So I have a way old character that I started to train up as a stealth lockpicker many years ago..
The idea was to get a guy that could sneak around to the higher level dungeon chests and pick the locks and take the loot.
Somebody mentioned that the dungeon chests are all borked now.. is this true?

Are there new chests in the new dungeons such as Doom or Blackthorns?
I tried to find some current info on lootable chests but came up empty.

There are lootable chests in the revamped Exodus dungeon and in the Wreck of the Ararat area - but you will need detect hiding to find them. No chests in Doom or Blackthorns that I know of.

The locked barrels that are all stacked up in level 3 Shame (opposite the back-side of where the evil mages are) definately had the upgraded loot when they first implemented it.

What is your skill level? If under 95 you can gain on crates in lockpicking training houses. I know this doesn't address your question but it's a tangent.

There is 1 chest that spawns randomly down in Blackthorn's in the maze part. And Wrong Dungeon has those chests that can spawn "assassin" weapons, forget how those work or what they do for us. And doing the exodus "hidden" chests will keep you forever stocked in imbuing essences, smoke bombs and EASY way to gather keys to do Exodus himself.

Currently I have 20 boxes I had someone make.. I lay the all on the ground in a line.. I lock them all.. then I go down and pick them all.. then I relock them all.. rinse and repeat.. not the most exciting way to do it I'm sure..

By "hidden chests" you mean you need Detect to see em? cause I'm not sure I can fold another skill onto this guy he's also learning Cartography andstuff.. but for imbung stuff I could remake him I guess.

Despise chests in level 1 are still all there, both facets. There are boxes in the hidden room in the training tower in Brit, both facets, with varying skill levels. Don't forget Vesper bank too.
At 68 you might even still gain from town shop chests. The empty room just inside Hythloth is also a good low-level training spot

Yes, you do have to have detect to find these chests. The only imbuing items these have are essences, but that's enough for me to do them often.

lol.. not for essences.. I get those just from looting things that attacked me for no reason!

What shard are you on? I have a lockpicking training room on Baja and I know there are other shards that use to have them. If you post an inquiry here I bet you'll get a response. Good luck!

THB use to have picking houses on all shards.
not sure if they are still around.

what ya need is one chest from a tinker with 40, 60, 80 and GM. (you wont need the 40)
then just lock it and pick it over and over.
so work on the 60 till your at like 70.
then work on the 80 chest till your at 90.
then at 90 move on to the GM made one.
the last 5 points need to be GGS or done on level 5 chests.

the anti maco thing was pulled out years ago so you only need 1 chest at each level.
it only takes about 4k in iron to make a new tinker and get up to 80 skill.
stopping at 40, 60, 80 to make a lock box and a trap box then keeping those in your house forever in case ya need them are well worth the 4k iron and hour spent to train it.
then if you want you can work up detect hidden on the trap boxes.

Go to Yew crypts the north and south have chests you can pick to gm... the ygive gold gems and junk you can smelt.. But you will gain best in the north room, 3 chests you will gain off.
Best off they respawn quickly ..

You understand that anything you lockpick open is trapped and using remove trap, telekinesis or just opening the chest/box reveal your char. I put ninja on mine stealth lockpicker for smoke bombs and animal form to run.

Ludes, if you're doing this on Siege, I have a full set of lockpick training boxes at my crafter's house just outside Zento and can re-access you there if you want. I've also got a full set of training boxes or almost full sets, some just missing the 90- or 100-tinker-skill boxes, on a few shards. Nothing on Catskills though....

Maybe this will bumped to a different forum, but the subject of training lockpicking has been raised here. I trained up GM lockpicking twice six or seven years ago and remember using treasure chests that I got from paragons to gain to 95, then discorded back down with satyrs to reach GM trying to open a chest.I found a chest I couldn't open but gave me gains trying, then switched to a higher level chest when that one opened. Unfortunately, I can't remember the details - but I do remember it was faster than unlocking and locking boxes. Does anybody have anything to add on this method?

On which shard do you play?
My training strategy for Lockpicking was usually to do the chests in Vesper Banks and Trinsic Bank (Felucca only) and from a certain level also Dungeon chests from a runebook. This gave gold, items and skill gains.
You also need to remove traps - either by Magery or with the skill Remove Traps, since all dungeon chests are trapped (the static chests were triple trapped, not sure, if this is still the case).

This was a Great tip!.. all different levels of chest spawn here and running back and forth kept the boredom down.. plus you can always run upstairs and play with the younger undead that live there.

Yeah take as many locked boxes as you can to the twisted wield. Have a satyr discord you then hide/break aggro. Stay close to the satyr and you will stay discorded. Didn't take me long, certainly less than a day with that method+soa's. But remember to bring boxes that are equivalent to your DISCOED skill. I think at 95 it dropped me to 60ish. Been a while though

When did these changes go in? Probably Many years ago?
I used to have 200 gm tinkered boxes that would get me to 95 picking. The rest was dungeon picking till gm.

I still don't know why anybody would want to unlock and relock and unlock and relock and unlock and relock boxes when you can gain off paragon chests by just clicking on them - so much easier and faster

I had a script in uoa that would pick all 200 boxes and a 2nd script that would re-lock all of the boxes. Each script would do all 200 boxes in under 2 minutes.
Gains were massive.
There were no paragons in the game at that time..........
Did you seriously think any player would do that manually?

I have a few paragon chest but they don't give gains.. just a waste of lockpicks.. maybe I need higher skill to do those.

And the Satyr area.. well my treasure hunter dies pretty quick there.. lol. started him out as an archer but decided to switch him to a mage.. he's kinda in the middle now ... not that good at either.

It's been a long time, but my notes say I gained on a paragon cyclops chest from around 70 to about 90, then swiched to a paragon titan chest around 90 when the cyclops chest opened. My dexxer got the chests at that titan temple near Honesty. You need to have the right level chest to match your skill. Of course there are all kinds of paragon chests options in Ilsh. I used a lot of lockpicks, but those are cheap to make. But if, like the Monk, you have a script for locking and unlocking the tinker chests, that sounds fine. At 95 , after you target the satyr and get him to discord you, you have to run out of there to break the aggro and then back in and stay near him. I suppose you already know the theory of it all. I died occasionally doing it but got the hang of it.
