvW players and sPvP players counting me in both but GW2 system is set up differently. We have many that just enjoy the PvE.

You all ever think it's possible that people like content, new content and constant updates that players go to other games? How about constant communication from dev teams, better graphics, a change of pace ect ect? Maybe they just don't have time to invest in a sandbox game? Just maybe they just wanted to play another game? Tram and fel both have their pros and cons so its not one side or the other side fault. Some on these boards like to make it sound that way but it's far from the truth.

Many many reasons and not what you are thinking.

People are going to say good and negative things about games. They do have a right to voice their opinion. I have seen worse said about UO than here ever on Stratics on other sites. If life was all about 100% positive at full throttle I would think what a boring world we would live in. That is why we are all different and I am thankful for it.

Comparing Facebook likes and comparing UO to other games is ludicrous. UO is UO. It's not WoW, its not EQ, it's not GW2, it's not DF, its just UO. Different games and play-styles. UO is not meant for everybody and the same goes for other games. They may not be for everybody either.

I hope there is a date announced soon for RTB and I hope it is well received by ex players who want to return and see UO. Steam will renew some interest into the old ex players and help bring in some new.

sabotage of course that is what they want no new players in the game. Their afraid bringing new younger players into the game. why because.....
new players might be better Pvpers than them
new players might start a Pvpers guild and roll over the old Pvper guilds.
new players might take over the power scroll market.
lot of new players will be very young, and have better reflexes than most of us.
so yes I could see why they would sabotage our beloved game.
this is not towards the decent pvpers across this game.

I for one never heard of Steam... till Taylor posted it.
My son on the other hand knew of it but didnt frequent it.
I would not put it past some to use Steam to try to influence the Dev to consider going back to the "Classic" game set.
This being said.
Pvp has been dying out for the last 5 years..
It's never been about the game in this death.... on the contrary.
Many of the old Pvp'rs I have known quit due to growing out of the phase of death and mehiem.
One didnt quit, he changed the pvp char to a pvm character and now does Medusa regulary... (hehe he drops me off the bows, daggers, and staffs that he gives almost every day...today he gave me 6 bows 1 staff and 2 daggers!)

My point is the Dev and we the players need to get out to these people who read steam that our game is evolving.
It's not the old UO.
8 to 10 years ago when many of the distracters tried the game yes we were stagnant... and EQ, WoW, and Eve bit into the player base.
It was bound to happen.. Past dev teams did things that hurt the game and EA ..............well we all know their view.
16 years ago we were one of a very small handfull of online games when only 18% of households had a computer and were able to get on the internet.
Today there are litterly hundreds of thousands of games if not millions if you count box games that UO is contending with. Played on everything from cellphones, tablets, lappys , the good old home computer. ( yes some play at work but dont tell the boss, most times its now a no no.)
We also have less patience with the Dev..... admit it most of you are too use to instant gratification... Well coding and development of any game is not a picnic. Oh and hear you pancake about the bugs! When you push so hard they need to send out a half way working publish!
We all have yipped so dont take that better then thou routine.

Point is UO is a good game.
We need more players new and old so no matter when RtB starts we need to hear a date and time...
Also I would apreciate it if we all keep in mind that for every cut into the game as a whole is a player lost... yes talk can kill just as easy a a knife. You would be surprised how a new player listens to you and forms an opinion.

I think UO still hast the potential for a fulfilling pvp system. the basics have always been there. Trammel changed pvp but surely didnt eliminate it. PVPers left for many reasons, only a small fraction the creation of trammel. Many players on steam remember UO simply as a fulfilling game in regards to pvp.

Most the people today not happy with the state of pvp has nothing to do with trammel. I still have high hopes that the new system is implemented successfully. It would be a huge accomplishment from the devs and much needed breath of fresh air for a stagnant system.

I liked what you said, that UO is "evolving" which is an art everygame has to undertake to survive. Lets just hope what it evolves into still has the same heart of the game from '97. Adventure, Unlimited choices, and Danger at every turn.

I also liked what you said about the state of the game 10 years ago. I think we're in a similar state. PVP has devolved once again (factions kept it alive for a time) Content is again stale and nothing new planned (except the EM program which is the shining light of UO!)
There are once again Very good new games out, or to be released soon that are specifically targeting the UO playerbase, some have left and more will surely leave.

What exactly makes account management so difficult?
I've had zero issues navigating through the account page and canceling/renewing subscriptions for various accounts.

Zerbee i have some 47 accounts that when a card gets old or when the silly program wont continue reoccuring billing for my accounts I have to go in and reload my cc. The UO system shuts off your card after 3 accounts and then will not let you do more. It also puts your Cc on a suspicious activity report and shuts your use of it off and sends the bank into a tizzy when they auto send same report to bank about the same card! I have had to have my CC "whited out" 3 times and to tell you the truth I am fully sick of it. This also goes for the EA/origin Store.
