I have tried contacting many GMS/DEVS and Mesanna for the past two years. I have one question to ask and I hope that I can raise awareness to the people up top through this stratics forum. My question is: Why do I go stat when a blue kills me? This has been a bug since the faction changes of 2012. I'm tired of the "oh factions is so bugged we're going to replace it anyways in a couple months, which has been said for the past year and a half. I don't understand why faction players go stat when blues kill them. It shouldn't happen. It's a bug. It needs fixed. GREAT, if chaos and order are going to replace factions, but just fix this bug for the time being! It's my only request in 14 years of playing. I would assume it's so simple to fix too. Just eliminate the assist calculations for distributing points. That is where the bug is because it thinks that the faction that attacked you 20 minutes ago sitting afk in luna was helping 20 minutes later when you died to blues. Please fix this

Yes, it is a bug that should have been fixed, however, in the big picture which is what the developers see, it would be inefficient to fix something that is going to be deleted from the game anyways.

Yes Norrington, but they could have fixed it 5 months ago and everyone could have been pvping 5 months in a fixed setting instead of a bugged one. It's sort of like you buy a game, but it has a major flaw, but the designers said don't worry, you play the bugged game and we'll sell the 2nd version of the game 1 year later.

I am not so sure that I'd call it a bug... after all - Faction members do have the advantage of some better armor pieces with Faction Armor - shouldn't there be an off-setting negative - like stat loss if you die to a non-faction member?

Sadly this change was part of the whole fix to factions that promptly drove people to other games in a more efficient way than any other "fix" Messana has managed to give the game. Sadly after this "fix" it was left to fester and annoy people for 2 years with nothing said above "we are aware of the issue and have a grand plan". Pure fail.

@Bleak ty for the update and @Tazar stay in trammie land factions are factions a random blue should not put you in stat
Ummm.... I play Siege where we have no trammel... and I am in Factions... and I still think if you have better armor abilities and die to some poor old trammie blue that you should have a penalty. Nice try though...

you would be wise to send communications to the dev's if you have a good idea on how the new faction system should be designed.

your comments as an admin on these boards are perplexing as it clearly prompted a snarky reply which I believe is what you set out to happen when you posted.

I doubt it's going to get fixed at this point, Especially now that there was mention of a prototype Virtue/Vice coming.

There already is a negative to factions. You go stat when you die to a faction member.

What's happening here is faction-playerX does a little damage and runs off. Minutes and I mean minutes later if you happen to die to non faction players you go stat loss. I've even seen my journal showing a loss of faction points to the nonfaction player.

@Bleak : I hope the fix doesn't go back to the days where you could trap-box yourself to death avoiding stat. PS: Can you shorten the stat timer down some too? Pretty please?

Every faction red at the gate is using more powerful faction gear to gank and kill faction and non faction players alike.
Because of this blues contributing to stat loss is correct and no issue at all imo.
I get such a kick out of faction players whining when non faction players enter into their fights at the gate.
It's ok that 5 minutes earlier when no other faction players were around though that those same whiners were fielding and jumping on everybody that ran past. Faction players can field and gank and pk non faction players all day and that's cool though lol.
Bottom line is that factions has not been played correctly or as intended for years. And that is the fault of the players themselves, not the devs.

Funny too that the OP stated that this is his only request of 14 years cause it was not long ago that he ranted for thieves to be granted more powerful random stealing. He begged for weeks on that one cuz he was mad his thief without snooping was blindly trying to grab insured items lmao.
Ohh and his pvp taming requests were also quite amusing.

They never gave a timeline or estimate when the VV would be available only that it was a concept. For all we know it could have a release date of fall this year. A hotfix to a broken system might help keep a few players from jumping ship!

Probably because its Not being currently worked on. its only an idea. i wouldnt expect to see it for at least a year. Vendor search was well tested and is coming along, however when a simple option was put into our current vendors (not even the entire system) there was a really really bad bug. so developement time, plus at least 3 - 6 months of testing to work out bugs.... i wouldnt expect the virtue vice thing anytime soon.

They're fixing Stat-loss because it's somehow going to be used in V/V I'm sure.... I wonder if they scrapped the idea of the "Wounded" debuff ?

Remember that thing called Risk V Reward. The only "reward" to factions currently, is the free artifacts (which isnt something you have to "earn" either). The Risk is the open aggression towards anyone else in the system, and the very obvious danger of stat loss. There are plenty of people who could use the gear but dont want to take the risks associated with joining factions.

Silver = insanely easy to obtain = free artifacts

They shouldn't even be in the game to begin with, but they are essentially "free" compared to what you have to do to obtain regular artifacts.

Of course, without the artifacts, factions would have zero rewards to counter the increased risk. Hopefully V/V fixes those problems.

Lol, I gain enough silver from regular pvp to pay for the artifacts themselves. If you dont actively pvp, you can just go farm monsters for it, with little required effort.

The problem is factions changed directly after the publish.
This isn't really about a blue getting a kill shot and putting you in stat, even though it is happening its no the real problem.
First of all I would like to say I play factions and know several people who do.

The real problem is as long as a factioner has damaged you, if you are killed, you will go stat.
Meaning if a factioner dismounts you at the gate and you are blue ganked you go stat.
Meaning any amount of calculated damage in the total being done by a factioner equals stat.

I would have thought the 10 non faction reds running with the 1 faction red would have been obvious to their intent. But apparently not.

I would also like to add I expect this pretty simple change (as you were the ones to have changed it to begin with) should increase population and pvp respectively.

So you go around pvping, kill a group of SL and get 800 silver. Sorry but that is not enough to buy any "over powered" faction artifacts. You keep saying there is no effort, to go farm silver, it is very time consuming and not everyone has a sampire to just sit there.

I have read that a couple of people said that faction players should go stat due to us having more powerful items and that's fair. I have to fully disagree with that. I personally don't use ANY faction artifacts anymore. Reforging allows you to make the EQUIVALENT of a suit a faction person can make. Faction arties make suits easier but then it does not allow for non faction people to wear the designed suits. But essentially, a person using faction arties and one using no faction arties CAN STILL achieve the BEST suit in the game with the shame loot and reforging gear out there. So maybe back in the day it might have been fair but not anymore. The reason I play factions is to stat players. That is the whole reason I play UO is to stat someone and force them out of the fight. Stat is aggravating but it's a great feeling to put someone in stat.
Anyone my whole point is the faction arties are pretty much pointless and don't make suits OP with the new gear in UO today.
And thank you 500000x to Bleak for letting us all aware that this bug will be finally fixed in the next update :) Thanks

I've never heard anyone complain about reforging imo, I've spent 300-400 mil in each suit I make and have the best mods and increases a mage suit could have in all the suits I ever make .

We are actively working on a TC release of what we pitched as V/V (with changes to the original idea based on feedback) a while back and hope to have something playable in the coming months.

One time in the past my factionized lockpicker was working on his remove traps skill on a golden chest in a store in Britain/Trammel - failed, died and earned stat loss.
This was annoying, since I could not even pick a lock any more without cracking the key.

I also want to dispel the theory that stat loss takes one out of a fight. before the nerf, we had plenty of harry faction fights on chessy, particularly against LD when they played there in force and I'm here to tell you there was plenty of stat loss on both sides in those fights and neither side "SAT OUT". In fact it was a badge of honor for both sides to fight through the stat loss as it employed learning how to be effective during those 20 minutes and being able to help your team.

to me it was some of the best PVP'ng experiences I had in UO.

to me it was some of the best PVP'ng experiences I had in UO.
I think this makes for some very exciting game play and adds a lot of weight to being able to effectively participate in combat whilst dealing with the crutch of less than max efficiency. As it stands now we are looking at keeping stat loss as it works currently and moving from there. One point that was brought up with the "wounded" debuff that a boost to incoming damage without effecting skills would still allow those who were "wounded" to stay in the back and heal with maximum efficiency - which is not in the spirit of being wounded from battle. The intent is not to completely remove you from the fight, but at least provide some penalty for death since you can insta rez with all your gear. The goal is to keep matches around 20 minutes in length or until the match score has been reached, with short cool downs around 5 minutes in between each fight. If the population continues to support a battle, they will keep on going. We want fights to be easy in and fast paced so whether you have an hour to play or 5 hours to play on any given night you can get some PvP action.

Beginning with its 2 sided, you really are going to take it from 4 sides to 2? How is that supposed to do anything but provide a crutch for those being picked on?
How can you not expect everyone who is getting beat on one side to just not hop the fence like they already do?
You intent is to put these fights in the middle of no where, if that area is too small everyone will be playing mages, if too large no mages will EVER show, and lets face it you have no intention
of providing a base so the mere idea of a mage is probably long past.
To take it further your going to reward these people with items, as if those getting picked on wont be getting all their points at 3 am and not really be playing it as intended anyways.

I realize the team wishes to fix pvp but this isn't it. People will simply circumvent the system for the largest reward.

And if you think people will be entertained chasing stealthers all day I encourage you to visit Siege where this is the case.
Please take note of how the population is even after you offered EVERY OTHER SHARD PERSON A CHANCE TO PLACE A HOUSE THERE.

I seriously encourage you to think hard before you remove factions, unless your looking to remove another large segment of the population.
We warned you last time and you ignored us, that's fine, but if you think this will fix that, you are mistaken.

to early for such an email. you don't even have the slightest clue as to how the system will work yet your already peeing in the cherios. Of course learning how to square root around the game mechanics to achieve the desired result is always a concern and something this playerbase does extremely well you would be sure to think that the Dev's understand this and will put a system in place that addresses that.

factions in its most current form however does not constitute a "large section of the playing base" sad to inform u.

There is an easy enough solution for most things just let people kill people on their own team without penalty.
Except murder counts give all the murder counts you desire.
If the system becomes a game of hiding in the most recent faction to avoid dying then how much participation do you think you will get?

You need to calm yourself down, sheesh. Lets wait to see what they have cooked up for us to test on TC. Obviously they are taking feedback (the wounded debuff idea being scrapped is proof of that).
