That's a lot to read. Too much for the simple minded! Can you sum it up in like 10 words for me, please?

It is several ideas with short descriptions to hopefully make playing a thief(pvp and pvm) more fun and acceptable. The hope is to create a intelligent discussion about possible changes to a forgotten part of the game. I hope you will be able to find a few minutes to read and reply.

This post addresses both PvM Thief's from production shards and PvP Thief's which are found on Siege Perilous and Mugen. So the pvp side would mostly be seen on those two servers but i do want to address our friends who are PvM and daily rare thief's as well.

A thief is a "dastardly" player..has no place getting worked on in candy land..

If anything a thief should be bound to fel..just like a murderer!

Let them steal scrolls off of champs/harrowers..spice up treasure chests in dungeons..

When the chest is opened you can't see item properties so u need to use the item ID skill..only visible to a thief..based off real skill is the tier of items you can get..at real 120 stealing 100 snooping, you have a slim chance at seeing a legendary artifact..once you attempt to steal from a chest/champ you have a 15 second delay before you can hit animal form and the normal delay for hiding..thieves are meant to be "sneaky" not coward llamas :)..just my humble 2¢

I hope you are just trolling, but anyway. Why should a PvM thief be constricted to just Fel? It's not like they harm you in any way and the ones that do are already there by choice. Also, do you really have that hard of a time defending against a thief at a champ that you need to destroy the main way to escape?

I know absolutely nothing about PvM stealing but I think it would be fun if the spawn was more random. Random timers, random locations. Why not a chance to find a chest out in the wild? Random deco spawning in towns or camps?

I agree it can be silly with town stealing (pvp). It's also kinda boring to never get chased. (Yes, yes I know, steal outside of town.) Either you stay blue and the target can't do anything or you get instawhacked cause an NPC calls for guards. My guess is that a lot of people would like to be able to retaliate and hunt the thief down. Going gray most of / all the time stealing a scroll would be a severe change from how it is now. With 120 stealing I go gray on 1 stone so rarely you could almost call it never.

Candy land should have no place in UO :p

It's about time to changes the damage Trammel made to UO. All facets should be for all playstyles. PvP as well as non PvP. Each char should choose a level of PvP going from no PvP at all -> PvP everywhere, something like 5 levels from:
1. No PvP at all
2. Duels in arenas. (Are included in the next levels)
3. PvP inside guild, alliances and wars but only outside town
4. PvP inside guild, alliances and wars including towns and can attack level 4-5 and be attacked of level 4-5 outside town.. Can attack level 5 everywhere. Attacking level 4-5 will make you grey to the one you attack for 1 hour and to other level 4-5 for 20 min.
5. Will be red all the time, can attack other level 5 everywhere, can attack level 4 outside town and in town if they are grey. Can be attacked of level 4 everywhere but level 4 will be grey to you and other level 5 for 20 min.

Stealing should be considered an attack but the time grey should be shorter and only show when on target or you drag statusbar

It's about time we bring UO back :)

Thank you very much for the explanations. I am not a native speaker and google translator sadly seems to play tricks on my mind when translating this, might take a day or more to understand.

No Trammel, no UO
Explain please
I did not say remove Trammel, I only changed it so the char could choose what ruleset that would effect him. A Trammel player could still choose to be 100% safe but yes he would see reds and thieves but he could choose level 1-3 and be safe for them.
A PvP minded player could choose level 3-5, depending of how much PvP he want

Yeah, but then I can't just play in not-Felucca to avoid the idiots who need to constantly show off their e-peens to anyone near enough to attack/brag about their latest fight. Even if I'm not involved in the fight itself, I still would have to be around it if they took it to where I was playing.

With PvP pretty much restricted to Fel-only, I can choose to not go there and bam, never have to be around people in the midst of it. Aside from when they don't shut up in General.

Maybe you would find out, it would not really changes anything as they already can go to Trammel on their blue. You will also find out, the kids will learn the hard way, if they can't hide in Trammel, if the choose level 4.
What you will see a much stronger community, that won't be splitted the way it is now. You will end up changing your view on some groups of players.
You may not believe me but you will see it if Devs listen to me and remove that stupid split.

The classic UO thief that is always referred to from back in the day was nothing more then a pure griefer. It was not a class or a play style. It was simply the purest form of unchecked griefing that was ever allowed in the game.
And that is why over time the devs made specific changes to correct it.
It is not hard to understand that the old thief template/rules created a one-sided, no win situation for anyone other than the thief. That is by definition griefing.
Naked thieves running through town or out on the roads doing nothing more than mashing a one or two key macro took absolutely everything from you without any skill or possible form of retribution. They were naked so death was not a punishment.

If you need anymore proof that people only played the classic thief for griefing purposes look no further than Champ spawns or Doom. When the devs fixed the griefing aspects of stealing they purposely introduced extremely valuable stealables into the game as compensation. Some of the wealthiest players ever in UO got so by stealing from Doom.
But the old school thieves wanted nothing to do with it because it was no longer griefing. It was simply a way to make gigantic amounts of gold by stealing lol.

The OP mentions in one of his posts that he wants to make stealing more fun. What exactly does that mean? Stealing valuable items from Doom or scrolls from Champ spawns to make huge amounts of gold is not fun?
I guess his idea of fun is unchecked stealing from fellow players with no possibility of retribution?
Because there is no retribution when death is not a penalty or downside.

I have a lot good and fun memories from interacting with thieves, even when a pair of them once got my house key. That was back where you could not changes the lock and you could not lock down items.
My and my sons killed them several times but the key was never on the one we killed. After a few hours, I gave up, told them I did not mind sharing my house with them but not my items.
They moved in and was living in my house for a month, until they got their own house. My floor was filled with filled with stolen items but they did leave my stuff in peace.
It was a fun month and they told all other thieves to leave me alone.

Sometimes people gives up to easy and call thieves and PK's for griefers, sometimes it only take a little RP to get along with them or at least some respect for their play style

Stealing is an act of aggression against another player, period. And like any other act of aggression towards another player, if it takes place in a guard zone - then the guards should be able to be called to deal with it.
And every steal, no matter how high your stealing is, should flag you grey because of that act of aggression! If you run a thief, then you need to be ready to run...

Not every theft is as noticeable as stabbing a dude in the face.
